    LEAD

Rascal said: As I see it, this is the heart of the matter. TWI (aka VPW & co) cared more for things than people. Money. It would have cost money to transport us to LEAD. Sure I learned things at LEAD and hitching to and from Rome City twice. I don't begrudge anyone telling of their positive experiences at LEAD or anywhere else. I had positive experiences during my 13 years in twi because God was able to reach into that stinking mess and bless me at times, just like He was able to bless many of you. I believe the blessings we received were in spite of vpw's decisions...certainly not because of them. johniam: WTF??? Do you really realize how this sounds? warning...I'm goint to get graphic to illustrate my point: What if a trucker had "violated" your hairy co^n #ole (vpw's word...CF&S) during one of your hitching adventures? Do you think possibly you might see things in a little different light?
  2. ex10, thanks  Yes, I believe someone was watching over me.

    LEAD

Jonny, sometimes bad things happens just because $hi t happens, but when the bad things happen because an organization is too cheap to provide safe transportation and proper training and equipment, then the fault (and the sin of loving $$ more than God's people) is on the head of that organization...namely vp & company. And as for Kevin and his brothers and sisters...I really cherished those people.
  4. Well, here goes... I was a psych major (who wasn't in those days?) but my mother died while I was in my first year of college and my father remarried six months later, abandoning me financially. I dropped out during my second year and moved out of state, where I got involved with twi. I tried going back to school after taking pfal, but between being broke and starting to believe vp's rant that world wisdom was worthless, I gave up hope of finishing college. A few years after leaving twi I considered going back to school for the long haul but I needed to be realistic about how much time I would be able to invest in school and still take care of my family, (our second child has special needs) so instead of a bachelors I went through a two year medical program and earned an associates in applied science. So...now I work in occupational health for a large corporation. It's a very good job with retirement and affordable health insurance, and I'm paid well for only having been in my field for ten years. It's certainly not my dream job, but I am thankful to God that I have it. It's an odd thing being thankful for the lemonade you've been able to make, yet at the same time being resentful for not getting the lovely peaches you used to dream of having. polar bear, I guess my point is you have to weigh the cost of your changes. I don't know you from Adam, but if you can afford to take the risk you might as well try.

    For Music Lovers

mstar, I don't remember the capes. What was with the capes? :P I saw Yes in concert with Poco...a strange pairing. My date was the Yes fan but Poco made my heart beat a little faster.
  6. Rick...you have a good point about babysitting drunks vs. potheads while sober, but having to babysit either would make me want to run. Back in the day I worked in a music store/head shop and an eight-track tape factory. Some people worked stoned, but I couldn't handle it. When I was at the register I had to concentrate really hard to force my twirling brain cells to hand the customer the correct change and don't start laughing. Not that our customers would mind my laughing...I just didn't like the feeling of losing control.

    Summer Time

Summer Rain by Johnny Rivers I forgot how to post the link...
  8. (tonto) . (bluzeman) bluze, I got that idea from my stepsister and her husband, plus many more. It's obvious the business owners I know are different from the business owners you know and hey, it's really none of my business. I was just "sharing". As far as equating mulitple drinks with a pot buzz...maybe it's the illegal aspect that makes the difference. It's illegal and stupid to drink and drive, so I don't approve of that either. That being said, I'm aware that nobody gives a rat's azz whether I approve of something or not.
  9. Well, it's been 33 years since I inhaled and initially it was a blast, but I don't miss the paranoia or the forgetfulness that came along after the fun. Good grief...I've always had a hard time keeping my train of thought and I wonder if my high times didn't contribute to my scatterbrain-edness now. This is going to sound snotty but here goes...it's one thing to smoke when you're college-age, but the image I get of someone who continues the habit into their 40's and beyond is...well...rusty cars in the front yard...mullet hair cut...lack of ambition. To paraphrase Neil Young...I've seen the weed-le and the damage done. And hey Mo...I agree it should be legal.

I'm so glad you like them! We vacationed in Oregon for the first time this May, and we can't wait to go back...it was breathtakingly beautiful. Did you grow up in Oregon?

    Mini Corps Spring 86

AJ that's you? I thought you were too old to be with this group...I think this was our second year so the kids here would have been 5-6.

    Chosen Gems Spring 85

I'm pretty sure this was taken our first year ('84-'85), which would have made this group age 4 to 5. Are you younger or older than your brother? There were so many kids...200, I believe, so I remember some of these kids but not all. Our son is smack dab in the middle of the front row.

    Family 10, 11, or 12

AJern, log in and look in my gallery to see a few of my pictures at Rome City. The clarity on the pics isn't the greatest...the resizing seemed to garble the quality of the images. Anyway, the one of the junior corps is in there now if you want to check.

    Family 10, 11, or 12

Hi AJern, When hubs gets back in town I'll have him post the junior corps picture and maybe more if I can find them. He'll probably put them in the gallery, and I can pm you when we get them in. I think I worked housekeeping with your mom first block. Later that year I think your family was across the hall from ours. Were you friends with a boy who had the same first name as you? Were your sisters around 12 and 15? I've enjoyed reading your posts and I'm glad you've built a life for yourself outside twi.
