  1. funny DABA.

@Twinky- when I searched the site for your printer and Win8 64bit it came up with the same driver. But underneath i is a link "No Windows 8 Driver?" That also shows on the 32 bit search though so I think it is always present even when it shows a driver for you, but it is confusing to see it (I saw that link first and almost thought it meant there was not a driver)

I would give it a try. If it will not work I would think it would tell you when you try to install it. HP does anyway.

  2. Just got myself a new laptop which runs Windows 8 (an interesting (?) and amusing new development for those of you who haven't yet had the pleasure). It's definitely nothing like Win7 or XP or anything else.

    I also have an Epsom DX4050 all-in-one printer/scanner.

And wojja know, there doesn't seem to be a Win8 driver, or at least I can't find one online.

Any of you computer geek types got any ideas?

Twinky, I am not sure if your spelling of Epson with an M instead of N was a typo or the reason for your problem, but Epson's site seems to show a Win8 driver for that machine. It may not be full featured, but it works on Win8 32 bit according to the site- http://esupport.epson-europe.com/FileDetails.aspx?lng=en-GB&data=lkuCfcvA9cw77whFcRdwis4JOQH9mtNd&id=375890

  3. It is my understanding that there will be a hearing, and provided he has not incurred blackmarks during his incarceration it is likely he will be released on parole followed by supervised probation. I cannot see the posts on the info site set up by the victims and have not found it on the official court docket yet, but I see the admin on that site and others have chattered about it.

  4. you know there is a forum for birthdays and anniversaries.

hmm there is? I thought Open was where birthdays are most commonly celebrated and greeted.. I think that is where we are ;) Is there a special place I have not noticed in all these years?

Oh, Bean was talking about the thread down in Archives. I always thought that was just stored threads from long ago (seeing as it says Archive) I didn't know anyone ever posted new stuff in there. Most new birthday threads are found here in Open.

And if Trefor stops in here- Happy Birthday dude!

  5. LOL, true story from yesterday that immediately reminded me of this thread.

I was in a golf tournament Saturday, a fund raiser for a friend's personal top cause. One of the other teams was made up of one of my longtime business customers and his friends. Over the last 20 years, we of course have known each other's political leanings. He is equally as strident in his views as I am in mine from the other side of the spectrum. Before the tournament, we got into a rather heated discussion and basically told the other they needed to google some things and learn the "truth". We attracted some concerned attention from others, most of whom knew nothing about either of us.

After the tournament was over, dinner was being served. It was funny to see the reaction of those who had been concerned earlier when my business friend and I gravitated to the same table to eat together. I am certain they wondered if the earlier episode would be repeated. We both were all laughs and fun now, and even when he jabbed and I jabbed back, everyone at our table laughed. My business friend is hard of hearing and I made some little comment like

HAP- "Brian has to wear headphones so he can hear the talking heads on the only news channel he watches"

He made a similar comment about

Brian- "HAP's cable service must have an internal block that prevents him from watching my channel"

Anyway, as we finished up dinner and the awards, and were departing, Brian shouts across the room to me,

"Hey HAP, can you get that bid together this week? I really want you to get going on the remodel"
It just goes to show, even though we each despise the political views of the other, we fully respect each other and are happy to do business together.
  6. An interesting question, Linda.

Probably 25% or more of my incoming FB newsfeed from friends is politically oriented, and I would guess about 40% of my own posts this time of the season. I can only think of one person who deleted me, and I really did not know her. We met on one of the game apps.

I have numerous FB friends of all political persuasions, and mostly we stay out of each others hair and off each others status updates when we heartily disagree and only goodnaturedly jab at each other there. Some of my FB friends I knew in high school or before and some are business contacts. When we see each other face to face, we can talk amicably about politics or work or the weather or fires or whatever. We just (wisely I think) choose not to make a pubic ruckus on a Facebook page.

I do control it a little bit by adjusting who gets to see some of my posts. When I am being snarky or sharing a particularly mischievous political post I adjust the setting to "Friends except Acquaintances.". Those who I know are vehemently of the other political persuasion, and most my vague business contacts are in the Acquaintance list. I may find the post humorous, and so will most my real life close friends, but I am not going to change anyone's mind by being snarky in a post on FB, so why tick them off? I post them (and read others) because those who see them find them funny and we share a laugh.

