Happy Birthday to you, Ms. Cindy! Bright Blessings on your year ahead and much joy and peace, too!

Any way you slice it, it is still a brutal crime. Two wrongs don't make a right IMHO. Women do tend to strike back at the abuser when he is sleeping. Women are made to do longer sentences for manslaughter. It's ugly and I hope more women and men can break the abuse cycle.

I will be entrenched in college classes in April. One event next year is about all that seems possible and that will depend on work and arrangements for my daughter, who will be 13. I hope you all have a great time.

Good luck with your new forum for the site! I have thought about you with all those hurricanes in Florida. Take care!

Shell and Paw: Your kidding, right?

The fact they were willing to settle for only 60 million makes me suspcious. He is willing to bet his career on this case, so I think there is a chance he is innocent.

Thanks for the pictures, Sudo! Oak told me about the hike to the waterfall and then you have a picture of it!

Thanks, Sudo! Great picture. I hope everyone had fun.

It was never the plan for me to go with Oak to the Weenie Roast. As it turns out my daughter will be playing in her last flag football game and I have two classes on Monday. It was nice to see Oak right before his trip. He was ready to leave before I got out of school and he insisted on waiting till I could stop by.

Interesting remark, Lindyhopper. I have a feeling you are kidding. Is it so? -

Choice #4 fits me... Been to Chicago and got a Greasespot T-shirt from Pawtuckett and met many from Greasespot there as well! -
Music Concerts: How Much Will You Pay?
reikilady replied to Nottawayfer's topic in Movies, Music, Books, Art
I saw Christine Lavin in 97' and paid less than $15. Eric Clapton came through Omaha and I might have sprung for tickets if I had been a little more flush. I do support artists in small venues from time to time. It is getting really expensive to go to concerts. I have observed friends going into financial ruin over going to "every" concert. I was given a center, front row seat to Crosby, Stills, and Nash concert and it was life changing! I came away from that experience with a whole different attitude that lasted a long time. I think it's a matter of budgeting. Right now I have different priorities than spending a C note or more on a tickets. I like the idea of going to the small venues and seeing talent. Christine Lavin is awesome! -
The acting was really good. Tim Robbins was excellent, as was the rest of the actors. The part that made no sense to me was the wife telling Jimmy that she thought her husband did it. I thought that was pretty strange that she would go to him. Except that she wasn't all that intelligent and wasn't thinking straight.

A. A. does work. My group had 3 ministers in it at one point, with one constantly quoting from the bible. He also quotes Dr. Phil. Overcomers is a christen group that works for some people. A. A. is self-supporting so as not to be unduly influenced by anybody. Therapists are recovering alcoholics, too. A good meeting, imho, doesn't have "cross talk" where people talk to you about your issue to the whole room. I don't like that and it's not suppose to be like that. I will comment on something somebody says in how I relate to it, but not speak the person's name. I was in an A. A. group for about 3 years that was cultish imho because everything revolved around it. I spent at least 4 nights a week at a meeting of an hour to an hour and half, sometimes going to coffee afterwards. I spent a lot of my extra time at events sponsored by A. A. and also extra money for those. I pulled away when I got married the second time. It helps to listen to the solutions and to observe the examples you don't want to be. Not drinking or drugging is just the beginning of recovery. Learning to live and function without addictive behavior is the part that keeps you sober along with believing in a "higher Power" which many choose to call God.A. A. has some good ideas and has helped a lot of people. You just have to have a sense of "self" of what is healthy and what is not. They say to exercise at least 4 times a week to gain fitness and I was trying to gain serenity at the time. I can't fault the people I let influence me in A. A. I will not go into details here. There were some untoward experiences that I walked away from here in Lincoln. I don't like to listen to people trash A. A. that don't like it after a certain point in time. If someone always brings it up negatively than I ask them to talk about something else. We have to find our own way. Here, on this thread, sharing about not liking it is fine. I'm talking about every time I see somebody. I am super picky about where I go to meetings at. I don't have a sponsor which is suppose to be a major "no, no" and I won't until I find the right person. Not someone who will think she will run my life. STEP 3: Came to believe in a power greater than yourself and turned your will and life over to that power. Great step! Good topic!

