You are right Mark, about the "building up the immune system", and believe me, they have!

I know some freaky parents, esp in the infant stages that won't even let another person hold their baby!

I am not that way at all.

But, as a mom, it is primarily my job to be up all night when the kids are sick. Like Rascal said, with a butt load of kids, getting it one by one, that makes for a pretty miserable month, let alone financially.

So, if I can avoid places that are "loaded" with germs, I will chose not to purposely expose them.

I just really need my sleep this week.

As I journey back in time thinking about my days in "lalala looney land", I recall some idiotic, even laughable things I "reproved" someone for.

Here is one:

I had a roomate back in early 90's, and every morning she would get up and make a cup of coffee.

One day, I blatenly said to her, " so why do you drink coffee every morning? Are you addicted?"

She was so caught off gaurd, and said, "No , I just like it?"

I said, "if you HAVE to have it, then it is wrong and you should consider what your motives are".

I think she didn't continue making her coffee that day.

WTF? I mean, this was at the height of LCM's sceaming rage and arrogant behavior, but just because I didn't drink it, doesn't give me the right to say that crap.

Fast forward 15 years, I LOVE COFFEE, and I have it every morning!

Silly me.

oh how this rings loudly in my ears!

My kids are NOT allowed to play in the "play yards" of any such restaurant, even though we only go if we are on a trip and that is our only option. Those places NEVER get cleaned.

Hence, the MALL. On cold days I would occasionally take my then "young" children( 2-4 year olds) to the play area of the malls. While fun, they are infested with snot, puke, spit, boogers, and occasionally, POOP.

EVERY TIME my kids played there, they were sick 3 days later.

How about all the kid water parks, themed parks? How often I see poop sliding down the waterslide, to then have the whole section sectioned off for hours.

I had enough!

So, sorry if my girlfriends think I am such a "strict" parent for not letting my kids eat or go to McDonalds or the new "super duper deluxe" Children's play museum down the road.........I don't care.

It cost me $100 bucks every time my kid needs antibiotics. I'll let them do pony rides on my back thankyou.

I teach my kids to cough in their shoulder sleeve and not their hands, but, they don't always remember, little buggers.

and another thing........................

I have a neighbor friend that is sssssoooooo ignorant about her children being sick, and when to let them "play or not play".

She asks me, " JJ had a fever a couple hours ago, but I gave him Tylonol and he's better now, can he come over and play?"

ahhhh what?

I mean, he feels better because of drugs girl, not because he is NOT CONTAGIOUS!

Major pet peeve. It is like they have no clue what germs do, and how they are transmitted.

Yes we definatley need some "germ warfare" class.

BTW her house is always gross. Not just disorganized or "kid friendly", it's dirty.

So, "cleanliness classes" are needed too.

I loved and still do love the fellowship I just left 8 months ago.

They are great folks. I even liked my leadership.

I finished reading this book during the Christmas break, it was emotional, but I gotta tell ya..... I only cried in one part. And I cry in commercials!

During the whole time I am reading this, I kept saying "how the hell does he remember all these details?"

I mean, I have enough problems remembering what I ate yesterday for dinner, and I have NEVER done drugs! Let alone, how "I" am feeling at every given moment, how someone is "looking" to me, what the sunshine is doing at the moment. I mean, it really read more like a novel than a memoir.

I kept waiting for the sentence" i am keeping a journal during this time" or something....

the only thing he says is that he has "a good memory".

well, I guess smoking dope and snorting EVERYTHING doesn't destroy brain cells. HMMMMNN???

I am pretty sure he "embellished" a lot of the story. How could he not? The details alone are more than anyone in his sick shape could remember.

I did enjoy the book, however, if you can call reading about vomit and bile and suicidal thoughts, "joyful".

But, it was intriging, and it did give me sort of "empathy" towards anyone with addictions. Only positive for me in the sense that in The Way I was so NONSYMPATHETIC towards anyone with these problems.

So for once, i saw the "other side" and how so many people have to deal with bad things that I never dealt with myself. (abuse, sexual, bad parents/etc..)

So I hope that Frey isn't "conning" everyone with this book. But, I will NEVER underestimate what bad things people are capable of doing anymore.

From one "new outie" to another , I deal with this a lot still.

Many do not know about our departure, yet.

One thing I noticed is that if someone has been "questioning" anything in their heart, as soon as you mention why you left, they are "all ears!"

But, with someone who thinks "everything is wonderful" and "I love my fellowship", as soon as you say one bad thing, they "close their ears!"

This has happend so often lately that I just feel them out and see where they are at.

Most say "I don't want to know anymore........"

So, sounds like she has no reason to leave, and likes her life. Without a computer to check things out for herself, she'll be a basketcase if you tell her things that she never knew. She probably thinks she's being more "loving" like they promote, and writing a "copout" so they Might come back to the household!

I know I was for the first 2 months I found this site. My whole life was in question! Upheavel.