All that said, I enjoy the discussions and we often have some stridently oppositional, but respectful, back and forth with each other as I participate on many posts nightly with my other FB friends. The discussions are much more respectful than I previously experienced in the old days here. I like it like that.

  7. Why does nobody ever ask about the band Breakthrough, which released at least one album by the name of "A Thought Away" in 1985 through Higher Ground Music. Their address at the time was in Canoga Park, CA.

I have the cassette. I also have the Takit album but it is tucked away at this time and I cannot access it. I believe Socks however.

  8. Prayers and good thoughts would be much appreciated for those affected by the monster fire burning uncontrolled within 2 miles of Fort Collins Colorado. It grew from 200 acres Saturday morning to over 37,000 Monday morning. over 2500 evacuations have gone out. At this time there have been over 100 structures lost (houses, garages and outbuildings. My son is located within 2 miles of the evacuation zone, and is in no danger other than the ash and smoke from it.

Please think about the awesome fire crews, the residents of the area and their animals. So far there is only one person missing, and only minor injuries to fire personnel, but the area is tinder dry with little or no rain in sight. The flames rise 300 feet in the area and the fire is crowning from tree to tree at the rate of 1 mile per hour. It is in rugged terrain and hard to fight.

The Type 1 federal management team has now taken control, but frankly, the first responders did all that anyone could have done. Kudos to them for risks they took and job they have done especially getting everyone out. There are thousands of people and animals displaced by this, many of whom have lost everything they could not grab on the way out the door.

  9. Paw explained it a little more. Joe is second in line for this set of lungs. He is prepped as if he will get them, but a final decision has not been made. If the first in line is unable to go through the operation then Joe is ready to go.

Edit- apparently the first patient was able to go through with the operation, Paw's brother will have to wait for another set. :(

  10. Please keep Paw's brother Joe and his family in your prayers. He was finally admitted to the hospital for his long awaited lung transplant. There is a thread here that shows how long this has been awaited:

prayers, positive thoughts, and good vibes for Joe and the family.

  11. I like the ads and sometimes I've wished GS would put the bucket out for a donation once or twice a year just to pay the rent and allow participants the kind of pride of ownership that would permit some serious abuse. :biglaugh: Just kidding, but it wouldn't be a bad idea, really. Course I haven't ponied up any dinero's on my own so yeah. You can see where that's going.

hey socks- I will just point you to this page. check out the right side- http://www.greasespotcafe.com/main2/ :eusa_clap:

  12. even wierwille's desk and leather chair from pfal filming were RETURNED

to a furniture company after the 1967 filming

I do remember seeing that film, maybe at AC72 at HQ? Not sure really.

But when you mentioned the furniture from the PFAL filming was returned, I had to laugh. I remember the Branch I ran had finally gotten a video class together around 1974. The problem was all I had was a 15 inch black and white TV. The limb's unit was already in use up in the big city or something. I was told to go buy a TV, use it and then return it. I felt slimy when I took it back. They charged a 20% restock fee, which I took out of the ABS from the class. I don't think God ever was bothered by the loss of the ABS. He likely was none too pleased about the theft from the TV store though.

We did get to watch the Superbowl that year in style however.

  13. I was ministered to by a horse...sort of by "laying on of hooves"

Before being involved with TWI I was shot in the foot with a small handgun being shown to me by a careless friend. The bullet cracked one toe, which healed a bit crooked. This caused the toe to rub on the adjacent one, and often caused a painful sore unless I padded it with a bandaid. (Have you ever tried to keep a bandaid on a sweaty toe?) This was a constant irritation for some 10 years or so.

Then in the early 80s, I went up to Gunnison to help with a rodeo. I needed to ask R* a question, while she was perched on her barrel horse getting ready to led the Grand Entry Parade. As we were talking, someone opened the gate to the arena, and her horse, ever at the ready to run the barrels, reared up to turn and bolt through the gate. R* pulled back on him and he came down hard, you guessed it, right smack on my foot, The same toe as before.

It hurt terribly, and I limped around for several days with that same painful toe until it finally got better. It has now been over 30 years and I have never again had a sore on that toe. Praise be to "Snippy" who held my toe in the hollow of his hooves that day.
