Ok, found the previous discussion on Dungeons & Dragons. Supposedly, the twi legend was that the game was "made by one of the Corps to gain better understanding of the spiritual world- then the idea was stolen." Zixar gave the following information in reply: Blackmoor was a famous supplement for the 1st edition D&D. So, Dave Arneson WAS one of the guys who DID do work on the original. However, the name ANY old-school player of D&D (basic or Advanced/AD&D) remembers is Gary Gygax. A number of the developers' names were snuck into the names of things in AD&D, such as the Chariot of Sustarre (a chariot of fire) and the Apparatus of Kwalish (a minisub). Since Arneson's name did not appear in that fashion, I'm suspicious of any claims he was THE big guy in developing the game. D&D was not developed in one afternoon by 2 guys with a big bottle of Mountain Dew and some dice. Tabletop generals had been playing all sorts of vaguely similar games for a long time. (In its own way, it's similar to "Risk" and "Stratego".) One board-game of that type involved movements of medieval armies. Rules were developed for THAT game, and it was known as "Chainmail." Further developments and improvements on "Chainmail" (which was itself an expansion of certain tabletopped games) resulted in 1st Edition D & D. I'd say further that most people who played it more than once played "AD&D", which was the "Advanced" game based on 1st Edition D&D. Dave Arneson worked on 1st Edition D & D and made significant contributions to it. Calling him "THE inventor" of the game, as you can see, is, at best, only slightly true. He's neither the "first" person who worked on it, nor the one who worked on it most, nor was there only ONE person at any stage. It's like claiming Henry Ford was "THE inventor of the automobile".

Zixar and I got into a running debate over this. It's around here somewhere. Dungeons and Dragons was always Gary Gygax's baby and I NEVER heard of him taking it. I completely forget the substance of Zixar's replies, but they're around here SOMEWHERE....

For a lot less money, you can get BG Leonard's class, of which pfal was a bad xerox without any toner. It even includes Henry Belocco, Maggie Muggins and Johnny Jumpup.

What Is The Way -- For Those Considering Joining TWI
WordWolf replied to Bob's topic in About The Way
You didn't tell us what promise was given you, which was confirmed with the Ft Lauderdale snow, nor what inanimate object (like gas pumps) you were unable to see due to whiteout. -
(Nuts. I was all set to start posting more quotes from Hot Shots Part Deux until someone got it.)

If I remember correctly, "before" can also be translated as "against". "Before the LORD" having the same meaning as the contemporary term "in the LORD's face." (This is completely different in meaning from when David danced before the LORD as a gesture of humility and praise before God.) ==== If we aren't meant to eat animals, why are they made of meat?"- Remo Williams, one of the Destroyer books. Thanks for the info. I keep forgetting. No, wrong guess. I'll give the others a few more hours before posting another quote.

Since he didn't post one, here's one... " ..Tojo, my fellow Americans, and our millions of illegal aliens. It seems like only yesterday that I was strafing so many of your homes. Here I am today, begging you not to make such good cars. " [Made a slight correction, but the essence of the quote was intact.]

What Did Wierwille Know & When Did He Know It?
WordWolf replied to Oakspear's topic in About The Way
Well, he didn't want the competition. He'd already invested considerable time and effort with the construction of a separate office just for that, and an 'inner circle' to hush things up and facilitate procurement (rfr was in on that, remember) and so on. He didn't want someone else siphoning off what he saw as "his action". Furthermore, if the OFFICIAL STATEMENTS are always "no fooling around", doesn't it (and DIDN'T IT) make it a LOT harder to be believed when you're trying to tell someone he did things to you or a loved one? -

I'll tell you the difference between the deaths of Victor Paul Wierwille and Karol Wojtyla, Pope John Paul II. Pope John Paul II was the man he knew himself to be.

"FEW know about plurality giving? BUSHWAH! Unless you count everyone who ever heard the Acts 29 song about "Plurality Giving"-called "Plurality Giving"- "FEW" people, then a LOT of people heard about it back in the mid-to-late 80s after their album "God First" was released. That was the album with the least number of songs, and TWO of them-count them, TWO of them-were about giving money. One was about the tithe, and was called "Firstfruits". One was about "plurality giving", and was called "Plurality Giving". I liked to play them back-to-back. So long as we're shilling for money, let's not pretend we're not. :D--> Back in the 80s, the teachings on "plurality giving" weren't coercive like in the "Promised Land of the Prevailing Word", when people were to "prevail" on the brink of poverty. lcm HIMSELF said, in the context of giving beyond your need, that it was up to you to determine what your "need" was. He said that if your need involved you owning 12 cars, then that was that. I guess THAT's the part he really took for himself, though, and decided that his "need" involved extensive luxuries. (This wasn't difficult-he already had a live example of someone who decided that for themself to draw from for years.) Then again, lcm's messages got crazier over the years. In the 80s, tithing was 10% ("tithe" means "tenth"), abundant sharing was optional, and plurality giving was a nice goal. By the end of the 90s, tithing was 15%, giving above that was mandatory, and plurality giving was seen as the practical target for everyone they hadn't run off. === Even a cursory reading of Acts 4:32-35 should show this was nothing like THEIR practice! "Neither was there any among them that lacked....distribution was made unto every man according as he had need." This practice took the EXTRA from some and used it to cover the NEED of OTHERS- so that NOBODY had luxuries at that moment, but all had enough to cover their NEEDS. This was sufficient to cover the immediate needs of the situation, which were the result of the immediate situation of the sudden influx of new arrivals who didn't have jobs yet. Compare this one-time incident with the WEEKLY practice of twi, where you gave everything WEEK after WEEK, and, instead of it going to the POOR to cover their needs, it went to purchase luxuries for those at the top. The apostles NEVER had luxuries for themselves, they bled out their lives for God's people, and Paul himself worked a secular job to set a good example. ===== This little 'Dead Sea' was dead for years-because it was all INLET and no OUTLET. ( And because of all the dead bodies floatin' in it.)

Even when I was IN, I wasn't thrilled with lcm's anti-Catholicism rants. (Not that I have any love for the organization, but Christ died for Roman Catholics as well as twiglets, Greasespotters, and Christian werewolves. :)--> ) I didn't see any profit in simple bashing of Christians OR organizations. WORSE, lcm ranted against "Apostolic Succession" and "Papal Infallibility", and darned if he didn't carry on as if both applied to HIM. I've not agreed with all Jean Paul II's doctrine, and I've pointed stuff out when relevant, but, for the most part, I've said I've liked him as popes go, and most of his rap I've been ok with. (Yes, I ended with a preposition. Beat me.)

I at least waited til I met him to give him static over that. I had spent over 2 hours playing "Profiler" and getting in the hacker's head. I had even prowled cyberspace and had a prime suspect. Glad I awaited further events before going after him. And I was mildly amused when I told Paw off for it (mock told-him-off, of course.) So, he knew I wasn't sore. :)-->

*checks* Holy moley, he's right! G st G, the usual rule of thumb for trivia online is the Honor System, and if your curiousity got the best of you and you HAD to look it up, then you opted out of answering. Otherwise, there's no challenge. (Yes, when I checked, I invalidated myself for answering that one.) Raf's up at bat.
