  1. Past hour
  2. I think Kennedy was still in his 40s when he was shot. I suspect that FDR was older than 59 when he died (after 14 years in office). I also thing WHH was an older guy. I'm thinking Abraham Lincoln, William McKinley, and James Garfield. All assassinated and moderately young. George
  3. I doubt you have access to "MeTV" but it broadcasts those shows on Saturday night. I get a kick out of "Time Tunnel." No matter where and when they wind up, everyone speaks English. George
  4. Finally nailed it. I saw the movie when it first came out, and I still remember the "practice when I'm alone" and "scared of dying" exchanges. George
  5. I can never remember which Eastwood film this is. "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly"? George
  6. Today
  7. I'm going with JFK (young guy whose term was interrupted), William Henry Harrison (he got sick almost immediately upon being sworn in and died), and FDR (who also died in office, and was plagued with health problems long before he was elected president.)
  8. I'll have to thank her for correctly identifying which was "the Time Tunnel." I suspected it was up there, but she used to watch the show.
  9. "Love and Death"???? My virtual arms are getting tired of all these wild swings. Maybe some clue might help us narrow this down further.
  10. "What we've got here is failure to communicate."
  11. Harrison Ford Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull John Hurt
  12. Depending on how you look at it, this movie was either very faithful to the source material, or deviated wildly from the source material. Just looking at the name of the film, it's obvious what the original work was- which is very famous in its own right- and also obvious that it takes some creative license with the material. It boasts an all-star cast, and it was based on a very famous previous work. The original author is definitely very famous-you've all heard of him. I'm impressed the movie was greenlit- the guy in charge was not known for directing movies, he was known for directing music videos. It has a number of famous lines in it- so famous I'm leery of posting any as clues. The director took creative license with this film (no, really?). Examples include the scene with a guy obviously in drag, and the scene with the drug use (actually, the scenes overlap.) A number of the actors were fairly safe choices- nobody worries if Paul Sorvino can manage his scenes- but a few were riskier. John Leguizamo in an action scene? Yes- and he did rather well. Not many movies include television news broadcasts as part of the story- but this one did, and for reasons that seem obvious and necessary in hindsight.
  13. Depending on your needs, you might be fine with a free program. I did a quick search on "free video editing software windows" and got the following links to lists with explanations, ranking, and links to freeware. https://www.cyberlink.com/blog/the-top-video-editors/89/best-free-video-editor-windows https://www.techradar.com/best/free-video-editing-software https://www.softwaretestinghelp.com/best-free-video-editing-software/ https://www.pcworld.com/article/1955503/edit-video-like-the-pros-for-free.html You might look those over before spending money.

I don't want this thread to get in trouble for going Doctrinal or-more likely- getting Political. Oldiesman didn't say he saw them as other than human beings. No matter what you think of other people, we're all human beings, and we're all sinners. lcm used to scream all sorts of things, and probably DIDN'T see most people as " human beings." I don't know about now, nor do I care. If he wants me to know, he can come here and post it for himself. IMO, hateful screeds are worse than useless. If you want to get people to repent something, you have to remember " the goodness of God". As to what needs repenting, is " wrong", or is " sinful", we'll probably have to agree to disagree. We look at the world in fundamentally different ways. " The way I look at things like this now is through the lens of what society understands, in general." Right. I reserve the right to disagree with society, especially when I think society is wrong. For example, [political example redacted before posting] Let's leave it at that.
  15. "Whenever I watch the intro to an episode of Jeopardy, when Johnny Gilbert introduces Ken Jennings, I still am stuck on expecting him to say Alex Trebek." I get that, too. "Also why do I still refer to the Way as “the ministry?” I catch myself doing that still and it frustrates me." Then, stop doing it. Really. You're choosing the words in your head, and when and how you're using them. Make the decision as to what you're going to call them. Decades ago, I started calling them "twi" (no capitalization, no respect whether or not it's grammatical), and that's how I refer to them in posts or in conversation- unless I have to stop and make an exception, which is incredibly rare. Each time you do it, it gets easier to do it for the next time. You built ONE habit, now you're building a DIFFERENT habit. At first, you may make a mistake- or several- but keep at it. It will get easier over time. I've had to learn Spanish, in a country where the pronunciation has differences from where I grew up in the US. One difference is very obvious. I made a point to practice it all the time. I made a few mistakes. After a few months, it became automatic, and I have to consciously make an effort to pronounce the sound "the old way." For that matter, the slang is different, and I adjusted to the local slang, and just remember the other slang for when I have to travel or "skype" with people. (I'm going to need a few more months to get used to terms other than "skyping" for videoconferencing.) I call it "twi." If that doesn't work for you, pick a name you prefer. Have no idea what else to choose? Open a new thread and ask for suggestions. You should get a few interesting ones, hopefully several useful ones in between people who make a joke instead of helping. (It's a very unusual request, even if it's a simple one.) Then go through the thread and rank the results, and pick the one you like best.
