  1. I'm lucky. We have an old fashioned produce store here. They grow tomatoes year round in their greenhouses, and they're as good in the dead of winter as in the summer. I buy all my seed from them when I'm getting ready to plant my spring garden. My gorgeous 'maters are flowering already!!! I can't wait!
  2. So that's what that weird smell is in my son's room... Seriously though, ever seen a banana under a bed 6 days later? Not a pretty sight. Only way it was ID'd as a banana is the peel. Taught me to watch my 4 year old a bit closer.
  3. That is hilarious!
  4. Um, shift, tell me where I said I was 'made to sleep with him'? I said I was encouraged to go sleep in his sleeping bag with him. Way to twist my words. And no, I did not say his name, and I still won't. But since you've been around so long, surely you can figure out my age and narrow down the choices of boys. I lucked out that I had my period, and that's nasty to teenage boys, otherwise I know what would have happened. Believe me, sleeping bags all around us were hopping. As for twi never putting up with homosexuality, they certainly didn't seem to mind when an adult woman was waaaaay too friendly with an 11 year old girl. So shift, your experience and mine might have been different. If so, count yourself lucky. Oh wait, luck shares a root with Lucifer, musn't use the word. How about blessed! Hope you can count your socks blessed off.
  5. Not sure when we got in, I was born in '72, and just kind of seems like we were always in. I think I've heard my parents say 74 or 75ish, not certain. In 81, I was organizing Children's Fellowship for all my friends on Saturday mornings in Baird, TX. They came once, and I got beat up after school a lot after that. In 82, I took PFAL the first time in Abilene, where we were Home WOW's. We lived right by Abilene Christian University, and used to do a lot of witnessing on the campus. We had classes in our home several times that year. I took Advanced the next year. I think I was one of the youngest ever to make it through Advanced. I was a smart kidlet lol. I'm not sure exactly when we got out. I know we attended fellowships in Little Rock in 85, then in 86 we moved to south Arkansas. We had some fellowships in our house with one other family and a couple of single people, but I'm not sure if we were still 'in'. I got the impression there was some 'trouble' in Little Rock. So, 10 years for sure, probably a year or two more.

    Tax software ...

I'm self-employed, and have used TaxAct for the last 4 years. It does a very thorough interview. I've been very happy with it, and would recommend it.
  7. I'm so old that my daddy used to send me to the corner store for his ciggys when I was 8. It was legal then! I also remember the stations signing off at night. I remember when cartoons were only on on Saturday morning. I remember when home satellite systems were several thousand dollars and had a huge dish that would take up the whole back yard. I remember when kids didn't have cell phones, stayed out all day long, and had to be in by the time the streetlights came on, or they got a spanking. Yes, a good old fashioned trip to the woodshed was encouraged by law enforcement.
  8. Hubby and I did the salt covenant. Here's an article about it. http://www.angelfire.com/super2/redhorse/C...gs/teach08.html Congrats on the wedding! I hope you will be as happy as my husband and me!
  9. Ooooh these are delish! INGREDIENTS 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon baking powder 1 cup butter, softened 1 1/2 cups white sugar 1 egg 1 teaspoon vanilla extract DIRECTIONS Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). In a small bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in egg and vanilla. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients. Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls, and place onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden. Let stand on cookie sheet two minutes before removing to cool on wire racks. If you take them out at 8 minutes, they're not quite browned, and they are very soft. At 10 minutes, they are crispy on the outside and chewy inside. I took them out at 8 minutes and pressed a Hershey's Kiss into the center. ETA: These would need to be chilled for a few hours to be able to cut into shapes I think. They definitely aren't shapeable when freshly mixed. They are so light and buttery though that I don't care if they're just round!
  10. Aw, sad to hear that about Fred, I liked him. I do remember Jack, and now I remember the sisters name, Mindy. I'll try looking up Ellie and seeing what I come up with. I always wondered why Fred and Ellie split, now I guess I know. I know Rachel went WOW after that, and I'm pretty sure she was still in when I last talked to her. I got the feeling that's why we didn't talk anymore once she realized I was out. Thanks for sparking my memory!
  11. That's right! THAT's what the white was! I did that, and have totally forgotten about that! That just made me chuckle. My dad used to get so mad at me for doing that. Thanks for the laugh!
