The Word says that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge and of wisdom.
The fear of the Lord is an attitude of humilty toward Him. When Wierwille taught us that to fear the Lord meant to respect Him, the way we might respect an elderly uncle we are no longer expected to obey, Wierwille was teaching us an attitude of arrogance toward the Word, God's people and God Himself. When Wierwille was teaching us that his private interpretation of the Word took the place of the "absent Christ", he was blinding us to the true source of in depth spiritual perception and awareness.
