  1. Sorry if this is off topic... but Wal-Mart's lack of ethics seem to be the flow here... Our neighborhood WM has 30 some checkouts... At the busiest times there MAY BE 8 open.. The return area usually has a LONG LINE with ONE worker During any of my visits, there is ALWAYS an area that is in DIRE NEED of cleaning/attention The employees look poor and depraved, needing clothes, good nutrition and dental work I ALWAYS make it a point to SPEAK WITH THE EMPLOYEES… asking how they like their job? The answer is ALWAYS THE SAME They would rather work someplace else, but this is all they can find right now The greeters KNOW the manager SHOULD hire on MORE WORKERS... and they are AWARE why there are so little workers and hours given... The Bottle Return is at the front of the store, the greeter there seems EMBARRASED at the FILTHY condition of that area... I've even heard apologies made... blaming management for NOT DOING THEIR JOB… again, NOT GIVING ENOUGH HOURS to enough people... This seems like a big ol' BOIL just about ready to POP! I'm going to call the Local Union and see what can be done... wish me luck
  2. QUOTE Now -- if there was an American company producing these jeans (on OUR soil, with OUR labor), I wouldn't hesitate for a minute spending more money on them. Since Wal-Mart is SO BIG, they are bullying companies into selling their products to THEM at an even deeper discount, because they buy SO MUCH! Smaller companies buy the same, made overseas 'stuff', but can't sell it that cheap because: 1. They didn't buy as much as Wal-Mart and don't qualify for the deepest discount 2. They actually pay their employees MORE 3. They offer benefits to their employees This cost's the employer more, and is reflected in their prices... So, the higher price we'd pay at a different store will more than likely benefit THE EMPLOYEES~ It's time for Wal-Mart employees to demand better conditions Put the bug in enough 'employee ears'... I think they'd agree. Wouldn't it be illegal for Wal-Mart to fire someone for wanting to be Union? This would draw national attention... and give some relief to our economy! I understand CoolChef... IBEW #357 here
  3. What name/names does TWI use for corporate/business dealings? Homeowners can be searched on the assessors page for that city/township and see if they own any... Toledo, Ohio is in Lucas County... but who's to say he lives there and not a neighboring city/county?
  4. Let's see.... low prices/convenience vs. ethics I do NOT agree with the treatment or rather lack of it, of Wal-Mart’s employees, and it's maddening to see the extravagant lifestyle Wal-Mart owners live, at the expense of their workers. As far as spending a little more.... a little here and there add up to quite a bit, sometimes making a big difference for many families. People want and item for the least amount possible... It seems that the majority of the USA want the best deal, not really thinking about the ‘real’ cost of it~ This is affecting our economy in a negative way... I KNOW! :( Let's see... how could we force Wal-Mart to go UNION By getting a few workers to vote it in? That would ensure them some excellent health benefits and pay Can they have a written agreement with the employee to NOT vote in the Union?.... hmmmmm
  5. PinkLady, so sorry to hear about this abuse with your young son... Death to those that harm our children in this way is the ONLY sentence that seems appropriate! The Teachings of The Way International lives via the teachings offered in many groups... So do the thoughts and teachings of Martin Luther... Interesting History~
  6. My Dad, who NEVER liked to offend the cook, had a funny thing to say when something was served that he didn't really care for: "It's Good If You Like It"... accompanied by a sneaky little grin I heard that comment ONCE after making a pizza, from scratch... with LOTS OF BROCCOLI and other veggies on it...
