  1. Ham were you Corps and WOW or just WOW.... and did you eat Baloney and peanut butter sandwiches too??? Ahh the glory days of WOW.
  2. IT wasn't even just them I mean they weren't the only ones speaking out with doctrine that was counter to Weirwille that 79 ROA was rife with talk among the Corps there about who believed what and some very very different studies... One was about Christ having sex with Mary and another person was talking about Christ having kids... I didn't pay too close of attention at the time but I know there was a lot of argument about some of the stuff.. IT is interesting to me that I didn't hear the same stuff in 80 but that could be becasue I was too busy as I had just finished my WOW year. They had us going from meeting to meeting for ROA that year.
  3. EEEK I am sorry!!!! I didn't mean to start a flame war I really just wanted scriptures on the issue. IT is for me and I guess for a lot of people a very touchy and confusing subject. I have a nephew who has recently come out of the closet, I have freinds who are gay... it is something I have long wondered about and I find the whole turn people away teaching to be kind of counter to what Christ's life exemplified. and yet there is the Sodom and Gamora story too and the whole God called MAn and Woman to be together.
  4. Our first location for WOW had no believers there we foot the cost of the refreshments for the class... We all pitched in.. and come to think of it One of the guys got chairs from a funeral home... Was that on this thread???
  5. Twinky... My recollection from my limited time and remember I was out west we didn't have teh same level of contact with head quarters as those in the east.. but in 79 after I finished PFAL i went to a way gathering at Camp Gunnison I think it was in July any way VPW was heavily promoting seperating from your family if they were not in the ministry... telling everyone there to avoid their family and seperate from them and Shun them.(I don't ythink he called it shunning but it was what he taught about that day) Also I know a month later when I went to ROA and was on the Maintenance crew I heard about the 0 corps... but there were also lots of rumors flying that year(among the corps there) about who was being booted out and to not talk to them I don't remember it being called Mark and Avoid at that point but I was pretty much wrapped up in my own issues with going WOW. And I do know that at ROA 81 or 82 Sorry My MEmory is a bit foggy on the exact one but I believe it was 82 IT was called Mark and Avoid as they were applying it to a Corp man and his wife who left supposedly because he was an alcoholic. (The IRony about this does not escape me either now..) I do know that by 82 out west the practice was starting to trickle down to the Twig level... We had more Corps then as all of the 9the Corps was out on the field and 8th so perhaps by din't of them bringing it out with them it just made itself evident at twigs. always the two scriptures mentioned above were used in conjunction with teh implement of it. I also have no doubt that when we left in early 83 (Husband and I) we were labeled Mark and Avoid. Although I am not sure what reason they gave fore it but I am sure it was interesting.
  6. Now then can't we all pull up a cup of coffee and move on to a new subject. holds out chocolate cookies as a peace offering.

  8. Thanks Geisha, I listened to it once and will do so again...Interesting Speaker. And very logical.
  9. Hmmm I suspect mike the organist that you have the best of intentions... and i have heard these exact words from other people who said it to me .. Not about TWI because I came out of that relatively unscathed but I was abused as a child and I can not tell you how many times I have heard those exact words from well meaning Christians... WHo have never been in an abusive relationship or organization. they also like to tack on the forget it part too...(you know forgive and forget) really though I don't think God ever told me to forget about it... and forgiving some one evil is something you do after you forgive your self and that doesn't happen until the evil is out in the open and the only way to do that is to talk about it until it is no longer weighing so heavy on your heart that it rips you apart inside. Well from one new comer to a long time lurker welcome and thanks for the advice but people are here for a lot of different reasons.. soemtimes to find old friends and sometimes to warn others and sometimes to find someone to talk to who had the same experience to see that they weren't alone and to make sense of it all and find comfort. Don't be too judgmental.. as they say... until you have walked in another's shoes.