  16. Thanks guys! I think my biggest surprise was thinking of Mark and Avoid! “The ministry” is frustrating but then when I am talking about it with other ex members it’s sort of like what else would I call it?
  17. Anyone today would recognize that U.S. presidents live a long time, with Jimmy Carter passing away at 100 in 2024. The average age of a U.S. president is 78 years old. But only five presidents died in their 50s. Name three.
  18. 5) IS Jonny Quest 3) IS The Time tunnel So, you win. (Incidentally, those are the two I would have known immediately.) The others: 1) The Invaders 2) Land of the Giants 4) Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea 6) It's About Time George
  19. Still no. (Allen and Keaton weren't Russians in Sleeper, and that movie is even further from Napoleon's time than Manhattan.) "To love is to suffer. To avoid suffering one must not love. But then one suffers from not loving. Therefore, to love is to suffer; not to love is to suffer; to suffer is to suffer. To be happy is to love. To be happy, then, is to suffer, but suffering makes one unhappy. Therefore, to be unhappy, one must love or love to suffer or suffer from too much happiness. I hope you're getting this down." "You are the greatest lover I've ever had." "Well, I practice a lot when I'm alone." "Oh don't, Boris, please. Sex without love is an empty experience." "Yes, but as empty experiences go, it's one of the best." "So who is to say what is moral?" "Morality is subjective." "Subjectivity is objective." "Moral notions imply attributes to substances which exist only in relational duality." "Not as an essential extension of ontological existence." "Can we not talk about sex so much?" "The question is: have I learned anything about life? Only that... only that human beings are divided into mind and body. The mind embraces all the nobler aspirations, like poetry and philosophy, but the body has all the fun. The important thing, I think, is not to be bitter. You know, if it turns out that there IS a God, I don't think that He's evil. I think that the worst you can say about Him is that, basically, He's an underachiever. After all, you know, there are worse things in life than death. I mean, if you've ever spent an evening with an insurance salesman, you know exactly what I mean. The key here, I think, is to... to not think of death as an end, but think of it more as a very effective way of cutting down on your expenses. Regarding love, heh, you know, what can you say? It's not the quantity of your sexual relations that count. It's the quality. On the other hand, if the quantity drops below once every eight months, I would definitely look into it. Well, that's about it for me folks. Goodbye." "If I don't kill him he'll make war all through Europe. But murder... the most foul of all crimes. What would Socrates say? All those Greeks were homosexuals. Boy, they must have had some wild parties. I bet they all took a house together in Crete for the summer. A: Socrates is a man. B: All men are mortal. C: All men are Socrates. That means all men are homosexuals. Heh... I'm not a homosexual. Once, some cossacks whistled at me. I happen to have the kind of body that excites both persuasions. You know, some men are heterosexual and some men are bisexual and some men don't think about sex at all, you know... they become lawyers." "Sonja, are you scared of dying?" "Scared is the wrong word. I'm frightened of it." "That's an interesting distinction." George
  20. OK, here's our guesses. 5) is definitely "JOHNNY QUEST." 3) might be "the Time Tunnel." 6), is remotely possible it is "the Ghost Busters."

The way I look at things like this now is through the lens of what society understands, in general. I'm not afraid to believe that homosexually oriented people are human beings just like you and me. IMO, God doesn't hate them or consider them "wrong." They just are, just like you and I are humans.
  26. Whenever I watch the intro to an episode of Jeopardy, when Johnny Gilbert introduces Ken Jennings, I still am stuck on expecting him to say Alex Trebek. It's a mental habit... of my expectation. IOW, don't beat yourself up about it Penguin2.
  27. Meh. I still call it "the ministry" out of habit. I never stop to consider the semantic implications. I'm sure there are lots of other non-cult words and phrases in our vocabularies that we never stop to analyse in-depth. I still call bandages "Band Aids" without much thought. I just don't worry about.
