the way international suicides etc. on youtube
waysider replied to excathedra's topic in About The Way
Though I remember the incident quite well, I don't recall ever hearing it called by any specific name. It was a weekend kind of deal, at limb HQ, when I was in FellowLaborers. (1975-1978) It was run by an outside source. I think Jam3Y L@u!s had a hand in it, if I remember correctly. It was one of those things where they parade you in front of the whole group and subject you to public ridicule and degradation. You couldn't really get up and walk out because it was a required part of the program and we were out in the middle of Podunk, Ohio, ya know? They just kind of sprung it on us at the last minute. They verbally chopped me up into little pieces, in front of everyone (50+ people) because I said "I suppose" instead of "I know that I know." Whatever. What bothered me the most, though, was that one of our FLO sisters "snapped" as a result of it. She became an entirely different person for the rest of the time we were in the program. If you are experiencing suicidal tendencies, that sort of thing is a horrendously bad idea. -

I didn't go through Momentus. I went through something very similar, courtesy of The Way. I don't remember what it was called or if it even had a formal name. Maybe it was a precursor of Momentus, I don't know. I can't speak to how it affected the other participants but I can tell you how it affected me. It left me profoundly depressed, with an unshakable sense of hopelessness. If I had been predisposed to suicidal thoughts, I'm quite sure it might have put me over the edge. -

Anyone with a conscience would have taken a step back and reevaluated the situation, looked for ways to better administer the various programs. Not Wierwille. He didn't give a rat's azz whether you lived or died as long as he got what he wanted. He showed his true colors in the way he dealt with the death of of Gary D#nH**f. -
It makes me wonder..... If The Way had waited a few decades to thrust itself upon our society, amidst the current culture, what would it look like? Maybe it would look like THIS. (*Any volunteer may be dismissed at any time and/or program cancelled at sole discretion of those charged with oversight.*)

I always liked the line where they say, "You're my pride and joy, etc." Heh! -
Initially, Wierwille pitched his product (PFAL) by implying that it offered an avenue of attaining material abundance. When it started to become apparent that this claim was invalid, The Way, though various teachings in classes, such as DWA, RM, AC, etc., revised this promise to say that the abundance is really spiritual, not material. We, according to Way theology, would need to speak in tongues, renew our minds and become proficient in operating the "law of believing" in order to obtain the abundant life. All the while, the original claim was sitting ("like a duck") right there in the introduction to PFAL. In contrast to these Christian people, I could see that the secular world of non-Christians were manifesting a more abundant life than were members of the Church. So, what did Wierwile see? Did he see these people speaking in tongues, renewing their minds, practicing "believing"? No. He saw that other people had material abundance and promised to show us how we could have it, too. Spiritual, shmeritual. Pffft!

Books are just, paper and glue. It's the information they contain that impacts their readers. I don't think you need worry that the information in those books will be lost. There are plenty of people left from TWI days who will go to their graves making sure that information lives on. (unfortunately)

Telling you that your abuse and bullying is a result of your faulty believing is just another way of shifting the blame from the perpetrator to the victim. First and foremost, the so-called "law of believing" is a load of horse apples. They used that stuff to shift any blame away from themselves whenever and wherever it worked to their advantage. Got sick?..... your fault. Got sexually abused?... your fault. Son gets killed crossing the street?....your fault. When oh when are we ever going to get past this crazy idea that you can change things in this physical world around us by simply having the right or wrong thoughts?

You have to do what it right for you, Roy. I have always enjoyed our conversations.

In retrospect, the whole "en garde!" concept is ludicrous as it was applied to our daily lives in TWI. en garde a call to a fencer to adopt a defensive stance in readiness for an attack or bout So, we were supposed to assume a defensive stance (recite scriptures) to ward off attacks of critical thinking (the adversary). It's nothing more than an exercise in self delusion, aimed at ignoring logic and reason in favor of what amounts to a sort of self induced behavioral modification. And, the foundation for the whole deal was that clever little lesson in PFAL that showed us what happened to Eve when she neglected to correctly assume the defensive stance.

Definitely NOT a WOW-mobile:

Now there's a tune that really tells it like it is!
-
Retemories were really just a vehicle for fortifying your self delusion and bringing it into subjection to way theology.

Let him that stole, steal. No more working with his hands the thing which is good.

George's answer is correct. It's nice, though, to see another fan of Bobby Womack, who happens to be from my hometown. Just because... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNDN2yn7zjA

The whole danged thing was based on an illusion. An exercise in willful deception.

One year, I was home for Christmas break. I ran into a couple local guys who had just gone into WC3 or WC4 who were also on break. (I lose track of the numbers thing.) They were all excited about how they learned you could have more abundance if you used less toothpaste. I thought, WTF??? This is the "how to" of the abundant life?? I could have gotten better advice on how to be a cheapskate from my Grandparents, who discovered all sorts of tricks during The Great Depression. Red flags waving but I chose to ignore them.

The Real Housewives of Cornfield County "And then she was all like, 'Where's your believing'? And I said like, 'You need to SIT more for sure, byotch'."
