I don't need believing to be a "law" to understand the importance and value of faith. I do not need to be compelled, incorrectly, to tithe to understand the importance of giving, or the Biblical admonition to give generously. I view PFAL's keys independently of PFAL. "Read the verse, read the context, see where it's been used before" can be applied to that which is taught in PFAL. PFAL teaches dispensationalism. Does the Bible? PFAL teaches that believing is a law that works for saint and sinner alike. Does the Bible? PFAL teaches that fear is believing in reverse and what you fear will come to pass. Does the Bible? WAYDALE REPOST: Rafael Olmeda's Original Blue Book Commentary
Raf replied to Zixar's topic in GreaseSpot 101
What? The portion you quoted is IMMEDIATELY followed by the answer you claim is not there, in detail. I do not propose that my conclusions are superior. I only propose that they are MINE. You may not realize this, but this thread was a lengthy discussion, not just me spouting off at the mouth. I was also quite willing to listen and adjust my views accordingly. I am not a better teacher than VPW. I am merely different, with different viewpoints. And I think you should consider those viewpoints. If you disagree with them, that's just dandy with me. As long as you're thinking, I'm happy. You've come to the conclusion that much of what VPW taught was accurate. You'd probably be surprised to learn that I have come to a similar conclusion. But that would take away from your ability to criticize me as a "critic" who tries to establish his own conclusions as "superior." "PROVE all things. Hold fast to that which is good." Why don't you tell me how to do that without reasonably assessing what's right and what's wrong with what you've been taught? -

Not only that, but Bob doesn't really bob. He sinks, or he swims, just like the rest of us.

Kudos on the Donna Murphy catch. I thought that might be a stumper. Charles Martin Smith Deep Impact Tea Leoni

Correct. Manhunter, later remade as Red Dragon, was the movie I was thinking of. Both lines are in both movies.

Gregory Hines White Nights Mikhail Baryshnikov Okay, I'm kidding about the ballet guy. Isabella Rosselini

Sorry! Steve! Maybe! Next! Time! And no, it's neither big fish nor pirates. I gave one hint: the line is good for two movies. I'll give you another hint: two movies, yes. Two stories, no. Name either movie. "Do you know how you caught me, Will?" And another quote from the same flick(s): You're so sly. But so am I.
-
Sigh. Benny & Joon. New clue, good for two movies: name either one. Do you know how you caught me, Will?"

More from the same movie (for the following, I'm cheating. The first quote was from memory. The second was posted from memory and corrected by cheating. The following are taken off a web site with movie quotes)... They used to be fat and juicy and now they're twisted. They had their lives stolen. Well, they taste sweet, but really they're just humiliated grapes. I can't say I am a big supporter of the raisin council. Some cultures are defined by their relationship to cheese. Ruthie, do you got any avocados? "He can really cook, can't he?" "Yeah, although for grilled cheese, I might use the wool setting." "That's what I told him." "Really? What did he use?" "Rayon. Silk would have been too soggy. Cotton would have..." "Would have burned it." "Right. Fortunately, he consulted me before giving it steam. I was four square against it." And if you still don't get it, then I've stumped ya!

Actually, if we hadn't just used Dune, it would have been easy to link Michael Nouri to The Hidden and Kyle McLaughlin. But alas, we did. And if you're really good, you spotted Robert Wuhl in one Flashdance scene, recognized him as the photographer in Batman, and could link to a whole buncha folks. But I can't imagine remembering that. So, instead of Flashdance, let's do... Runaway Jury

Right, a cameo is sufficient. I just checked IMDB to see if there is anyone in it other than the one guy I'm thinking of. Most of the cast remained unknown, but there is one guy who had a bit part and later became, well, not FAMOUS or anything, but at least better known (as in, decent role in major, major blockbuster). If you're all stumped I'll pick another Beals movie.

Right! Cindy! Well! Done!

Two more haikus for this one, which is tougher than I thought it would be. Another hint: I just referred to it on another thread... Where is this I wake? Arrest could be solution Please leave me alone This does not feel good I've never had this much hair What big teeth I have.

Okay, two things. Steve! went from Spy Kids to Antonio Banderas to Spy Kids 2, which is normally not kosher, BUT he did it to get to Steve Buscemi, who was not in the first Spy Kids movie, which makes it kosher. Well done. Second, no, it only counts if the singer was actually in the movie: not on the soundtrack. The person has to be on the cast list. There are some cases where it's iffy, and those are allowable (for example, Lea Salonga is the SINGING voice of Princess Jasmine in Aladdin, but someone else is the speaking voice: in that case, since Salonga is voicing a character, she's allowed. There are other cases like this). So, we're at Sting, right? The Bride Jennifer Beals Flashdance

HCW is absolutely correct. If he were to say, for example, you are a misogynistic sycophantic idolater, that would better qualify as a personal attack (although I contend that at least 2/3 of that probably qualifies as simple observation as well).

Another quote from the same movie... (Corrected: there was a typo AND I got the quote a little bit wrong). You can't bet a human being!

If I'm right, the next clue is... "Did you go to school for that?" "No, I got thrown out of school for that."

A big name star whose first major role was in a monster type movie... Clint Eastwood in Revenge of the Creature. Ah, but you said STARRING role, and Clint Eastwood's appearance in that movie was minor. Johnny Depp's role in Nightmare on Elm Street was also not a "starring" role. Nope, that would have to mean... Steve McQueen in The Blob
