Oh, come on! Say "deaflash." George

Not true (at least concerning TWI). A central teaching of TWI is the future resurrection. (Resurrections, actually, with the pre-tribulation meeting in the air with the Lord of the Christians -- raised from the dead, or, if still living, changed -- preceding the resurrections referred to in the Book of Revelation, which pertain to non-Christians.) TWI teaching is that the dead are completely inanimate (non-sentient) from the point of death until resurrection. I hold to most of the core teachings of TWI, as I believe that the Bible teaches the unity (non-trinity) of God, the perfect humanity of Jesus, the dead being non-sentient until the return of Jesus, as well as some other doctrines. I was raised Roman Catholic, and was active in that church for many years, but now it just seems paganistic to me. Soory. George

Obviously, much of TWI thought can't be confirmed in Christian "orthodoxy," because the main underlying themes of TWI (no Trinity, dead not alive, etc.) contradict traditional Christianity. Scriptures are explained according to a different paradigm. I'm not sure I would classify Wayspeak as argot so much as just a different understanding of the same phrases. I'm interested to see what TWI doxis and praxis (teaching and practice, for the rest of us) you consider Gnostic. My reading of Gnostic literature shows a divine Jesus (often to the point of denying his humanity); a belief that the physical world is an illusion -- all is spirit; and a myriad of angelic powers, none of which would be considered as part of TWI theology. God obviously also told the borrowers to ignore all His admonishments against debt. George

I guess that means it's a Madonna song, but I don't recognize it. WAG: "Like a Virgin"? George -

"Acting captain's personal log, stardate 54277.3. My first day in command has been challenging, but I've loved every minute of it. I can't help feeling that this was something I was born to do." "I scanned you." "You scanned me?" "In the Jeffries tube. Your blood pressure and neurotransmitter readings indicated a state of arousal." "It was hot!" George -

Basic rules for all the "Name That..." threads: Correct guesser gets to post the next clues. No googling to find an answer, though the puzzle poster may google for clues to give. It's usually best to wait for confirmation that you've guessed correctly, but if you're ablsolutely sure, you can go on and post a new one. If no one gets the right answer in a day or two, post some more clues. Glad to have you aboard, Twinky! Don't forgeet to check out the other games, too! George

Happy Birthday, Rick! Keepin' it real, keepin' it blue. George

Add those rules, and the country will be too drunk to worry about the war or the economy! George

Name that Star Trek Episode

Okay. Was this the NG episode where Worf has visions of Kahless, and goes to a Klingon holy place to check it out. "Kahless" does appear, but he's actually a clone, and so has no actual memories of events attributed to Kahless. George -
At the risk of sounding like a "Wierwille apologist," I contend that in a very real way our live ARE molded by our believing, in the sense that what one believes determines how he will act. (Not having a "Blue Book" on hand, I'm only responding to the quotation you gave, not the whole context.) As James puts it, "Faith without works is dead." We demonstrate in our lives what we believe (our faith) by how we act (our works). So, it IS important to control our thinking to believe God's promises. Only then will we act accordingly, and see the promises come to fruition. This does NOT mean, however, that my believing controls the world around me. George

Yes you may. George

I'm not particularly good at breaking up a post into several quotes, so I'm going to interject my thoughts here in boldface. George

I suppose that if your relationship with God is ONLY "Gimme, gimme, gimme," then you have a problem. As Oldies points out, there's nothing wrong with going to your Father for something He has to give you. On the other hand, do you praise Him. love Him, glorify Him? Those ALSO have to be part of the equation. George

I don't believe that anyone ever did himself any good by getting drunk. (The Bible does allow heavy drinking as a palliative for the deathly ill, but I'm referring to the rest of us who are in reasonably good shape.) At least minimize the damage to yourself and others. Drink a lot of water, and sleep it off. (And NOT behind the wheel.) George

I forgot about this! "Fuel status says we turn back now." "Wait a minute. Fuel status? You have a reserve, don't you?" "Yes, sir. I've got a ten minute reserve... but I'm not allowed to invade that except in time of war." "My Morse is so rusty, I could be sending him dimensions on playmate of the month." "You're afraid of our fleet. Well, you should be. Personally, I'd give us one chance in three. More tea anyone?" George
