From that link:

Now, as president of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, the scope of his dominion has grown from 300 students in the Salt Lake Valley to 10,000 people on the Arizona Strip.

I don't know if it's scary or laughable that this nutcase has managed to build a bigger base of twits than TWI.

Thou Shalt Obey

Jeffs - who even before becoming a fugitive was reclusive - rules his cult with an iron fist, making outrageous demands and expelling anyone who disobeys (as well as those whom he considers to be a threat).

Since succeeding his father as FLDS leader in 2002, Warren Jeffs has tightened the grip on his followers in part by casting out "sinners".

As principal of Alta Academy for 22 years, Warren Jeffs was a stickler for the little things. Sloppy handwriting, an untucked shirttail, a bad grade -- all were signs of a personal flaw that needed to be confessed, corrected and often punished.

Now, as president of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, the scope of his dominion has grown from 300 students in the Salt Lake Valley to 10,000 people on the Arizona Strip.

His discipline has hardened into law, and his goal is perfection on earth. To err is to risk one's eternal salvation.

"I believe Warren is trying to accomplish something that even God hasn't heretofore," said a close associate. "To be able to pull together a captive group of followers who are measured by a mortal man as being perfectly united in mind and body and purpose."

DANG!!! Does that sound familiar, or what??

Polygamy is practiced openly in Colorado City, a remote enclave in Arizona on the state line with Utah that is dominated by the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The sect split from mainstream Mormonism after the broader church renounced polygamy more than a century ago.

The fundamentalist group touts plural marriage as a key to reaching the highest place in heaven.

FLDS teaches that men must have at least three wives to reach heaven -

Now, where exactly have they gotten this information? I didn't see that in the Bible :biglaugh:

Now, where exactly have they gotten this information? I didn't see that in the Bible :biglaugh:

It's located in the Doctrine and Covenants 132 verses 17-63. The key word is "exaltation" -- which, according to the LDS Guide to the Scriptures, means: The highest state of happiness and glory in the celestial kingdom. Also, All who do not obtain the fulness of celestial exaltation will to some degree be limited in their progress and privileges, and they will be damned to that extent.

Now, from what I understand, a subsequent President (of the LDS) received revelation that changed the guidance on Polygamy. I understand that, in Official Declaration 1, it was to be held in abeyance. Maureen could provide better information on this, of course, but that's my understanding.

From what I gather, the Fundamentalist LDS rejected this declaration and decided to stick with their scriptures (to include D&C 132, linked above).

Now can the woman have multiple husbands? or is this just a man thing? I bet alot of men would feel like they were in heaven if they had multiple partners to choose from of a night :biglaugh:

If this guy's a fugitive why can't the FBI seize his assets?

My laughter over this statement might cause SOMETHING to leak from my body...as in...LMAOPIMP.

WHY is this guy really in the FBI's 10 Most Wanted List??

Let's look at who else is on the list and what they are accused of:

USAMA BIN LADEN - MURDER OF U.S. NATIONALS OUTSIDE THE UNITED STATES; CONSPIRACY TO MURDER U.S. NATIONALS OUTSIDE THE UNITED STATES; ATTACK ON A FEDERAL FACILITY RESULTING IN DEATH

JORGE ALBERTO LOPEZ-OROZCO - UNLAWFUL FLIGHT TO AVOID PROSECUTION - MURDER

DIEGO LEON MONTOYA SANCHEZ - CONSPIRACY TO IMPORT AND POSSESS WITH INTENT TO DELIVER COCAINE; POSSESSION WITH INTENT TO DELIVER COCAINE; MONEY LAUNDERING; RACKETEERING INFLUENCED AND CORRUPT ORGANIZATIONS (RICO) - DRUG TRAFFICKING; CONSPIRACY TO DISTRIBUTE OR MANUFACTURE COCAINE ABROAD WITH KNOWLEDGE OR INTENT THAT IT BE IMPORTED INTO THE UNITED STATES

JAMES J. BULGER - RACKETEERING INFLUENCED AND CORRUPT ORGANIZATIONS (RICO) - MURDER (18 COUNTS), CONSPIRACY TO COMMIT MURDER, CONSPIRACY TO COMMIT EXTORTION, NARCOTICS DISTRIBUTION, CONSPIRACY TO COMMIT MONEY LAUNDERING; EXTORTION; MONEY LAUNDERING

ROBERT WILLIAM FISHER - UNLAWFUL FLIGHT TO AVOID PROSECUTION - FIRST DEGREE MURDER (3 COUNTS), ARSON OF AN OCCUPIED STRUCTURE

VICTOR MANUEL GERENA - BANK ROBBERY; UNLAWFUL FLIGHT TO AVOID PROSECUTION - ARMED ROBBERY; THEFT FROM INTERSTATE SHIPMENT

GLEN STEWART GODWIN - UNLAWFUL FLIGHT TO AVOID CONFINEMENT - MURDER, ESCAPE

WARREN STEED JEFFS - UNLAWFUL FLIGHT TO AVOID PROSECUTION - SEXUAL CONDUCT WITH A MINOR, CONSPIRACY TO COMMIT SEXUAL CONDUCT WITH A MINOR; RAPE AS AN ACCOMPLICE

So, Jeffs is really on the same level as Bin Laden?

Really?

Gimme a break!

Who did he .... off?

It's got to be political - it smells like another Waco thing to me...

The guy has less offences than what many of the high-profile Roman Catholic priests who were jailed for sexual conduct with minors - I mean, c'mon.

No, I'm not saying what this guy did is acceptable - nothing of the sort - he should be punished. Absolutely. But to be on the Ten Most Wanted?

I'm curious to know what else is going on to put this guy on the list... this will be a good one to watch....

Belle: I think this group has a bigger "calling" than twi because it has been around since the late 1800s. The people are born in to it. It is very constricting on their freedoms. I think they are more brainwashed that twits are IMHO.

I live in the same county as this group. I don't know about all assets, but here's what's going on with the property owned by that church. The state has awarded their trust, United Effort Plan, to a trustee which has no affiliation with the group. They are in the process of surveying all property owned by the UEP and awarding it to the people who live on the property.

They will get their own parcel and will have to pay taxes based on their parcel. Previously, leaders from the church came in and figured out who was on what tax bill and told the people what to pay. I'm sure it wasn't their fair share, but they did what they were told. Sound familiar?

Word has it that these people were instructed not to pay their taxes. They will lose it all if they don't. The state-appoined trustee, however, told them that if they do not pay their taxes, they will be evicted from the property.

From May 16th, CNN...

Warren Jeffs

His group is described as an offshoot of LDS, which many years ago was described as a cult in the same vein as TWI by my deprogrammers. Of course, in this story it is written that LDS denies any connection with this group, just as TWI would deny any link with CES, CFF, CRF, etc.

Best no doubt just to go with what actually takes place, rather than with labels...and this story seems to have plenty of stuff.

Well, how many people do you know of who have run from the law for only a late registration?!

...the point wasn't that they were "running" from anything, it was more like - the authorities can find you for the small things, why can't they find someone for the BIG thing? Ya know...? :wink2:

(This is coming from someone who got pulled over for being a day late having her car inspected - the cute cop just gave me a verbal warning, tho.) :)