  12. I am passing this on to you because it definitely works and we could all use a little more calmness in our lives. By following simple advice heard on the Dr. Phil show, you too can find inner peace. Dr Phil proclaimed, "The way to achieve inner peace is to finish all the things you have started and have never finished." So I looked around my house to see all the things I started and hadn't finished, and before leaving the house this morning, I finished off a bottle of Merlot, a bottle of Zinfandel, a bottle of Bailey's Irish Cream, a bottle of Kahlua, a package of Oreos, the remainder of my old Prozac prescription with the last of the scotch, the rest of the cheesecake, some Doritos, and a box of chocolates. You have no idea how freaking good I feel right now.
  13. Well, I knew I was still a dork!
  14. hehehe, only I would get a kick out of this... Can't figure out how to embed the video, anyone care to give me a quick tutorial?
  15. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against homosexuals. In fact, my best friend is a lesbian, as is my favorite aunt, and two of my sisters. I love them all, but don't agree with their lifestyle. They all know that, and love me anyway. My BFF and I often go out with our good friend, her roommate, a gay guy, to Starbucks and have coffee and conversation. We've all been friends for 25 years now, and love each other dearly. I just happen to be the straight one lol. They were both in my wedding and rejoiced with me at finding the man of my dreams. I know my experiences as a child could have happened TWI or no. I know that kind of crap goes on everywhere. The thing is that NOBODY ever tried to help me. Even when I told adults, they just said I was lucky to have such a sweet friend to take such good care of me and love me. I was scared to tell anyone about the boy because his parents were high-ups, adn I thought I would get in trouble. Now that I'm an adult, I see how screwed up the whole situation was. I probably should have gone to my parents, but she was their friend, and I didn't think I would be believed. I know better now, especially with what happened with her later on. My mom is still in touch with her now ex-husband, and he's told me mom some things about that lady. I think my point of telling my story here is just so maybe someone will believe me, and I can quit being the victim. In some ways I still feel like that little kid who was abised and molested. I just wonder how many other little girls went through that because everyone else just saw it as 'being a loving friend'. Anyhow, thanks for the warm welcome, that cheesecake looks divine!
  16. I grew up in TWI until I was about 16 or so. I have no idea why my family left or was forced out, I don't even know which. We went WOW to Abilene, TX twice (home WOW? something like that) in the early 80's. I was going through an old jewelry box the other day looking for earrings for my daughter and came across my mini-WOW pin. Talk about a blast from the past. From there, we went to Lake Charles, LA. I remember taking a Grayhound bus by myself at 13 from there to NK for Teen Summer School. I have the group picture somewhere. I really enjoyed parts of TSS, especially the greased pig contest and the concerts, and picking fresh cherries off the trees by the dorms. But that summer was where my comfort level in TWI really went south. I had a 'boyfriend' there, and the adults encouraged me to sleep with him in his sleeping bag. He was the son of some fairly high-ups, and really intimidating. It was difficult not to go along with everything he wanted me to do, and some of it I only got out of because I had my period. I also remember being sent into a dark closet to SIT continuously until I could be heard clearly from outside the closet because I was too timid and not filled with the Spirit. I learned very quickly to make up a few SIT's and Prophecies and committed them to memory so I could fool them into thinking I finally figured it out so they wouldn't send me to the closet again. I sat through PFAL so many times in my youth that I still know the song word for word, and could probably teach the darn class myself now if I hadn't burned my syllabus. Same with the advanced class. Here's a question I have long wondered, that maybe someone here can answer. I was just a kid, so I really don't know. Did TWI encourage homosexuality or pedophelia? I remember one adult woman who always wanted to hold my hand and kiss me while we were walking around at ROA. I never remember anyone telling her to leave me alone, or chastising her for behavior, but rather telling her what a sweet friend she is to take such good care of me. She'd always go with me to the showers. It always felt so freakin creepy. And that stupid armband, what was that about? I remember white, yellow, and blue, different years. It was always so hot at ROA, and that band was itchy. I'm now a fairly well-adjusted adult, almost 36, very happily married, three kidlets ages 15, 12, and 3. We're in southeast Arkansas and sometimes attending a Baptist church. I look forward to getting to know y'all!
  17. Last time I saw/heard from Rebecca, we were about 12 years old in Abilene, TX. Her parents are Ron and Leslie, and I know she had a few younger siblings. Anyone know her?
  18. She lived in NK. Her mom is Eleanor, 2 brothers, Paul, and I can't remember the older ones name, and a sister. We lost touch about 15 years ago while she was WOW in Minnesota maybe? Anyone know how she is, where she is, and if she's still in?
