Hey Phil, I don't understand your use of the word "cosmology." That's not the first time Schilling's been involved in one of those... he had a no-hitter working in San Diego when he was with the Dbacks (I forget which year) and the Padres' catcher put down a bunt that NObody expected, so he got the single. Brenly called it chicken-sNit (with an H), but what can you do. Nobody bobbled the ball, however... and the Dbacks still won that game.

Oh come on Simon... you and I have talked about this kind of thing before. Pitchers are typically given the benefit of the doubt in fielding decisions like that... from a fielding perspective that is... it makes perfect sense to me why it should have been ruled a hit. And Sabathia is okay with the ruling... it's Ned Yost that was whining about it... and Joe Morgan and Jon Miller complained about it several times... It was a hit as far as I'm concerned. With the CF the official scorer has more of a judgment call... however, the pitcher getting bent out of shape about it probably wasn't his best move, especially if it took him a while to regain his composure.

Bless your heart (and your physical and emotional health all around)! If you can do that without getting burned out, you will add sooooooooo much to the world and to the lives of those girls. Volunteering at the child crisis shelter, for me is tremendously rewarding... but I only can take one day a week and that's with preschoolers... teen girls are as challenging as life gets. Speaking of Pedroia, the Dbacks picked up a used model of the same player today... they got Eckstein!!! That came as quite a surprise to me... I hope he still has plenty of spark and plenty of hustle left in him.

Sleep is number one. Do NOT let yourself become sleep deprived. Sleep deprivation will aggrevate every potential problem you face, most significantly, your physical and emotional health. Exercise is also fundamental. At minimum, find time for walking. There are plenty of other possibilities, but those two things are essential.

I agree completely. Daren Sutton, one of the two Dbacks TV guys (main guys, others fill in when Grace is doing Fox Saturday games) PLAYFULLY got on Scully's case a few weeks ago... but made it very clear it was only playfully, because, as you said (and SUTTON KNOWS) You do NOT disrespect Vin Scully. And Sutton and Grace are VERY playful during game broadcasts...

Manny didn't do half bad tonight... 4-4-4 and scored two of LAs 3 runs. He had two strikes on him with two outs in the 9th. Instead of being the last out, he doubled... only prolonging the agony. Yeah, wasn't she just nominated to be Vice-president or something?

"Baseball is a game of adjustments." I don't know who said it first, but it's said a lot these days. Replay is just one more thing to adjust to... and WE have to adjust to it at least as much as the players and coaches and umpires. And we will... eventually. But I understand the need to vent about it.

It is national, but not with as much emphasis as it must be in your community. How a mother (or a father) could do anything like this is just beyond my comprehension. Imagine how bad Caylee's grandmother must be feeling now.