TOMMYZ asked for suggestions about healing, not suggestions on "living with it and adjusting." While being miserable about a condition creates it's own healing crisis, not asking the Divine and others for ideas about healing doesn't make any sense either. I wish you much peace and joy for you and your family, TOMMYZ!

Upon reading about your wife's condition, I would highly reccomend the book about the mantras. Sometimes the mantras lead to help that really works for issues. Sometimes the mantras work to heal the situation. I hope that you and your wife have a positive outcome to your search for healing. You are welcome to e-mail me privately if you have any questions.

Healing Mantras by Thomas Ashley-Farrand. Positive Energy by Dr. Judith Orloff, M.D. Are you looking for "energy" healing information? Or are you looking for herbal healing information? Or both? The first book I mention has a CD you can get so you listen to the mantras and not just try to go with the phonetics in the book. The book explains what the mantras mean and how to work with them. Thomas is christian and studied extensively. I have found saying mantra's to be very healing for myself and other people. The other book is for "the healer" and how to keep themselves healthy while being able to do healing work with others or just plain add to or maintain health. Many healers are very empathetic and tend to take on the problems of the people that they are trying to help heal. I believe that all healing comes from The God force and visualizing Jesus's bright white light is very healing when ever you need some support or just want to clear a negative situation. You just imagine the white light starting in your heart and expanding through out your being out through your aura. You can also imagine the white light around the "problem" or person you are trying to help. I hope this was on the track you were wondering about.

Thanks Steve! I was wondering that as well.

At all the handfastings I've been to, the bride was not given away. In some cases it was written into the ceremony that she gives herself and doesn't need to be given away. I don't think the bride being given away is part of a handfasting. Not from what I have read about them and not what in what I have seen. Love the jumping over the broom and the ribbon fastening part. I also like how the bride and groom often times don't wear shoes, depending on the weather. Tradition also dictates that the agreement to stay together gets renewed after a year and a day. Some people actually write down a contract about their marriage and it isn't about a prenuptial agreement.

I logged on almost 3 months ago and this is like any other community I've been around. There are times it is more interesting than others. I once heard that if your bored than you are boring. One thing that is annoying to me is how nasty some people get when they have a difference of opinion. While I can't imagine going into Baskin Robbins and ordering vanilla or chocolate ice-cream I would defend another's right to do so. With the freedom to express yourself comes a responsibility and I think (just my thoughts here) sometimes we long for a challenge or excitement that isn't always available. More than anything, as hard as it is, respecting people's right to share and to have other ideas is something I do my best to do. This, of course, means eating my hand instead of telling someone how "off" the mark I think they are. I agree to disagree a lot. I appreciate being able to come in here and wish people Happy Birthday and celebrate life. I also appreciate the intelligence, humor, and insight on the posts. The other day my A. A. meeting that I dearly love was a real groaner! People rambled on about when they were drinking and it got way off the subject. I spoke my mind without being nasty about it and realized that getting ticked about how people express themselves doesn't add to my quality of life. Zixar, with your brains and chutspah, you'll either find or add to what you are looking for or do something else. Be well and prosper!

This is the best Harry Potter movie out of the series so far. I loved it when Hermoine told off Draco and then punched him! I also loved the time traveling element, too. I have a friend who makes Harry Potter robes if anyone is interested. She is a fantastic seamstress and is making me some new outfits. Flying on a broom...speaking in tongues...flying on a broom Miracle will follow miracle and wonders will never cease!

This movie was about rising above circumstances and learning more about a different culture and way of life. The acting and the story was fantastic. I watched it at home and was able to stay interested even though it was the second movie in a row. I don't normally watch two movies in a row. Today I thought about the content of the movie and how utterly inspiring the story line was. I don't care if it was made up or was made to make bunches of money. It was worth my time and hope Tom Cruise continues to make movies that make me think. I do think the wife of the man Tom Cruise killed did develop feelings for him over time and I liked the way the movie showed them getting back together. The way Tom's life was spared and the way he was helped and helped this group of people was awesome. Miracle will follow miracle, wonders will never cease!
