Ok I am a little confused here and have a question. Pawtucket said earlier that Jonnys link did not fit with the forum mission which is :

The bigger issue is this: Our mission is to provide information that tells the other side of the story about The Way International and its trustees. Our hope is that GreaseSpot Cafe serves as a place where those who have been impacted by The Way can make connections with people and information which will support their particular process of recovery.

So my question is upon looking at the open forum threads I see threads about Rocky Horrer (pretty offensive to some), Table Wine.Guitars, Sea monkeys , a baby announcment, Birthdays ,a murder trial and so on. I understand that his link was too graphic for the board, but I am confused about the second reason. How does any of the open threads have to do with the mission of the board as stated, to me they are as unrelated as his thread. You mentioned the politcs fourm and it being restricted, Were you asking about restricting the open forum also since clearly most of the posts don't have to do with the mission of the board? Since as Jonnys most of the open threads don't support the mission would making this a restricted fourm be an optiion?

Yeah, I don't get that either. And, I lied. I said I wouldn't comment here anymore. But, the point you just made White Dove is very valid, and I couldn't resist. The simple fact of the matter is that I posted an offensive link, and I shouldn't have. I am not sure why it has been taken to such extremes.

And Socks, "Fifty one, fifty two, fifty three, fifty four, fifty five..." :(

Lingo, I took the liberty of highlighting in bold the crux of the biscuit...

1) you posted an offensive link

2) you shouldn't have

3) it was removed

As to your "I am not sure why it has been taken to such extremes" statement... my only guess is because you keep bringing it up...

I'd imagine that if you hadn't started this thread it would be a distant memory by now... let it go already, look at the beautiful mountains on the horizon...

"seventy one" "seventy two" (get your knees off the floor!) "seventy three"

Sorry Jonny my intent was not to entice you to further posts. Having thought that your link was funny and having passed it on as such, I realized that could have been just as easily something I would have done also thinking it harmless fun. I did not consider it Pornography I suppose because of the animals, so I could see myself doing something similar. I learned something today that the politics forum was restricted I did not know that, of course I never go there so I wouldn't. Anyway it left me wondering what else I did not know about this board I thought the open forum was for any subject and not necessarily related to The Way., so I thought I better find out before I post something that gets me 86'th like a bad todays special.

White Dove,

I bring up the mission as a reference. The difference between Jonny's link and the others may be a matter of taste, but it seemed a bit too graphic and even crass for the open forum.

The open forum is for other subjects. That said I always look at the mission statement as a means of deciding about content. I want something like the open forum to be for discussion of different things and a fun place to throw out different things. But Jonny's thread was NOT a discussion. Someone that may be looking for info on the Way might get offended by that. If you didn't that is fine. As I said earlier, it was amusing, but it was vulgar for the board. Many peoples' recovery is seated in the sexual arena. I would hate to offend someone searching as a result of copulating monkeys with overdubbed voices.

I am not going to restrict the open board. Nor am I asking that anyone follow the mission. I was merely showing you what I use to make decisions. I rarely interfere with any threads in the open forum. This particular one was considered offensive by members of this community. We looked at it and agreed that it fell into a category of offending people.

Wow.

Well, I think a little communication on the deletion event is good - in this case it came from Jonny Lingo in the form of an "apology". ("Yeah you're sorry bud but not as sorry as you're GONNA be!" :biglaugh:

I've always felt that it's a good idea to have some way of knowing when threads or posts get moved or deleted. Even when the postee-threader is notified privately of a change, no one else knows so you're bound to have some readers running around going "which way did he go, which way did he go?" Inevitably there will be discussion - it's like coming home and finding the mail box is gone. Where'd my stuff go?

I suggest - a small forum or spot solely for posting when something's been changed, moved, deleted. And why - like "there were complaints", or "it's better placed over here". That way if something disappears in the night we can go there immediately, see if it's accounted for and that's that. Otherwise it does have sort of a KGB feel to it when something's moved or deleted -

"Where'd Svigo go?"

"Svigo retired."

"But he only 32 years old, too young!"

"See how well new Ruski Prosperity Program work?"

"Yaw, okay".

For the Board Mod's to do such things isn't a sign of out-of-control moderation ("necessarily"). It's not an insult or a bad thing. It's just board maintenance and upkeep.

That's just my opinion, so if you don't agree that's cool. I'm just glad that I won't be going to he||, y'know?! :biglaugh::biglaugh::biglaugh:

 Well, north or south, readers will want to know.

It's a little weird to me to take a thread out, poof, gone, ain't here no more, was then but ain't now - and not expect some or all of the readers of that thread, yea verily lo! participants - to wonder where it went and ask or post about it. It seems like by having ONE thread, we'd save having pages of discussion.

It's not that big a deal - it's not like someone stole your car or kidnapped a loved one. It's - a thread.

It it sew big a deal, really?

How about a thread entitled "Deleted Threads And Re-Categorized Threads". And the Mods who do either the deleting or the "moving" for various reasons can explain why a thread was deleted, or explain where a thread went and why. Excellent idea Socks. This way The Moderators (sounds like "The Regulators"-vigilante group from The Old West) won't get as many pm's that say; "Hey! What happened to my thread?!"

For instance, if some one's thread disappears, they can say to themselves; Aha! I know where to go to find out what happened!" And The Moderators at that thread can say;

"Jonny's thread was removed because it was deemed offensive".

OR,

Socks's thread entitled "Why I Keep Coming Back To The Way" was moved to the Prayer Room, or, to the "Just Plain Silly" forum...

Good idea Socks! Seems like this thread wasn't a waste of time after all... :)

Well, sooner or later, everyone will realize that Tom's thread "Amazing Sea Monkeys" is the real reason for GS. Who'd've known? Purpose is good, and when it's fully realized it's real good. I know we're not all there yet, but that's okay. Patience.

In the meantime, In 'n' Out's are proliferating and if you're looking to seriously enhance your buzz, get thee hence. :)

Hey, if the thread thing works, cool! I had a gooder idea? Well, if just one person was helped Jonny, it makes it all worthwhile.

And it's biblical too - "let all things be done in moderation". Hey, I didn't write the book people.