  7. ...sad that so many who gave their LIVES, were LEFT/ABANDONDED, seemingly w/out a second thought! Yet at least ONE very high on the ladder person RECEIVES 'different' treatment The 'rain' on the unjust is alive and well for viewing at The Way~
  8. Well... I'm going to since they caught this guy 'red-handed' There SHOULD be some FEAR in the mind of someone who's going to mess with other people's children! In our zip code we have 94 registered sex offenders (32% pedophiles), right next to us there are 150 offenders (30% pedophiles) these cities are small! MANY parents think the area is safe, and don't keep a real close eye on their children. I watched the other day, while an older man offered cigarettes to young boys, between 11-13 years old. (he didn't offer anything to the older boys...) I called the police THREE times, and all they did was drive by... they NEVER physically came into the skate park and questioned the man. I WATCHED HIM THERE FOR TWO HOURS! It turns out, this guy fits the description of a convicted sex offender VICTIMS 13-15... THERE WAS/IS A WARRANT OUT FOR HIS ARREST... I would have LOVED to tackle this guy to the ground, BLOODY HIS NOSE AND GIVE HIM A FEW WELTS… and hold him there in a painful manner until the police arrived... But, I'm 5'3", and he looked to be about 6'6" w/ his roller blades on... He approached me TWICE.. skating directly toward me FAST & stopping with a quick, sideways skid, about an inch away... looking me over, trying to intimidate me... Well, I stared at him, getting a GOOD look from the side, seeing HIS BLUE EYES... behind his DARK sunglasses!!!... asked him some questions too... I wasn't scared... but THE ONLY PARENT THERE! Oh well... I have been rendered "POWERLESS" thanks to our LAWS If a crime is witnessed, we should have the freedom to act right then and there... Next time I'm taking the camera w/ the zoom lens~ (How about a paint gun... can I shoot him with one of those?...) <_<
  9. Unflippin Believable! Get on the HORN Seth, and maybe, just maybe some BULLDOZERS will be over there digging up the place! I'd do it, IF I HEARD THAT... BUT, I didn't hear that... maybe after reading in here, some bodies have already been removed... any FRESH holes appearing on TWI grounds after your post on August 29th? This is really something you should speak up about if you think there is ANY truth to it... get the authorities involved! Didn’t TWI attract the outcast? Maybe there are some that nobody would miss… I REMEMBER that wooden sign w/ a magnum 357 on it, reading “WE DON’T CALL 911” (or something like that) very creepy...
  10. Here's a 'Fun' Autumn Meal~ (This is the quick version) Creamy Pumpkin Soup 1/4 C water 1 small onion, chopped 4 C vegetable broth 1 16-ounce can solid-pack pumpkin 1/2 C unsweetened applesauce 2 t curry powder several dashes of Tabasco sauce 1/2 C soy or rice milk Place the water and onion in a medium saucepan. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes, until the onion is soft. Add the broth, pumpkin, and applesauce. Stir to combined. Add the seasonings. Cook over low heat, stirring occasionally , for 10 minutes. Stir in the milk just before serving. *This would be very attractive served in a small baked pumpkin. Cut the top off a pumpkin. Clean out the seeds and strings as you would for a Halloween Jock-o;-lantern. Replace the top. Place the pumpkin in the pan with 1/2 inch of water. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
  11. Sometimes it's easier to see what something is by being clear in what it is NOT... From what I've seen, there was very little Charity in TWI, and Charity IS ALIVE AND WELL in many local Churches here... that I know for sure~
  12. Hello Eagle~ We have many favorites here, and SPICY is the usual theme that all but one of us LOVE. Here's a nice soup w/out any meat or oil: Spicy Arroz Verde (4 Servings * 10 minute Prep Time * 25 minute Cooking Time) 2 1/2 C vegetable broth 1 C chopped green onions 1/2 C chopped green bell pepper 1/2 t minced fresh garlic 1 C uncooked brown jasmine rice 2 T chopped canned green chilies 1/2 t ground cumin 1/2 t chili powder freshly ground black pepper to taste several dashes of Tabasco sauce 2 C chopped fresh spinach 1/4 C chopped cilantro or parsley Place 1/2 C of the vegetable broth into a saucepan. Add the green onions, bell pepper, and garlic. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes, Add the remaining 2 C vegetable broth, the rice, green chilies, cumin, chili powder, pepper, and Tabasco sauce. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes. Stir in the spinach, cover, and continue to cook for 5 more minutes, until the liquid is absorbed. Remove from heat and stir in the cilantro or parsley. Serve at once.
