  1. Past hour
  2. Wise guy. Yes, it's The Outer Limits, which, I suppose, roughly translates to Furthest Frontiers. George
  3. Good afternoon, Grease Spotters! I posted this in the Open Forum before discovering you had a special forum for books, etc. I've written and published a book on an experience I had during the Vietnam War, previously to my getting caught up in TWI. I hadn't spoken of it for more than fifty years until my wife finally talked me into giving up the story. There was a podcast made of it in True War Stories: Mission Report, called "The War Bride", and I finally wrote up the story in a book that I called, "The Great Goodbye". The podcasts are now available on all major podcast networks, including Spotify, and the book is available on Amazon, arnes & Noble, Books-A-Million, and most online retailers. It should be in retail stores soon based on a project in the works. 4. Today
  5. OK, if not "Furthest Frontiers", how about "THE OUTER LIMITS"?
  6. The original WAS "Win Ben Stein's Money." In Round 2, BS steps in to answer questions. If others get answers correct, their totals go up and his goes down. If he gets them correct, no money changes. Jimmy Kimmel's been the host of "WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE" for a few years now, starting around 2020 0r 2021, with a show that had no studio audience. (With no audience, "ask the audience" became "ask the host". Personally, I would have liked them doing an online poll at the time.) So, perhaps it was too easy, but it was on my mind right now. Your turn again!
  7. Actually, the publicity of this story has been going n since October 2022. I didn't talk about it for more than 50 years. There was a podcast made of it, as well as a YouTube interview, and a Press Release. 8. Oldiesman, There's two ways to look at this: as a believer wanting to practice what the Bible teaches, and as an outsider looking for proof that the phenomenon described has any validity to it. I went from the first to the second over a long period of time. As a believer wanting to do what the Bible teaches, I had to admit to myself that I had no reason to believe I was producing a language, or that anyone else was. And producing a language is exactly what the Bible seems to teach (IF you agree with the premise that the Bible does not contradict itself). Once you get away from faith, starting with the belief that the Bible, even if inspired, is not the perfect word of the perfect God, and that it CAN contradict itself, then you leave open the possibility that the phenomenon described by Paul and the phenomenon described by Luke are not the same thing. So Acts gives us languages people understand, and Corinthians gives us "tongues of angels" the "no man understands." Well, which is it? I submit "tongues of angels" and "no man understands" moves us out of the realm of making a testable claim. I also submit that if you are making an untestable claim, I am under no obligation to believe it. But I respect that you DO believe it, and I respect that you may think I am mistaken on every point, regardless of whether you can express that disagreement to MY satisfaction (you owe me no such explanation). All of which is to say I have no argument with you and your practice of SIT. Obviously, you think (as a believer) that I am missing out by dismissing Christianity, and I think (as an unbeliever) that you are wasting your time with worship. But we can be respectful about our RIGHT to disagree on the subject of faith, and I thank you for doing so.

    Hello again

Thank you for the report Seth. How long have you been on Ozempic and what are the side effects if any? I've heard great things about it. Did you settle on a dose and keep on that dose for a long time? Thx.
  10. I don't do much office work anymore but find Apache which takes the place of Microsoft Word pretty good to use for simple letters.. its free and works the same. So you recommend moving over to Linux from either Google or Edge? Other than lack of spying, is there any other benefit?
  11. I think the original was "Win Ben Stein's Money." Jimmy Kimmel was Stein's second banana on the show. He might have had a game show of his own, but I can't recall it. George
  12. I've never heard of that show. This one is (presumably) better known. The original title for this series was "Please Stand By," but because the Cuban Missile Crisis had happened less than a year earlier, executives thought it might make people fearful of an air raid. As a reference to this, when this show would cut to a commercial, the Control Voice said, "Please stand by." When the series finale, The Probe (1965), was originally aired, a live announcer spoke over the Control Voice's closing statement about returning "next week at this same time." The live announcer stated that The King Family Show would be seen "next week in this time period." The regular Control Voice closing for The Probe (1965) was heard only in re-runs. Gene Roddenberry was a big fan of the series, being a regular visitor to the set. He would use many of the crew, cast, costumes, and props on Star Trek. Vic Perrin (The Control Voice) once stated that almost all of his opening and closing narrations were recorded in one or at most two studio sessions. He had no idea what the episodes were about but often joked that he had the "God-given" ability to sound authoritative on things that he knew nothing about. This series provides an example of a television network deliberately killing a popular series by moving it to an inappropriate slot on their schedule. This series was a big hit, especially among younger viewers. For the second season, ABC moved it from Monday nights to 7:30 p.m. Saturday. It was not only an inappropriate timeslot for younger viewers but served as the lead-in for The Lawrence Welk Show and was scheduled opposite the highly popular Jackie Gleason: American Scene Magazine on CBS. The series was pulled halfway into the second season due to the resulting low ratings. (A reboot of the show, in 1995, actually lasted quite a bit longer (7 years).) George
  13. I think it's a question of faith like anything else biblical. Raf, I'm still completely hooked on SIT and I love it. I go religiously to Roman Catholic Mass, the traditional one that's only in Latin. (and the trads do not believe in SIT as regular prayer.) But I'm there in the front row with SIT anyway. I believe it's profitable -- I've heard it said that some catholic theologians and those in the Novus Ordo Vatican 2 charismatic movement find value in SIT for personal prayer and devotion, and as a way to express feelings to God when words fail. I've persoally seen them hold services where they SIT out of order i.e. with no interpretor--- Paul is clear that it's only for quiet personal use unless interpreted and I would like to see them do it correctly if it's out there.
  14. I saw a game show where the host complained. Part of the game show involves the host in play. He complained that the original host never had to do it. He asked what other show had this. I laughed and shouted at the TV, because this was actually the second show I was aware of where that happened..... and this host should remember it personally, since he was on THAT show also, even if he wasn't the host in question! Please name EITHER show. (Or both for bragging rights.)
  15. "Whenever we kiss, I get to feeling like this. I get to wishing that there was two of you. My heart cries out, "More, baby!" It feels so nice, I want your arms to wrap around me twice." "When you had to go, I hated the thought. I always wish the night was twice as long." I can't post the title, so I'm running out of lyrics.
  16. If you're confusing this movie for the remake, you might get stuck, and I'd understand that.
  17. Tony Perkins Michael York Vanessa Redgrave Richard Widmark John Gielgud Sean Connery Jacqueline Bisset Ingrid Bergman Lauren Bacall Albert Finney Jean-Pierre Cassel Martin Balsam Wendy Hiller Rachel Roberts Colin Blakely George Coulouris Denis Quilley Vernon Dobtcheff
  18. *punches Human in the lower lip* Hang on, I'll post more. I didn't think it would take this long.
  19. No. But you have probably seen it. It's possible you read the book.
  20. Yesterday
  21. Surprised that one took so long.
