vpw, as usual, extended his double-standards to us having emotions. The man had poor impulse control and would fly off the handle all the time- yelling, storming off, and engaging in loud and florid displays. Whenever asked about it, he always gave some rationalization for it- how it secretly was done to build character in the observers, how it was "spiritual" anger or whatever, and so on. lcm and others just copied what vpw did..... However, vpw taught that it was always wrong for US to display emotions. WE had to be disciplined- something vpw COULD NOT teach by example because he was a slave to his vices and passions. Having us be the same would not benefit HIM, however, so most of us were TOLD to be disciplined, and sometimes TOLD that vpw was disciplined- while he was obeying the lusts of his flesh, the lusts of his eyes, and his pride of life. Then again, he wanted us to be ROBOTS- MACHINES that OBEYED without question and otherwise were not underfoot and requiring any kind of help-or even "preventative maintenance" like any machine cared for, even. Everyone with a hint of talent is run off as a threat- if they get popular, it draws from rfr's authority. Everyone with a hint of emotion is run off as a threat- if they're feeling rather than obeying coldly, it undermines rfr's authority. Life in twi is pretty barren.

It's factually correct that he's dead. However, you didn't address what you think of him at all. You changed the subject- which, I think, is rather telling. His actions which still affect some of the living, his practices- which some still carry out, and his doctrines-some of which are still taught, those aren't buried with him.

Ooo- got it in one! The man obviously remembered "Hawk."

Congratulations on the radio show and enjoying life post-twi. Even Rosa-lie can't say as much- she's stagnating and you're growing.

Next show. This SF TV show about the future featured a few pilots- including a pilot who supposedly was some sort of bird-person. It ran in the '70s/early '80s.

Right. Ultimately, either we'll find out when we're "upgraded"" (or maybe later), or it's all smoke and we'll never find out. Either way, speculating can be FUN ((maybe tolemerase production has degraded due to chromosomal aberration, maybe A Wizard Did It), but won't get us very far.

I found myself wondering if "GALACTICA 1980" had floating motorcycles or if I imagined it. (I don't think I've seen the series SINCE about 1980.) Battlestar Galactica was an SF version of "Wagon Train." It was about the JOURNEY. Universal said to Larsen: "Let them reach Earth." "Yeah-THEN what?" "Doesn't matter." But they showed us it darned well DOES matter. Worse, they slashed his budget, so everything was done even cheaper than before- and they didn't have enough money to pay the original cast. (Starbuck made an appearance.) Larsen was going to make it several generations later, but Lorne Greene was SO sad-puppy about the thing that he couldn't bring himself to fire Lorne with the rest. So, he stayed and the story made even LESS sense than it would have. And no, I have avoided the new series ENTIRELY.

It oould be any of the series, but I'll take a swing at it. "For Your Eyes Only"?

Don't measure ALL of Christianity by twi/ex-twi. I've seen better than that in denominations since twi. That includes the Roman Catholic Church- and I do NOT particularly LIKE the Roman Catholic Church. (So I have little reason to laud them to the sky.) Credit where credit is due.

If one entertains the possibility, then another consideration would be problems with limited genes. The problems would either crop up immediately (unless "perfect" genes in the first generation forestalled that) or later, whenever the gene pool shrank. As it turns out, the death ages begin plummeting just after The Great Flood. That's when the gene pool really shrinks. I'm certain the people who set ink to paper in the original didn't have a modern understanding of genetics. That means-if it isn't somehow an accurate account- it forms an interesting coincidence.

That's it. Go.

"The two of us need look no more. We both found what we were looking for. With a friend to call my own I'll never be alone And you my friend will see you've got a friend in me." "You're always running here and there. You feel you're not wanted anywhere. If you ever look behind and don't like what you find There's something you should know you've got a place to go." ¨I used to say "I and me" Now it's us now it's we (I used to say "I is me") (now it's us now it's we)¨ This song's from 1972 and has been re-released a few times. (11 not counting remixes and covers.) The movie this was the theme song to was NOT ¨Willard.¨

I WAS thinking of ¨All in the Family.¨ I wasn´t sure how you were classifying ¨drama¨ and whether, say, ¨Gloria¨ or ¨Maude¨ might qualify. BTW, the movie ¨Alice Doesn´t Live Here Anymore¨ was the basis for ¨Alice¨.
-
That´s not the correct movie and not the correct theme song, but......

