  1. This is the last thing I'm going to say about the whole CES thing. It seems to me, religious/spiritual people are especially susceptible to this sort of thing. Perhaps it's a genetic predisposition or upbringing (the whole nature/nurture debate). Or, perhaps it's a combination of both. They see how people can be treated in their association with a particular previous religious (?) organization, and somehow believe the people at the top when they say they're going to change things in THEIR org. This is a leap of faith, at best. People generally don't change. I know, there's the story in Acts (after Pentecost) where they supposedly did. But, since I don't believe "The Bible" to be "God-Breathed", I find it a little suspect. There is an old Jewish 'word problem'. It is an lesson in critical thinking. Two people go into a chimney. One comes out sooty, the other clean. The person posing the problem then asks, "How can that be?" When the student/s can't answer, he says,"How can they both come out clean?" George Santayana once said, "Those who do not remember history, are doomed to repeat it". Another way to put it, in the words of Dr. Cherie Carter Scott, "The lessons repeat until they are learned". If you want, I can have this printed up on business cards (just like the retemories of old). If there are enough orders, (starting at only 19.95) I would be glad to supply you with as many as you wish. The other, less expensive option, would be to read my signature as many times as necessary. Whichever 'way' you decide to go is fine with me. Merry Christmas (edited for spacing)

    Presstime's 20 Under 40

Yeah, but he dances like a person of Caucasian heritage. Congratulations, Raf.
  3. ****Abigail here - using the upstairs puter :) ************ Thanks, GT, for posting the other side of the story. Working in the legal field, I prefer to read the actual Opinion written by the Judge or Justices, to form my own opinion. Editorials tend to slant things toward whatever agenda they are trying to further. I still have no final opinion in this case, because I haven't read the official Opinion.
  4. I don't know if I would have stopped at the house. You just never know what sort of person is going to meet you at the door. But kudos for the machismo/a.
  5. Yeah, you HAVE to get an ironclad contract with that guy. He has a tendency to 'slither' out of given word. That's why I'm in Michigan. What he doesn't know though, I got the better end of the deal. nanananana

    I'm Dying

I don't have much to add either. I am truly sorry for your and your family's impending loss. I also don't really know how 'spiritually' inclined you are, but here's a thought that occasionally gives me some comfort regarding the end of my time here on the planet (I won't do it justice, since I'm paraphrasing). "When you came into this world, you didn't worry too much did you? Perhaps it is the same way for the return trip".

Mr. Strange, Just let her do all the packing. She will probably do it better and faster.

    Chatting

    Yep, still here.
  10. More than likely, you're experiencing "socket creep". What's probably happened, the soundcard moved juuuuuust enough to make it so it doesn't work. The soundcard needs to be pushed back into its original position. If you're not comfortable opening up the computer, find someone who is. The other possibility is, the sound got muted either by speakers not being turned on, or in the computer itself. Find your volume control (should be in Accessories), and make sure it wasn't muted there and all the sliders are up all the way.

Somehow, I suspect there's a folder in Washington, DC, with Ron's name on it.
  12. Ah, Sudo, projection is a wonderful thing, isn't it?
  13. If Sudo asked you to jump off a bridge, would you?
  14. Especially around here, I think, the word myth gets a fairly bad rap. Just because something is a 'myth' doesn't make it any less true than fact. Perhaps, it is even more so. There was an actual person by the name of "Sinterklaas". For more info, HERE! I'm just guessing, but if we tried to be more like 'Santa', the world might be a less dreary place to live in (this only because I got the last good woman in the world ) Like Jesus, Buddha, and Mohammed, Santa symbolizes man's lofty goals.

Left to their own devices, Slim Jims will probably outlast anyone on the planet at the moment.
  16. The only singer I can sort pick out is, sorta/kinda/maybe, Dean Martin.
  17. When you pray, it's talking to God. If God talks back, it's schizophrenia.
  18. If this is 'the way' you want to live the rest of your life, more power to you. However, I think you'll find saying "Yes, Dear" will eventually get under your skin and it will turn into something less loving. Something along the lines of, "F U, DEAR"
  19. .Doesn't sound to me like the start of a healthy relationship.
  20. I'm not a big country music fan, but didn't Garth Brooks do a song aboutt this?
  21. I haven't read the whole thread, but it seems to me, STFI has followed in the footsteps of TWI and become STFU?
  22. I'm not exactly sure of the quote, but someone once said, "All organizations have the seeds of death planted in them at their beginning", or something to that effect. You can be sure, whatever organization you belong to, there will come a day when that organization will no longer adhere to its 'mission statement'.
  23. Yes, it is, Cath. The lyrics go back to the 1500's, the melody even further. Seems the Germans were rather fond of evergreen trees and wrote many songs about them. :)
  24. Not to nitpick, , but shouldn't it be the Henny Youngman text?
