  1. "before I try to tell them they're wrong" Does this strike anyone else as still being a bit arrogant? It reminds me of THIS. Rest assured, 1b1, I am not questioning your heart. However, to think you KNOW what God is or isn't, borders on acting like a TWIt-type person.
  2. Don't tell me we're being sent to the doctrinal dungeon, the HORROR.
  3. Don't know what the problem is, WB. The audio file downloads just fine here. :( Perhaps someone with more expertise than myself can help you there.
  4. Now we'll get into the basic principles as well as common problems with kids. ENJOY!
  5. My apologies, Dooj. My threads seem to have a tendency to crash and burn (which is why I don't start many), therefore, I was getting a little anxious.
  6. Up to now, half of the posts on this thread have been mine. What I would like to hear is if you're using it, and what the results have been.
  7. *************POSTED BY ABIGAIL************** I would like to so some research on brain development, with some specific questions in mind regarding childhood development, but I am lacking the specific terminology for the search and was hoping someone here might be able to help me. I am looking for input in terms of childhood development. Specifically socialization skills, and how/when the brain starts putting together cause and effect in relationship to them. At least, that is the best short description I can come up with. If you have a longer attention span than I ( ) you can keep reading and I will elaborate. When Jacob was little, he had so much fluid in his eustachian tubes he couldn't hear. Unfortunately, none of us caught this until he was nearly 2. This caused some significant delays in his speech development. Once we caught it, the docs were able to correct it. At the time, they explained to me there is a certain window of opportunity for language development. If you miss that window, you can still learn to speak, but it is more difficult. They were concerned that for Jacob, the window was quickly closing and therefore he may need some special ed services to catch him up. Thankfully, he loved books and I was able to spend a lot of time going through picture books and naming objects, etc. and he caught up just fine and was soon talking up a storm. Jacob also has ADHD. He is not hyperactive, just extremely innattentive. He lives in his own little world and it can be quite a challenge to bring him into this one. Because of this, he has some difficult with socialization skills and I am concerned that he may be lagging in development in this area. I had this same difficulty as a child and am therefore aware of the longer term problems this can cause. So what I am looking for is information on where he is currently in his development, compared to other kids his age (7 - will be 8 in April) and, if he is behind in this area, what we might do to help him catch up, while the "window for development" is still open. I'm just not sure what terminology to use, to narrow the search field to something that would be manageable for me.
  8. In light of a bunch of new people showing up here recently, I thought this worthy of an encore performance. Recently, I finally had the opportunity to meet Catcup and her husband. I was in their area because I needed to have a more advanced EEG done. She and her husband, Research Geek, were gracious enough to allow us to hang at their house since I needed to stay awake somewhat longer than I normally do. It is only because we had a long history of chatting (approximately 8-10 years) that I even considered meeting her and her husband. I suspect it was the same for her. Both of us were rather involved when Waydale was up and running. She also laughed at most of my jokes. In any event, I will agree with erring on the side of caution. It is more important to protect yourself than the possible feelings of someone you don't know very well. BTW, Cat, next time we visit, I'm bringing my own frying pans.
  9. That's the way I figure it, George. I went looking for 'Him' once. Now it's his turn (though, winning the lottery tonight would really help my unbelief )
  10. I didn't read this particular book, but I did read another of his books. Mr. Spence is an excellent writer and one of the foremost legal minds in our country today. HERE!
  11. Gee, never thought I would hear myself say those words again (run a class).
  12. Sure, HERE! There is also material geared toward educators, so, anyone who deals with children can benefit. If there are enough people, I would even run a class for y'all. However, this would mean a heckuva commute for most of you.
  13. Well, PB, if he IS being especially 'kind' to himself, I don't think I want to see it. However, I recognize there may be some here who would.
  14. I've been listening to this of late, and wondered if some parents could use some laughs. Helicopters, Drill Sergeants and Consultants
  15. I know this is a minor thing, but the "Enter Live Chat" button by the listing of people in chat seems to have entered the cyberspace "black hole". I liked not having to scroll back to the top of the page to actually enter chat.
  16. Well, Sudo, I'm sorry to hear you're, uh, 'bowing out'. One of the reasons I don't participate much is, I don't really have an extensive collection of stuff to post. My taste is rather eclectic, and I'm sure people would get burned out on what material I do have (I mean, I'm sure people don't want to hear Jackson Browne all the time). Another reason is, the era from which a lot of stuff is posted. It was before my time, therefore, I don't have a lot to offer in the way of comment. <_< Again, I'm sorry to hear you're bowing out. Perhaps it will be a hiatus, perhaps not. In any event, thank you for the years you've kept the thread going. Fare thee well, my friend.
  17. There's a place in Clifton, NJ, that deep fries HOT DOGS. It's called Rutt's Hut. If you're ever in Joisey, you have to stop there (be sure to have your cholesterol under control before entering).
  18. Oldies, it's not about what he said at other times. It's about the fact that in his published books, Victor Paul Wierwille failed to cite his sources. A man who emphasized his education at The University of Chicago (Which institution, by the way, produced the Chicago Manual of Style, THE standard for producing and presenting academic research), used the title Doctor, and wanted to bask in the prestige of one who earned such a title, should have understood the importance of citing sources. For Victor Paul Wierwille to fail to cite his sources means either: He failed to understand a basic principle of academic honesty he should have learned by his freshman year in HIGH SCHOOL. This therefore casts doubt on the quality of Wierwille's own education. Not citing his sources (plagiarism) would have DISQUALIFIED Wierwille from earning his DOCTORAL DEGREE from any reputable academic institution, due to his failure to understand and manifest a basic principle universally accepted by scholars. OR Victor Paul Wierwille chose to ignore this basic universal academic principle, which then in turn casts doubt on his moral character. HEY SUSHI---- You forgot to sign off when you used my computer!!!!!
  19. Sure we can, Dooj, we're Greasespotters, that's what we do. In any event, what were we supposed to do? Lay down like the sheep he seemed to think we were and say, "Like, OMG, ya know, if SOMEONE would just fix all the crap in TWI, I would be on that like flies on ......" Once one gets that taste in their mouth, it's unmistakable. From what I've heard (hearsay, yes, but all I have to go on), Mr. Lynn (originallyvia TWI, now CES) has negatively impacted many peoples' lives here. Did he really think we were going to welcome him with open arms? I would venture to say, most of us aren't at that place in our lives, where we can forgive like the father of the prodigal son. My point is, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. He learned well at the feet of a small time con artist.

    Bondage

I know I turned in my resignation from the NSP (nazi spelling police), but like a lot of crime movies, there's always 'one last job'. It's 'sophisticated' to spell correctly. On the 'pallet' issue, are you saying you have really good warehouse skids, or really good devices painters use to put their paints on? If not, I believe you meant 'palate' (as in soft or hard palate). (my apologies, I'm feeling a little testy this a.m., am going to Cleveland for testing)
  21. sorry if i done wrong, shell. It's kind of the running gag around the cafe. Ifn you want, I won't do it again (at least until the next time :) )

  22. And why does doing a bad, bad thing on your computer not surprise me? : )

Just for clarification, what bad, bad thing did you do?

    A Speach

I guess it depends on when these speeches are to be given, Herb. If somewhere in the far off future, get thee to a Toastmaster's meeting and join up. If it's in the immediate future, get a copy of Public Speaking For Dummies by Malcolm Kushner. The only other suggestion is to ask the person who asked you to give the speech if they had anything in mind for the speech. Other than that, attempt to tailor your speech to your audience.
