Whatever happened to Hays Gahagan? He was supposed to be the believer congressman or senator. I know he was from New England, I think New Hampshire. I also know that a lot of believers from all over the US traveled to New England to campaign for him.

its kind of sad. The fellow really is brilliant.. too bad herr victoid got to him at one time..

and it seems he does not seem to demonize the "opposition".. maybe he learned something..

while I'm in a hundred percent agreement.. on the benefits of a representative form of government..

No matter what the venue, an empty stomach makes a poor arbitrator..

Collectivism and atheism go hand-in-hand.

Same old, same old canard linking atheism and communism (or Marxism, collectivism, socialism, Nazism, etc. Take your pick of your favorite 'seed boy' philosophy that is s-o-o un-American, according to the Vicster. <_< ).

I like the response by this particular 'collectivist'.

Wow. This conflict in worldviews is between 1) good guys like me who are rugged Godfearing individuals and 2) communist relativists.

I guess us Blue Dogs, moderates, progressive Christians, intellectual Jews, community Muslims, atheists, unenrolled voters, social activists, economic conservatives, and libertarians just don't matter.

:B)

quote:

The Bangor Daily News encourages comments about stories, but you must follow our terms of service.

In brief:

1.Keep it civil and stay on topic

2.No vulgarity, racial slurs, name-calling or personal attacks.

3.People who harass others or joke about tragedies will be blocked.

The primary rule here is pretty simple: Treat others with the same respect you'd want for yourself. Here are some guidelines (see more):

I personally don't see requirements like these in comments sections on line. Not on youtube, the Grateful Dead website, or any newspaper forum in the St.Louis area. Dare I say...GSC in culture? :)

I met the Senator back in the days at TWI when he was meeting with VPW. He's a nice man. He's sincere. I do not agree with him however, especially with his statement that: " Collectivism and atheism go hand-in-hand." This is false.

Whille it was officially true in Communist China under Mao, it is not true for every collectivist society. Take even a cursory look at religions across the world and their cultures and you can see this statement is not true.

For instance, in more communal or "collectivist" societies like in Bali, Indonesia (which practices Balinese Hinduism) and other non-Western countries, (the Aboriginal people of Australia) many people have a belief in a supernatural deity or deities they call God(s). They are not atheist. Perhaps they might be atheist to the writer of this article because their religion is not monotheistic - they don't worship the idea of God that Christians, Jews, or Muslims have) but they do believe in the supernatural, the divine power greater than themselves.

And one more thing, it seems to me that paranoia about individuals being sucked into a collective is odd coming from Christians. Some early Christians were VERY communal, even though there were many different factions. Just read Acts, most of Paul's epistles and also gospel records of Jesus' words about loving one another.

I'm NOT saying we shoud immitate collectivist patterns found in the Bible and try to put them in our government's structure in the USA , I'm just saying that Christians who slam this "collectivist" notion as bad, should take a look at their own religious roots.

Cheers!

He must have forgotten his time with TWI--collectivist, yet not atheist.
