In light of the Interfaith Dialogue Discussion

The only requirement, Belle, is you have to LOVE Chinese food. -
Just remember, Kathy, the higher the ponytail, the less well thought of you will be (something about the higher the ponytail, the less intelligent the person wearing it)

And this may explain the Jewish penchant for Chinese food. :) -

Since we're talking about Genesis here, how about this thought. If you're going to take the story of Adam and Eve literally, it would seem to me God set up the world to be incestuous (if God is omniscient, and all. Or, did he wink at that provision to start the world). Since there were only two people at the start, Cain and Abel would had to have had sex with their sisters. Or, even more disgusting, they would have had to do it with their mother, Eve.

Well, ya know, there are some people who, if you had a videotape of Mr. Simpson killing Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman would STILL think he was framed. -

Well, Andy, you can't say THAT again. . Beyond the rim of the star-light. My love is wand'ring in star-flight I know he'll find in star-clustered reaches Love, strange love a star woman teaches. I know his journey ends never His star trek will go on forever. But tell him while he wanders his starry sea Remember, remember me. Remember, remember me. Gene Roddenberry wrote lyrics for the theme song in order to secure a partial writer's credit for the song. These lyrics were never recorded as part of the original theme song, and were thus never aired. However, the lyrics have been printed in several "TV Theme" songbooks over the years. Roddenberry's lyrics have also been included in recordings of the Star Trek theme by other artists, including the rock band Tenacious D, lounge band Love Jones, and Star Trek actress Nichelle Nichols. The Curse of Eve and the Healing of the World

Another view of this would be the Piers Anthony series, "The Incarnations Of Immortality". Abi and I read it over a period of a couple of months, and I would highly recommend it. The only downside to the series is, it was written as stand alone books, thus necessitating an almost unbearable amount of repetition. Other than that, it's a finely written series suggesting another view of 'the gods'. If you have the time, it's a great read. I would, however, caution it really isn't for the religiously entrenched. -
The Curse of Eve and the Healing of the World
Sushi replied to Abigail's topic in Doctrinal: Exploring the Bible
The author goes on to suggest, the story of Adam and Eve is NOT about people being punished for ONE mistake (which would be a bit harsh, in my estimation), but rather, a type of graduation. A graduation from being solely simple animals, mating only to reproduce, etc., to a knowledge of Good and Evil. To him, it is not about the fall of man, but the emergence of humanity. -
The Curse of Eve and the Healing of the World

This is from "How Good Do We Have To Be" by Harold Kushner. One theologian has pointed out the unusual Hebrew word used for pain in Gen. 3:16,17 when God decrees Adam's and Eve's fate is also used in Gen 6:6, to describe the pain GOD feels at seeing how badly his world has turned out. Could it be, that when God tells Adam and Eve that sexuality, parenthood and creativity will be painful, He is not so much punishing them as saying to them, "You ate of that tree, because you wanted to be like God, knowing Good and Evil? Well, you're about to find out frustrating is to be like God, to create something and then give up control of what you have created, to want something to turn out as perfectlyas you pictured it in your mind and then see how far short the reality falls of your original intention. There is more pain than you could ever imagine in knowing about Good and Evil." For those of a Judeo-Christian background, I would recommend the above book. It just may shed some light on that story. Then again, it may not. -

*****POSTED BY ABIGAIL - SORRY*********** However, Sushi agrees with what I said. Well, I just sent an email to Paw on this very topic. Something I have probably only done or 3 times in the nearly 6 years I have been here. "by and large the discussions here, while sometimes dry and scholarly, have stayed on topic, and opinions have been backed up, either by scripture, or by logical thinking. There have been actual discussions here. and "While there isn't supposed to be personal attacks anywhere on GS, the Doctrinal forum has gotten really bad lately." Agreed and agreed - up until a certain poster took an interest in these forums anyway. Why is it that said poster can make off color jokes about "Jews, Wiccans, and Spiritualists", make references to the "brown spot on people's heads", infer that certain posters are lovers, and derail topic after topic after topic with off-topic remarks and insults, while never "document[ing] or at least rationally discuss[ing] your position" Yet, when I take some of those off topic remarks and try to have a doctrinal discussion about them without derailing the original thread, they are moved? I am sorry, but I very strongly feel that the moderators are not doing their jobs in a just manner and the result is people are leaving. I was unwilling to even consider doing that until this most recent moderator decision, but now I am thinking very strongly about it. I understand that what you and Paw do is a tough job, a time consuming job, and one for which you do not get paid for. What I do not understand is why said poster's personal and off-topic attacks are allowed to continue unchecked, but a discussion about those off-topic comments are not allowed.

I read in the paper the other day, now that he's dead, the feds are considering expunging his record. This means, the people he screwed over will have NO recourse. Lovely.

No, Rick, the song was actually Death Don't Have No Mercy. :) And now for something COMPLETELY different..............(When I was playing guitar, it took me about two months to be able to butcher this song half way decently ) HERE!

Okay, all questions have been answered. Now for the stupid trivia part. Jack Casady, the bass player, would keep time by raising his eyebrows, instead of tapping his foot. I know, you're all going to sleep better tonight knowing that.
-
It's probably a moot point, but no one's said who the major group is yet. And, I have a stupid bit of trivia about the bass player (I know, you're shocked).

Rumor has it, some people have found Noah's Ark. Thought this would have generated more interest. I'm a rank heretic, and even *I* found it interesting

This one's for you, Rick. At least two of the three people on this recording were part of a major group (who were they) in the 60's. The bass player did not join the group until two months after their original show. Who are they, and what group did they form? HERE!
