  1. Great news, you guys! May you have many happy years! George
  2. 37-2. Cheers to UNC. Truly a fine team. Obviously, I'm disappointed by the outcome, but what a great game! Fighting back from a 15-point deficit to tie it in the closing minutes. The game in doubt down to the last 15 seconds. I imagine that Illinois and UNC will meet in next year's Big Ten/ACC "Shootout," so be ready for payback! In the meantime, all you Illini out there, join me in singing "Illinois Loyalty" and "Oskee-Wow-Wow": ILLINOIS LOYALTY We're loyal to you Illinois, We're "Orange and Blue," Illinois, We'll back you to stand 'Gainst the best in the land, For we know you have sand, Illinois, Rah! Rah! So crack out that ball Illinois, We're backing you all Illinois; Our team is our fame protector, On! boys, for we expect a vict'ry from you Illinois! Che-he! Che-ha! Che-ha-ha-ha! Go Illini go! Che-he! Che-ha! Che-ha-ha-ha! Go Illini go! Illinois! Illinois! Illinois! Fling out that dear old flag of Orange and Blue, Lead on your sons and daughters, fighting for you; Like men of old, on giants placing reliance, shouting defiance Oskee wow-wow! Amid the broad green plains that nourish our land, For honest Labor and for Learning we stand, And unto thee we pledge our heart and hand, Dear Alma Mater Illinois. OSKEE-WOW-WOW Old Princeton yells her Tiger, Wisconsin, her Varsity And they give the same old Rah, Rah, Rah, At each University, But the yell that always thrills me And fills my heart with joy, Is the good old Oskee-Wow-Wow, That they yell at Illinois. Os-kee-Wow-Wow, Illinois, Our eyes are all on you. Oskee-Wow-Wow, Illinois, Wave your Orange and your Blue. Rah! Rah! When the team trots out before you, Every man stand up and yell, Back the team to victory, Os-kee-Wow-Wow. Illinois. And one last tidbit for those who want to know more about Chief Illiniwek: The Chief Thanks, Illini, for a great season! :)--> George
  3. Maybe they'll just call it a tie after three overtimes! Thanks for the gracious comments, Oen. I've seen the Illini play inconsistently, too. I think the real key to their success this season has been team play. They don't usually get more than one scorer with 20+ points, but they often have four or five with 10+. George
  4. Sounds like Lake Daly (sp?). Definitely cute, and famous for her 15 minutes. George
  5. I used to listen to Dr. Price all the time right after I took PFAL (1978). Really enjoyed his stuff. I doubt he took PFAL or had the materials, though. Definitely trinitarian. Most of PFAL can be found in other sources. ;)--> George
  6. 12/20. Being a chemist helped with a couple of them. George
  7. The Tar Heels have indeed proven that there is an ACC team that could compete in the Big Ten! It's great that the two best teams in the NCAA will actually meet in the final. (I doubt that that happens often.) See you Monday. George
  8. 37-1! It's nice having essentially a home-court advantage throughout the tournament. (There are probably as many Illinois alumni in the St. Louis area as there are in Chicago.) Shut down Louisville in the second half. Great shooting from the arc. Bring on Michigan State (or MAYBE UNC)! :D--> George P.S.: 37 wins in a season ties the NCAA record!
  9. I seem to recall that the lead singer for Heart (or maybe the whole group?) took PFAL. Of course, none of them were in the classes I sat in! George
  10. Yeah, Pirate, a bunch of numbnuts (in Arizona, I think, NOT Illinois) have been trying to do away with the Chief. As it happens, present students, staff, and alumni are strongly IN FAVOR of the Chief. The Trustees kept trying to vote Illiniwek away, but there has always been enough grass-roots support to keep him. I guarantee that if the Trustees cave to PC pressure, I'll never donate again. I remember the first Illinois football game I went to. At halftime, after the Marching Illini had done all their fancy routines, they formed a large block at one end of the field. I hears a few people start to chant, "Chief! Chief!"; but I had no idea what was going on. Then the band started to play "Os-kee-wow-wow" and march downfield. Chief Illiniwek burst out of the block and led the band downfield with a number of stylized, but authentic, Indian dances. The whole stadium went nuts! I still get goosebumps thinking about it! As the band marched downfield, they actually were splitting out the letters I-L-L-I-N-I, so at the end of the song, the word covered the field, with Chief Illiniwek standing at the far goal line in a victory pose. I can understand that some team names and symbols might be demeaning. "Resdskins," for example. Stanford, and now Syracuse, have changed their team names. But I see no reason to eliminate the proud symbol, Illiniwek. For crying out loud, Illinois is just the French spelling of Illini! George
  11. Though I spend most of my time in the forums, I'd probably look over the documents, etc., more if there were some notification of updates. (Instead of looking through them all to see if something has been added.) Thanks for all the work and love you put into this, Paw. George
  12. Since I won't get back to a computer before tomorrow morning, I'm going to assume I got Steve!'s clue and propose this one: The dream is always the same. George
  13. "Signs"? (I think it also appears in "Scary Movie 3" in the "Signs" parody.) George
  14. Raf is correct. For those of you who haven't seen "Amazon Women on the Moon," it's an anthology of short, comic skits loosely tied around someone watching a late night movie. As the opening credits state, it stars "a whole bunch of actors" including Arsenio Hall, Ralph Bellamy, Rosanna Arquette, Henry de Silva, David Allan Grier, Michele Pfeiffer, Andrew Dice Clay, Kelly Preston..... Check it out! Oh, and there's a whole skit (with Carrie Fisher) after the "final" credits, so don't miss it. ;)--> I was actually hoping to give a couple more lines before it was guessed, but good work! And I promise not to cheat anymore. :o--> George
  15. Hey, just a few miles south of you, we in Brazoria County not only have all four poisonous snakes indigenous to the US, but we're also the most fire-ant-infested county in the country. At least the "killer bees" never took hold. And the Disastros do have great pitching, but I doubt they have the hitting to make it to the pennant this year. George
  16. Sorry, Raf, no Ghostbusters. Here's another line from the same movie: "Ain't no Thelma here, man." George P.S. A line like "Heroin! Peppermint-flavored heroin!" is asking to be "googled."
  17. Cary Grant in "Charade." I cheated by "googling" this. Please forgive me. Try this one: "You're the best, Ray!" George
  18. I had a friend down here telling me about a dessert she made with "balled milk." At least that's what it sounded like; I knew it couldn't have been "bald" milk. After a stare from her that would have withered a redwood, I realized that it was "boiled" milk!! :D--> George
  19. Actually...it was Michigan STATE. :)--> George
  20. Thanks, smurfette! Just two games to go! (Hopefully, no more of this down-by-15-with-four-minutes-to-go nonsense! Sheeesh!) George
  21. Bull Durham? George (I hope it's right. I've been trying to get in, but every time I actually know the movie, someone else gets it before me.)
  22. 36-1! At least I have a week to get my heart re-started! :D--> I knew that Arizona was going to be tough. I got back from fellowship this evening just in time to catch the last five minutes. I doubt I would have survived the whole game! Now to see how the other Big Tenners do. See you in St. Louis! George
