God first

thanks Composer

but God can be beyond the image

working in people hearts to bring about good

this is love

love is just a word

until you give it meaning

God gives it is meaning by loving us first

I started a Thread about this alleged ' love ' your God you claim has for its creation -

It's been there a while now and considering all the alleged ' love ' you claim your God has for its creation not a single claimant of that alleged ' love ' has offered a shred of anything at all to legitimately substantiate that. In fact they are all completely silent about it?

Why am I not surprised!

why would want to fight about it

your mind is made up

no need prove anything to you

that the way they see it

but at least some it I did for one but I saw no need to fight small things

because every right to believe as """you""" see best

Roy, you have the uncanny ability to show more godly love and compassion in your posts......than all we bible thumpers combined. It just takes open eyes to see it.

Love,

I read the thread you started. It is just a list of complaints, and you make no real coherant point about Haiti. Anyways ~ you don't believe in God. You've said as much already. So the only real point to your questions would be to use them as a springboard to argue about something you don't believe in. I hope you're more productive in real life. Perhaps if you were not so bitter (and yes, it really shows in your writing) people would talk to you.

I certainly do make most pertinent points. This god you condone, is a cruel and sadistic monster that sits back and does nothing to prevent the mass slaughter and atrocities caused by its own lack of ' loving ' action on its part (i.e. e.g. prisons crumble in Haiti and 7000 worst criminals escape to rape, murder, pillage, traffic in body parts and orphans etc.)

Anyways ~ you don't believe in God. You've said as much already.

You certainly are also lacking in comprehension and reading skills. I have made it quite clear that I DO believe in an Intelligent Designer / god for want of a better word, however it is unworthy of my worship (especially not the trinitarian story book one)

So the only real point to your questions would be to use them as a springboard to argue about something you don't believe in.

Getting your facts correct is a difficult task for you that is obvious.

I hope you're more productive in real life. Perhaps if you were not so bitter (and yes, it really shows in your writing) people would talk to you.

I detest deceivers and pretenders and my 50 year tally so far demonstrates -

Pretend & Fraudulent christians = 100%

Genuine story book christians = 0

Better luck next time!

You don't believe in My God, so your points are moot. You believe in another god and when you see these things happening, you blame the God you don't believe in. A rather silly exercise.

Thank You for proving my point. Your "god/id" or "Intelligent Designer" Is not the same one I believe in. You don't believe in God, you believe in some god. My point stands and is well made. Thank you for proving it. GreaseSpot has many people with a variety of interests and beliefs. No one here is telling you how to worship. I certainly am not telling you how, or who, to worship, Composer.

Your replies to my post, neatly broken down, to argue each point, prove every word of what I said there. I'm responding in the manner you'll best understrand by replying in kind to you.

Yes,... you're making this about what YOU detest,... for you. It is considered rather bad form to come in here and tell people what they should or should not believe. You can state your beliefs, ask others if they agree or disagree, and invite comment and discussion. You're rude Composer, and as such, not worth any more of my time - unless that changes. You also owe me an apology, for your personal behavior.

for what its worth...

seems to me, that of the many many ways scripture is viewed, there are perhaps 3 broad categories...

- scripture is NOT a story, it is truer than science!

- scripture IS a story, therefore it is worthless!

- scripture IS story, and is worth A LOT as such!

imho, the third option is the most valid, historically, practically, and otherwise...and is most likely to lead to the end of this seemingly endless and circular enmity between faith and reason, and an authentic restoration of the judeo-christian heritage.

how is scripture is NOT a story?

how is scripture a story?

how is the story of scripture teach us?

how is scripture like a fairy tale?

while i cant wholly agree with everything the folklorist says, some lines from the opening post seem worth examining...

The Bible is folklore, which doesn't mean it isn't true

...

These questions and many others have worried Biblical scholars for centuries as they have tried to understand and rectify the multiple versions of stories in the ancient text.

...

...the diversity in the Bible should be embraced as a central feature of the oral tradition from which it was generated.

...

This doesn't mean the Bible isn't true, or that it isn't a sacred text...

...

...the Bible is oral literature that has been written down, and the nature of oral literature is that there must be two or more versions of any story.

...

...the New Testament was written 70 years after the death of Jesus - more than enough time for several different versions of the same story to have arisen. To try to determine which is the "true" version is probably not productive...

...

People say this is a oral tradition, but then they proceed to search for one true variant," said Dundes. "In oral literature, there is no such thing.

...

This is not meant to be disrespectful, but people should stop worrying about the discrepancies among the stories. They don't matter.

...

Indeed, it would be surprising if there were not such variation, Dundes said, adding that "each of the four versions has its own integrity.

...

To a folklorist, it is utter folly to attempt to reconcile such diversity.

...

...variations in the oral tradition were preserved in the Bible precisely because of its sacred nature.

...

These two books represent efforts to apply folklore studies to biblical literature from a folklore specialist and a biblical scholar. They underscore the applicability of folklore theory and its power to give biblical texts social and historical settings.
