WHAT IS A GRANDPARENT?

(taken from papers written by a class of 8-year-olds)

Grandparents are a lady and a man who have no little children of her own. They like other people's.

A grandfather is a man grandmother.

Grandparents don't have to do anything except be there when we come to see them. They are so old they shouldn't play hard or run. It is good if they drive us to the store and have lots of quarters for us.

When they take us for walks, they slow down past things like pretty leaves and caterpillars.

They show us and talk to us about the color of the flowers and also Why we shouldn't step on "cracks."

They don't say, "Hurry up."

Usually grandmothers are fat, but not too fat to tie your shoes.

They wear glasses and funny underwear.

They can take their teeth and gums out.

Grandparents don't have to be smart.

They have to answer questions like "why isn't God married?" and "How come dogs chase cats?".

When they read to us, they don't skip. They don't mind if we ask for the same story over again.

Everybody should try to have a grandmother, especially if you don't have television, because they are the only grown ups who like to spend time with us.

They know we should have snack-time before bedtime and they say prayers with us every time, and kiss us even when we've acted bad.

A 6 YEAR OLD WAS ASKED WHERE HIS GRANDMA LIVED. ''OH,'' HE SAID, ''SHE LIVES AT THE AIRPORT, AND WHEN WE WANT HER WE JUST GO GET HER. THEN WHEN WE'RE DONE HAVING HER VISIT, WE TAKE HER BACK TO THE AIRPORT.''

Send this to other grandparents. It will make their day

Thanks you all...

Excie, same with me with my first one...my mother did the first bath...she was way too slippery for me and I was scared to death!!!!

There is nothing more gratifying than being the grandparent and showing them things patiently. Things the parents really can't fill because of their responsibility as a parent.

Kids who have a chance to really get to know their grandparents are truly blessed. All of mine lived 1000 miles away for most of my life and I saw them maybe once a year.

My wife's dad passed away in October. He was a good man who loved his four grandchildren very much. Fortunately, they got to spend a lot of time with him, but that also made his death a lot harder for them.

It's been kind of a tough Christmas this year without Papa.

Grandparents are the BEST! I grew up around mine and they are extremely close to all us grandkids. They are getting older and not getting around as well and it breaks my heart to think that they may not be around for my kids to get to know them (I'm still hoping to have a family someday).

My grandmother used to take me to the zoo, to the movies, to get ice cream and anywhere else I wanted to go - just the 2 of us. Paw Paw spanked me once - only once - and I was so shocked and hurt that I never ever ever did anything to make him mad at me again.

They always make sure I know how much they love me and how special I am to them. Grandparents are the absolute best family members to have, imo.
