It was a cold night. There was a well lit tree sparkling behind large windows. We trouped up the stairs to this front door real quiet and positioned our selfs from the top landing and down the stairs. The song leader held his hands up and we hmmmmmmed together and began the lyrics. The Charleston Green with a northern winter wreathed door opened. A young lady embracing a baby, a young man; another couple of grandparent stature stood in the opening with wonderfull smiles 'pon their faces and huddled close. The young lady with the baby had tears a mirror to her eyes. She blinked with a smile and released a tear 'pon each cheek which dropped onto the babe cradled in her arms. The babe was awake and seemed quite content. When the lyrics were done, our audience lightly appluaded. The young lady handed the baby to the young man and smoothed her hands over each eye and said: ..."Thank you so very much for that song. We (she gestured to the young man with the quite content awake babe) have just moved here from Maine and that was my Grandfather's favorite Christmas Carol..." We all had a few bat the chat and sang em one more, bid good night, and sang on down the stairs. That is a cherished memory I have remembered every Christmas since then. Abigail, I remember my kindergarten years. I don't remember the name of the school, but I can write my Mom and have that name. But I do remember specific experiences, such as the Collie, the gate, the fence, the smell of the room, THE PLAY GROUND!!! Oh yes indeedy! That child was performing his natural gig and should not be reprimanded because of his imagination to play, to be curious, to laugh and have fun. Maybe, just maybe, this child planned to stay behind a few minutes an opportunity access his playground. But that would be rather ingenious to out wit his teacher at such a young age. I do think that teacher should be the one sent to the principal's office rather than the child for whom the teacher was responsible.