I´m fairly confident it means that-somehow-they think he didn´t do it. Me, I think US law is too lax on this sort of thing, and jail or prison is too good for them. (Criminals of this type.)

His best friend stole from him, his house was trashed, and a dying man of blood poisoning can't even eat a doughnut without being hassled by a government agent. That's not even counting the Senator that wants to stab him in the chest- whether or not the Senator is an expert on prostitution.

Would it help to point out it was the title song for a movie and was sang by a kid who was a famous singer when he was alive?
-
Sorry, not a big enough Stones fan to answer your question. If you don´t find one, here´s my suggestion.... Go to wikipedia or wherever and get a playlist of one album. Then go to Youtube and listen to a version of each song if you can find one. Repeat the process, then select the album you like best from among what you heard.

vpw's delusions of grandeur come up here. He claimed to the corps that he once was in discussions with Oral Roberts and Billy Graham to collaborate as EQUALS concerning matters of Christianity, and then used their supposed pulling-out and changing their minds as evidence other Christians can't be trusted. "I heard that on a sns tape once. If I recollect correct (and it WAS docvic speaking), the claim was made that he (docvic), Billy Graham, and Oral Roberts were going to team up. Billy Graham would be the evangelist; Oral Roberts would be the *healer*; and docvic would be the teacher -- or somethng like that. I do remember him lumping the three of them together, then saying it fell apart because he refused to *compromise*. Docvic and *no compromise* in the same sentence?? Oxymoron. " ======================================= I'd be surprised if either of them ever HEARD of vpw, much less interacted with him. vpw went to hear Oral Roberts speak-but we have no guarantee they even so much as shook hands after Roberts taught. In vpw's claims, however, they were peers and equals. That's probably why vpw tried to copy Oral Roberts University and ended up with that Emporia business, and "the Way Presents" was a copy of something Billy Graham did. Find something legitimate that's working, then make a cheap knockoff. Pretty much how vpw operated.

Plagairism in the real world is taken seriously
WordWolf replied to skyrider's topic in About The Way
Although Bullinger used the more cumbersome phrase "dispensations" and vpw used "administrations", Bullinger mostly made more sense. (That happened when vpw deviated from Leonard, too, as seen in the "definitions" of the "msnifestatons"-which went from clear and brief to long-winded and inaccurate.) Myself, I preferred "stewardships" to "administrations" because it highlights that we are STEWARDING something that isn't ours. vpw's idea made it sound like we were ADMINISTRATORS-and thus IN CHARGE. As for the "dispensations/administrations", Bullinger numbered seven. vpw used that (seven) but changed what was what. We lost one and gained one. We lost the original #6-"MILLENIAL", the thousand years to come in Revelation 20, with Christ on Earth. We gained the new #5- "Christ"- with Christ on Earth for ONE year during 4 Gospels. If you're being shallow, this makes sense. "Millenial" has what, 2 verses describing it, and "Christ" has 4 Gospels? But swapping in 1 year of what would otherwise be the LAST year of "LAW" and removing 1000 years in exchange is more than a little lopsided. Jesus himself said the tiniest part of the (Mosaic) Law wouldn't pass away until it was all fulfilled- and finished it himself on the cross. So, vpw was trying to vary from the sources he plagiarized, but-as often happened when he tried it- he ended up making LESS sense. One would normally see steady IMPROVEMENTS if one UNDERSTOOD the source material and proceeded from there. It's the "standing on the shoulders of giants" thing- with the work already completed as a starting point, you can get further from there. -
In case anyone's thinking this will be a radically different text, the linked article includes this: "The errors have no bearing on the Bible's stories and alter nothing in its meaning. Instead, for example, in some places the markers used to denote vowels in Hebrew are incorrect; or a letter in a word may be wrong, often the result of a centuries old transcription error. Some of the fixes are in the notations used for cantillation, the text's ritual chants." That having been said, I'm curious to read the English translation, if I ever get the chance.