  13. Will there be Spinach, Herbie? We're so missing our Spinach here... <_< DMiller, you're so funny~
  14. Substantial effort you've put into this Herbiejuan! So glad it's working out! Is this in a warm area? Didn't realize planting could still be profitable this time of year. Looking forward to hearing more~

    The 60s!

Ugh…, I HATED the 60’s! It was a very bad time for me. I had LONG hair passed my butt, that HAD to be braided at ALL TIMES, I was ONLY allowed to wear dresses and skirts, we had a strict 7pm bedtime all year long, and our family didn’t communicate at all. My Mom rewarded us with food, and she frequently let us know of all the people in the neighborhood, city, state and world that were WRONG in their choice of clothing, style of hair, choice of music, manners and words. :( My first pair of pants were HOMEMADE from orange and white checked wool, and I was allowed to wear them for the first time during my BIRTHDAY party in 7th grade… 1973 All the years I begged for a Barbie like all the other girls were getting… I’d get a more MODEST type doll… finally got a Barbie… think I was 11.. By then, I didn’t want one AT ALL We did get a TV, but were only allowed to watch a ‘little‘. Bewitched & I Dream of Jeanie were my favorite, but the Munster, Addams Family, Hogan’s Heroes, Gomer Pyle and the Dick Van Dyke were somewhat disturbing… we didn’t watch the Twilight Zone Nope, I didn’t care for that time in life at all… there wasn’t much I enjoyed except getting away from my Mom, which meant being OUTSIDE! Snuck around the Asylum grounds that were behind our house, rode bikes, did Lemonade Stands, and put on gymnastic ‘shows’ for the passing cars. When given the choice of ‘work’, I’d ALWAYS pick something OUTSIDE~ :) phewww.... sorry about all that~
  16. Forgive? Doesn't the bible say 'woe unto those pastors'?... I haven't really thought of any of these people... does that mean I haven't forgiven them... they were all wrong, along w/ those men we do know personally... people mess up... they're forgiven... but that doesn't mean they will have my trust or respect. Now, Jim Baker does visit the Church down the 'road' from us, it's a Full Gospel place, and once in a while he comes and speaks... don't know if they consider that 'teaching', or if he's sharing on experience... after hearing about his visits, I just don't want to go there
  17. Sorry to hear about your friends wife~ The article wasn't about EVERY doctor... but it certainly does go on, and it is the normal practice of the Pharmaceutical companies... who's to say what the Kaiser P doctors get as far as kick backs? This wouldn’t be something that would reflect on the cost to the patient, just how the patient is treated... This information wasn't meant for public knowledge, and it would take some digging to find out WHERE all of their equipment actually came from~ Food for thought, that’s all…
  18. hummm... no opinions? This article made me mad! Besides knowing personally some folks that are/were in the Pharmaceutical business, this all rings true to what the 'normal' procedures are... Too much maybe?... Who cares?... I'd rather take a pill than change a habit?... Good Luck~
  19. Here is an article written by Dr. Ben Kim in Canada, a successful Doctor who is helping many change the direction of their health for the better. He offers e-mails to those that are interested, and has a web site full of interesting articles on health. He's given me permission to include some of his writings here, with the intention of helping people. You can visit his web site Dr. Ben Kim A Sick Health Care System By Ben Kim, D.C. One of the main goals that I have for this web site is to encourage our readers to learn how to be their own best doctors. Please don't misunderstand me; I think that there are some wonderfully caring and competent doctors in our world. But there are also many doctors who don't have each of their patients' best interests at or even near the top of their list of priorities. Over the years, it's become clear to me that a big part of the problem with our health care system is the system itself; our current health care system doesn't encourage doctors to teach their patients to prevent disease and address health conditions with simple food and lifestyle choices. Take, for example, the health care system here in Canada. I often hear leaders of other countries, most notably, the United States, tout the universal health care system in Canada as being the ideal system - one in which every man, woman, and child has