And that is the real key isn't it. Want to know what some thing really is about follow the money!
  16. I have found that I really try to consider each thing before I buy it... Do I really need this Do I just want it Why and how well made is it. also I am doing my own personal boycott of Chinese goods some chinese worker was carying on on line about how many widgets did I a fat american need in my kitchen that he had to make... I decided any widget I needed could come from some where else. Not that I buy much anymore but still.. IT made me realize how much junk actually gets bought over here from the dollar stor etc, and how junky it is.. and why are we buying it??? Just because it is there??? just becasue some one else has one?
  17. Thank You for that story Wordwolf it really gets to the heart of what everyone was trying to say. :)

Good Grief the more I read here the more happy I am that we left..when we did.. We missed so much of this stuff it is funny though now that you are talking about the chairs it reminded me that our chairs for the PFAL class I took were from the local funeral home. HMMMMM.. THey hadn't started teh car thing yet when I was WOW but I remember when we were doing a Christmas event(Not as a WOW) some one was supposed to get flowers and got repremanded and their suggestions were funerla homes and tree lots for chopped off greens, One of the things i remember Most about TWI was the push for uter and complete perfection... ANd the free labor.. Especially since I was the free labor a lot of the time Don't get me wrong I freely volunteered myself not for a blessing but because I felt it was my duty to God,,, I know a sucker is born every minute but hey those suckers have to come from some where Right??
  19. Okay sadly missing my Tomatoes now LOL I love that Video I added it to my My Space.

HAmmy when and where were you at ... If you don't mind my asking and I am feeling like we had some luxury... well we didn't have recycled coffee... ever and no styrofoam and we met at peoples homes... and the one big even I helped organize was a Thanksgiving afair and it was at a grainge hall nad we had a blast,, II do know though that all refreshments ansd set up was done by everyone in the twigs, I am feeling like a lucky Dog right now!
  22. Either way coming or not doesn't it say in the word that no man shall know when that day is to be and if any ones says they do they are a liar. (or am I just spouting Weirwille words???) you see how much I study the word now.
  23. White Dove... I think the issue for many people who went WOW to serve God is that They feel in hind sight taken advantage of. and it seems obvious to me at least that what was said and what Headquarters was putting out in print were two different things. I suspect differeent sides of the country had different stuff going on also and depending on who your limb leader was, and not to mention when you were affiliated. I feel like for the most part my time in TWI was wonderful. but I was also the first person to walk away from something I didn't think was right... Not every one was able to do this. I spent my time in TWI under two limb leaders.. KH in Montana, And DA in Idaho. Both were what I would consider upstanding men of God. They really strived to walk acording to the word but they also tried to stay with in the bounds that Head Quarters told them to. Both were gracious and both really cared what happened to their twigs and WOW's. Does that mean that everything went smooth... No Also I think if you have never been a WOW you may not know what teh rules of the game for us were. and It has been 30 years for me but I took my WOW year very very seriously, I tried to abide by the rules and I wanted to grow spiritually. that is why I went. 1 you were to only work 20 hours a week. 2 you were to be in bed by 12 PM and up by 7AM 3 You were to hold fellowship(twig) in your home 4 You were to live with your WOW family. 5. You were to run PFAL classes when you had the ful measure of students. (I think at first it was 7 but like I said it has been a while) 6 you were supposed to dedicate your one year on the field to God and everything in your life was to be about God. 7 You were supposed to spend at least one hour a day in prayer and study of the word. 8 you were supposed to go witnessing every day. Any one remember more of these those meant the most to me that is why I remember them. I Had a very long difficult and fulfilling year. I learned a lot and I feel my year was not wasted but I also recognize now some of the shortcomings of the ministry. I am not angry about it. I chose to be there and was fortunate to have lived out west so my interaction with some of the problems others faced was minimized. I am not sure where you were when you were involved with the way but you may have been like me very fortunate to have lived where they leadership was not following the letter of the law from headquarters. All that said... I saw things while I was at head quarters that gave me pause and no amount of what was written as the rules changes some of the things that I saw VPW do. They were wrong and not the kind of things a Man of God should do. I questioned a couple of Corps people and they thought what ever VP did was okay. And I am not talking about any of the sex stuff. I am talking about how he treated believers and corps and if you said anything about it you were shot down and that was back in the late 70's early 80's.
  24. Well slugs are a big problem too... We have chickens so they keep them at bay... but a neat trick you can use to get rid of snails and slugs is to put down gorilla hair ... which isn't really gorilla hair but shredded red wood bark... it get's rid of them immediately. I guess they hate it or can't crawl on it.. but they will be gone no where to be seen again.
