Israel -- A Royal Land Grant or Modern Day Religous Hoax?
Raf replied to oldiesman's topic in Doctrinal: Exploring the Bible
I can't. To me, even if you remove current politics from it, you get the following question: "Can a nation claim land on the legal grounds that an Imaginary Being granted the land to an Imaginary Ancestor, sealed by self-mutilation at a date and time witnessed by no one but recorded for posterity after the fact by people living better than a thousand years later? Pray tell, why should anyone who DOESN'T worship this god be bound by this bequest? -
Israel -- A Royal Land Grant or Modern Day Religous Hoax?

This thread is inherently political. Our only reason to examine the question at hand is steeped in politics. -

Quick comment as I digest the latest posts (not exactly a priority): The article linked does not discuss anything resembling an idiom of permission. It says there are idioms. No duh. What Is a Hebrew Idiom? | Learn How They Reveal and Conceal Meaning (voiceofelijah.org) Discussing idioms is not the same thing as discussing an idiom of permission.

Why am I still a Christian?
Raf replied to Rocky's topic in Atheism, nontheism, skepticism: Questioning Faith
The ex-Muslim atheist Ayaan Hirsi Ali recently announced her conversion to Christianity. Her conversion story is steeped in politics, so it's impossible to discuss her story without discussing politics. Ground rules: The validity of her political views are off limits. The validity of her religious views are. Why I am now a Christian - UnHerd I have not read her essay, nor have I listened to the video in the o.p. I will not comment until I do one or the other, preferably both. In case you were wondering why I'm so quiet. :) -
This movie featured Dylan McDermott, John Mahoney and Rene Russo.

"A man curses because he doesn't have the words to say what's on his mind." *** "'Black: Destitute of light, devoid of color. Enveloped in darkness, hence, utterly dismal or gloomy as, 'The future looked black.'" "Pretty good with them words, ain't ya?" "Soiled with dirt. Foul. Sullen. Hostile. Forbidding, as, 'a black day.' Foully or outrageously wicked as, 'black cruelty.' lndicating disgrace, dishonor or culpability. And there's others. 'Blackmail.' 'Blackball.' 'Blackguard.'" "Yeah, man. That's something, all right." "Let's look up 'white.' Here. Read." "'White: The color of pure snow. Reflecting all the rays of the spectrum. The opposite of black. Free from spot or blemish.' 'lnnocent?' 'Pure.' Huh? Ain't this something?"
