  2. Hi Joe, I think you're referring to the "Word of Faith" movement? The link below is a little more narrative about it and exposes it as gravely wrong thinking/believing. Says it was promoted by E.W. Kenyon... although there were others. https://www.gotquestions.org/Word-Faith.html I have to catch myself doing the "name it and claim it" routine... it's still so ingrained in my head and a very bad habit. It could have elements of "the sin of presumption" which is a big no-no in the catholic church. Part of the healing process for me, has been to read and memorize catholic prayers... Thx for posting this.

  4. We can clearly rule them out both due to them being heftier. No, it wasn't anyone from my lifetime.
  5. For those people who think that the PLAGIARISM stopped with vpw -who plagiarized just about EVERYTHING he ever taught- THIS IS PLAGIARIZED from chris geer. Complete with the plagiarized title. They didn't even bother to change the name. When vpw plagiarized 2 of Bullinger's papers to make "Are the Dead Alive Now?", he at least changed the title. He was lazy enough to keep the question format for it, but he changed the title. They didn't even bother to do that. Oh, but they don't do the harmful things they did before. Yeah, right. If they're doing this, they're still getting away with anything their lawyers say they can still do. The only real changes have been to quiet their lawyers. Outside of twi, I've never heard of a church group who does the right thing on advice of their lawyers, or are less moral and nice than their lawyers.
  6. All they research is OTHER PEOPLE'S WORK. Still banging on about "faith" and "believing." They might want to pay attention to the book of James, specifically at ch.2. Unfortunately we know all too well what are TWI's deeds and works. And the only physical needs that are provided for are the adulterous needs of leaders. Let's see some of their faith/believing/call it what you will, by them first apologising for past behaviour, seeking out their victims with genuine remorse, and now getting on with genuinely helping their local community without any expectation of reward or recognition. Without doubt there will be homeless, impoverished or hungry people within a very short radius of HQ; families who are in "heat or eat" mode or have other financial difficulties; those who can't afford medical bills, etc.
  7. So BMI = 703W/H**2. Being thin reduces the numerator. Being tall increases the denominator. Height actually has a greater proportionate effect. A 10% drop in weight (same height) drops the BMI 10%. A 10% increase in height (same weight) drops the BMI 21%. Unfortunately, almost half of the presidents were 6"0" or taller. Clearly, we can rule out Taft and Trump. I'll try George H. Bush. George

  13. "Since the 1970s, The Way International has been engaged in a Biblical study of the Greek word pistis, most often translated “faith” in the King James Version of the Bible, to understand its accurate usage in the New Testament. The words “faith” and “believing” in the King James and other versions of the Bible are used interchangeably; however, they are not synonymous. One concern has been that the current English usage of the word “faith” implies no believing action, which the context of many of the occurrences of pistis shows in the Scriptures. Many on the ministry research team continued working this topic over the years, seeking to understand the different uses and usages of this word pistis and the different Bible kinds of faith" The Way continues to build on the "Gospel of Faith" movement.... that Victor Paul Wierwille took from Kenyon, Cliffe and many others.
  14. No. For the record, he's neither the first nor second place-r. How to calculate BMI..... Take the weight in pounds, and multiply it by 703. Then, divide the product by your height in inches (12 inches to the foot), then divide that quotient by your height in inches (yes, a second time.) The result is the BMI. For this round, using a calculator is not cheating, but looking it up still counts as cheating.

  16. I think this is a typical post from someone who claims we should forgive and move on, and that now the ministry has a new twist. Besides that....forgiveness is a release from guilt, but it doesn't imply the restoration of a relationship. Because that requires repentance, which in TWI's case is asking for forgiveness from the people they have harmed and acknowledging that Wierwille was a plagiarist and that he harmed/abused many people. And we all know that TWI WILL NEVER DO THAT. And I do not agree about "The new face of TWI", because TWI appears different on the outside but internally it is still basically the same - a cult. For those asking, YES, TWI has been promoting ROA 25 as an "open christian festival" and encourages people to invite friends (even if they are outside the ministry), However that is the same old lie to appeal to young people. Have a good day!
  17. Sorry. Got a lot on my plate, these days. I need to pay closer attention.
  18. Let me try to narrow this down. It is one of 11 Ringo Starr songs (with The Beatles) in which he sang lead vocals. Obviously this isn't "Octopus's Garden" or "With A Little Help From My Friends", or "Yellow Submarine". So there you go. There's only 8 more songs to choose from. Ringo sang lead on one song on almost every album by ~The Beatles~`. They had 12 studio albums. Come on. This is pretty easy breezy.
  19. Let me check my notes. 1-Correct- Abraham Lincoln, at 6'4". (LBJ was second, at 6'3 1/2".) 2- Correct- James Madison, at 5'4". 3- Correct- William Howard Taft, at 322 lbs/340 lbs, depending on the source. 4- Correct- James Madison, at 122 lbs. 5= Well, I'll call it CORRECT because it was Taft, with a BMI of 42.3. Even Taft's height couldn't shake that. 6- Incorrect. He was pretty lanky, but there were other lean Presidents who had a lower BMI. BTW, I'm showing results that said the lowest was a President whose BMI was 25.3, and there was no way to calculate the BMI of another. That having been said, all that's needed to calculate it is the height, the weight and the formula. The lowest BMI of any President so far was 20.9, once it's actually calculated. So, that just leaves #6 unanswered.
  20. So long as it was presented, and even promoted to a point, but not made mandatory/indoctrination, I think it would help, at least as far as was stated on that page. On paper, I think it is a good thing. In moderation, I think it would benefit society. In practice, if it caught on a lot, I think there would be a rude surprise in that- once it took on FORMAL structures and FORMAL doctrines- it would start to suffer from some familiar problems. I'm well aware there are people who say much the same as this- without any structure to draw from, and live their lives with a view towards making the world a better place. I'm well aware that some of those people are atheists or agnostics. But, it would be INEVITABLE that structures and doctrines would form. It's been that way through all of history, and I would not trust anyone who claimed it was only a possibility. Once those formed, it would become an organization. Once that happened, we would find SOME people using it for their own ends- hypocrites who mouthed its tenets but looked to get what they could from the system, people looking to skim off some money and pocket it, people in it for the authority of the offices, and so on. I think that, for the most part, the ideas are good. I think that, should this gain a lot of popularity, it would replace one set of structures with another one. Eventually, everything someone might complain about if there were a religion would appear- dogmatism, corruption, etc. I'm also aware some people alive now would probably swear up and down such a thing could never, and would never, happen. But then, every group has their fanatics, and fanatics have never been strong on reflection and examining the evidence or their conclusions. So, yes, a positive thing, but overall, a lot less effective than you're thinking.
