  1. I never said "Christianity changes", although, I believe that what we perceive to be "Christianity" certainly does change with passing time. Likewise, what we perceive to be the defining elements of a marriage may be miles away from the perceptions people held 2,000 years ago. One of the most obvious differences is the practice of arranged marriages. Marrying for love would surely have seemed quite foreign to people thousands of years ago when people entered marriage primarily as a business arrangement. This is why I said I think it is ludicrous to try to forcibly extract parallels that don't exist.
  2. An alternative to canning is "blanch and freeze", which we did in Fellow Laborers. We had 50 people to feed. Here's a link. http://ohioline.osu.edu/hyg-fact/5000/5333.html
  3. Trying to compare marriage in the 1st century to marriage in the 21st century is ludicrous at best.
  4. Ask her how she feels about plagiarism. Most of VPW's "works" are nothing more than flat out plagiarisms of people such as BG Leonard, JE Stiles, EW Bullinger, etc. Some of his books, when compared word for word, are virtually duplicated from the works of others. There is lots of documentation here on GSC. Show her the article that depicts the actual errors in PFAL. http://www.greasespotcafe.com/main2/editor...ant-living.html Also, show her the threads that deal with the doctrinal errors in PFAL. http://www.greasespotcafe.com/main2/editor...nal-errors.html and the discussion of Wierwilles "Blue Book". My guess, though, is that she will have some lame excuse for why it was okay for Wierwille to use the works of others as though they were his own.
  5. I'm not sure what I can tell you that you haven't already deduced on your own. Wayfers are programmed to make a deliberate effort to avoid consideration of anything that contradicts their framework of beliefs. It's right there in session #7 of the PFAL class. I guess I don't need to tell you that. You are having a personal experience with it. All I can really add is that if someone doesn't want your help, you can't help them.
  6. Plagued by a series of recent layoffs, Walmart announced yet another round of job cuts. ("reorganization") HERE
  7. If they do keep files on former members (and please note, I'm not saying they do.) I would think their concern would be more with "who KNOWS what?" rather than "who DID what?". Mine wouldn't fill the back side of a postage stamp.
  8. I've Got The Key To The Highway.
  9. Interesting how you can say it but not hear it when the shoe is on the other foot.
  10. Should this same standard apply to those who never experienced communal life in The Way?
  11. Muddy Waters and Eric Clapton
  12. It's quite ironic, I think, how indignant you, yourself, become when people call your attention to your own lack of personal involvement in programs like the Way Corps, WOW and Fellow Laborers. And yet, you insist you know what must have gone on in those programs even though you admit you never participated in those programs or even beyond the local level. Kinda looks like the pot calling the kettle black.
  13. "You can't go beyond what you're taught." Not only is it not Biblical, it contradicts logic, common sense and the history of the advancement of Mankind.
  14. That's like a dog chasing its tail, Mr. B. The simple fact is, many people got involved because they saw it as a way to help their fellow man. I think VPW, in contrast, got into it for purely selfish reasons.
  15. When I was in TWI, you weren't supposed to date or marry anyone who was not in TWI. Now take that a step further. If you were Way Corps, you weren't supposed to date or marry outside the WC. If you were Fellow Laborer, --------You get the picture, I'm sure. You may laugh at us who took these things seriously if it makes you feel better. I assure you, though, many of us placed a great deal of misguided importance on this.
  16. I don't understand that statement.
  17. "vpw was teaching the trees when he was a kid." That's what he claimed. Of course, he actually "borrowed" that story from Billy Graham. "people stay in twi until it doesn't give them what they want. people want what vp promised." I personally believe it is much more complex than that. That explanation only accounts for people who were "me" oriented. I believe there were many who weren't. ("Me" oriented, that is) "so vpw raped women? the kids don't care . . ." Do you think they would, perhaps, care a bit more if it had been their sister, mother, daughter or wife that had been raped? In fact, it may well have happened to a family member.
  18. Why would you accept it to have any Biblical significance if it can't be backed by "chapter and verse" or at least something of Biblical relevance to support it? By the way, Wierwille did, indeed, say "You can't go beyond what you are taught.", in addition to the stated quote involving "believing". One such quote is on an SNS tape and has been documented here many times.
  19. ************************************************* Advanced Class, 1971--page 31 Gifts Of Healings What it is: "It is our taking the place of Jesus Christ here upon Earth." "---our taking the place of Jesus Christ------" ***************************************************** According to Wierwille, we had to take his place-----because, according to the AC class, he is absent! (How much plainer can it be?)
  20. I think I somewhat understand you. However, I don't think that accurately describes the situation. Naturally, we wanted to get to a place where our communication with God was intimate and readily accessible. That, I think, was what many hoped would happen in the Advanced Class. I don't see that as an effort to get God to love us anymore as individuals. Likewise, the big push toward doing things for eternal rewards came a bit later, maybe the late 70s or early 80s. I think some of us thought of our efforts as being more on the order of a spiritual Peace Corps. I'm not saying we were correct, just that, that might better describe the mindset we had. Peace Corps
