  1. Snowing?!? Heck, my a/c just came on.
  2. I spoke with him the other day... he's alive and well and enjoying the weather now that we're finally no longer getting high temps exceeding 100 degrees (F). I think the time reference Mr. Strange made was about the Texas BBQ...
  3. Now I thought that the batter could only take first (in the event he is not thrown out at first) IF the base was OPEN to begin with... IF that IS still true, then it shouldn't matter what happens to the ball when it gets thrown to first base. In which case, the batter is out, and the game is over. Home team loses. However, IF the batter actually does get to run, he obviously did not get thrown out, the two runs score and the home team wins. Of course, I may be wrong. I don't get so worked up any more. I'm obviously still interested and therefore involved in the forum, but it doesn't matter to me if anyone disagrees or agrees with me. However, I might have issues to deal with once the results are known after the election. :) Buck/McCarver said it was changed -- regarding the WS (and maybe other playoff games) only last winter. So, if this had happened in any prior WS, the resolution would have been different.
  4. I kept thinking they can't END the WS with a rain shortened 2-1 game. It was raining pretty steady and I think Buck/McCarver said it was 39 degrees (F). That's just plain miserable. So, once they finished the half inning after Upton scored the tying run, they did the only thing they could. So, I guess we'll find out when the game resumes... when they resume the game.
  5. I'm pretty sure he's not still there... I understand he's in touch with people who come to the cafe here...
  6. The solution to your problem -- Tivo (aka DVR). It was a very good game.
  7. Yeah it was definitely an unorthodox infield alignment... didn't work, but once they got a guy on third with no outs, the game was all but over... so it was certainly worth a try. I liked it, even though it didn't work.
  8. Don't forget that Grandpa is still younger than you (or me)! And yes, I'm thinking that Upton kid is pretty good... got some awesome wheels.
  9. It's not just you. "Blaming" is not healthy TEAM behavior. I'm certain that most GMs share that particular view. It's not the only factor, but it is certainly not a positive in Billingsley's favor.
  10. As far as I'm concerned, you're WELCOME to Peavy!
  11. Witness to Jonestown is a two-hour documentary that will premier on MSNBC on November 9.Witness to JonestownPreview clip below
  12. Unless we have a repeat of 2000. I can't imagine catching up to excie...
  13. That guy is Kerwin Danley, who played college ball (outfield) at San Diego State University with Mark Grace. He was also at first base for game one (and missed the balk call). I think Danley now lives in California, but used to live in the Phoenix area. In the mid-1990s, I went to the same gym he did (at least he did during the off season). My daughter was classmates with the daughter of a gal that Danley dated for a few years. I never really had much interaction with him... him being a big musclebound athletic type... and I was just going to get exercise... The rumors of his demise have been greatly exaggerated. He's alive and well, living in the Phoenix area, has season tickets to the Dbacks and fills in occasionally for Mark Grace when Grace goes on assignment for Fox Sports. Substituting for Grace in the TV broadcast booth. The bright side of that kind of deal for the Dodgers and Manny for me is that might make it difficult for the Dodgers to afford enough of a team around Manny to be much better than they were this year.

    Ok

Of course... pawtucket said that it doesn't show up on the main forum page when one is not logged in. But if you already know the URL to get in, you can get in without clicking on a link on the main forum page. Duh... wow, how many days did it take me to figure that out?

    LCM Today

With this insight from Potato, I agree... and will add that I think it's highly unlikely he lurks here. Given his narcissism (can any of us who knew him doubt that he is pathologically narcissistic?), the need to gaze at oneself in the glory of how one believes one actually is, it's undoubtedly FAR too emotionally dangerous for him to willingly view, let alone acknowledge what others say critically about him.
  16. I don't know how much trouble there actually was, but there WAS talk of block voting allegations when the 9th corps was in residence for its first year. That was the year that Nancy Landon Kassebaum was first elected to the US Senate from Kansas. I don't remember what the narrative was, but I do remember we were encouraged to vote for her, but the words spoken about Bob Dole were not so kind. He apparently had some problem with religious freedom, or so it was said. Dole, however, was not standing for reelection that year. For those who do not recall, Ms. Kassebaum WAS a republican.
  17. That was n't the only mistake the Phillies overcame... bottom of the first, Akinora's hit seemed like Hamels should have been able to get to first base for the toss... obviously, Howard wasn't fast enough on his own to beat Akinora. But that DP on the next batter wiped that out... BUT... it was still a good, close game. I can't imagine the Phils being able to keep the Rays' offense subdued very long.

    Ok

    I've wondered the same thing.
  19. Here's to a 2009 WS featuring Texas vs. Arizona!!!
  20. Hey Mstar... take a deep breath... it was a great season to get this far.
  21. I just hope you're emotionally prepared for what now has to be the outside possibility that the Red Sox will lose. :)
  22. Apparently I turned my TV on right as they had it fixed...
  23. Certainly couldn't beat that game for dramatic impact!
  24. No need to say ANYTHING... at least until the end of game 6! :)