access to free health care. While on the surface the Canadian system appears to be an effective one, as far as I can tell, it is just as sick as other health care systems throughout the world. To be more specific, medical doctors here in Ontario, Canada, are paid an average of $27 Canadian dollars per routine office visit. Initial visits that involve a thorough physical examination are usually billed at $60 Canadian dollars per visit. Put another way, for routine office visits, medical doctors here in Ontario have no financial motivation to take their time and consider their patients' food and lifestyle choices. If a patient comes in with a chief complaint of a chronic headache, the doctor could spend an hour gathering critical information on a patient's diet and lifestyle, and then go on to address any changes that could be made to address the chronic headache. Alternatively, the doctor could spend five minutes going through the motions - pulse, blood pressure, pupillary reflexes, and other quick screening measures to make the patient feel like he or she has been adequately examined by an expert - and then write out a prescription for a pain killer. Either way, the doctor gets paid $27. So which route do you think most doctors take? There's another reason why many doctors have a tendency to deal with most cases with a prescription for a drug: the pharmaceutical industry makes it well worth their while to do so. Here's how a pharmaceutical sales representative recently summarized his work for me: "I take the doctor out to dinner at a fancy restaurant, all expenses paid. As dinner winds down, I ask the doctor to recommend my company's brand for certain health conditions among his patients. Sometimes, the doctor will say that his office needs new equipment. I say how much? The doctor says $5,000. I say fine, but only if you write 100 scripts (prescriptions) for a specific drug made by our company each month. The doctor agrees, and we get him his new $5,000 machine." Out of curiosity, I asked the pharmaceutical sales rep how he and his company can be sure that the doctor will follow through on his word to write out 100 prescriptions of their drug each month. Can't the doctor just take his $5,000 machine and not follow through on his promise? "No, all pharmaceutical companies pay big money to a huge, global corporation called IMS that tracks this type of data," was the rep's instant reply. For a fee, IMS can provide date-specific data to pharmaceutical companies that breaks down exactly how many prescriptions of each drug that each licensed doctor has handed out and how many of them have been fulfilled at licensed pharmacies. In other words, the managers who work for pharmaceutical companies who approve $5,000 gifts have a sure-fire way of verifying that their gifts are properly reciprocated. And I think that we can all safely assume that this regular exchange of gifts does not amount to a net profit of zero dollars for the pharmaceutical industry. Just in case you don't want to make this assumption, consider that the IMS reports that in 2005, global pharmaceutical sales amounted to 602 billion dollars; mucho dinero, n'est pas? So let's pretend for a moment that you're a doctor who now has to write 100 prescriptions per month for a specific drug that helps to regulate blood glucose. When a patient walks into your office and shows a mild to moderately elevated fasting blood glucose level, would you take a half hour to an hour to explain what he or she can do with food and lifestyle choices to have a great shot at lowering blood glucose to a healthy level? Or would you write a quick prescription for a blood glucose-regulating drug to bring your target for the month down to 99 prescriptions? This is one of the most powerful ways in which big pharmaceutical companies have helped to create a sick health care system; they provide strong financial incentives for doctors to choose drugs over health education for patients. The bottom line: putting your health entirely in another person's hands, namely, your doctor's, is never as good a choice as learning how to be your own best doctor. Learn how to choose nutrient-dense foods. Learn about the critical roles that fresh air, clean water, some exposure to sunlight, physical activity, and proper physical and emotional rest play in determining your health state. Learn how negative emotions can cause physical damage to your cells. Most importantly, apply all of this knowledge to your everyday life as soon as possible; be your own best doctor.
