  1. I dunno. It seems like when you forgive someone, it's usually accompanied by the expectation that the transgression wont happen again. Otherwise, it would just be enablement.
  2. They oughta have a po' folks channel For people down on their luck Where they don't advertise, not one thing that cost you more than a buck. (Fifteen hundred worth of unpaid bills)
  3. Sure, they have the freedom to believe whatever they want.....4 crucified, 17 crucified, 32 denials, the dead are just taking a dirt nap, the moon is made of Brie, precious really means costly, blah, blah and more blah........ couldn't care less.....but when those beliefs begin to dictate life altering decisions made by their followers, we're talking about something entirely different.... Tragedy after tragedy as a direct result of L.E.A.D ( when it became apparent there were serious problems, did they rethink their strategy?).......Women strong-armed into abortions they regret for the rest of their lives.....people foregoing proper medical treatment and dying as a result of trying to prove the law of believing....people killing themselves because they were told they were born of the wrong seed and that all hope for salvation was gone.....etc. Oh, but, hey! You could bring in the Mormons, the "Dubs", the People's Temple and Islam if you choose. It would really be a red herring as far as I'm concerned..... These people (TWI) promote a lifestyle that is severely detrimental to their followers. And they (the BOD) have never offered any sort of apology.....That's the bottom line.
  4. ------ try some of Granny's miracle cure, an odd mixture of sulfur, molasses and herbs, and within six weeks or so you will feel like a spring chicken.. let's see who remembers that reference.. =========================================== That has to be from Beverly Hillbillies. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OfVTW8XxcYc&NR=1&feature=fvwp
  5. Well, that brings up another good point. If you forgive someone for a transgression, does that mean you are supposed to forget it, as well? Wouldn't that be like leaving yourself open to the same type of wrong-doing in the future? "Live and learn." Know what I mean? You wouldn't be a very good student of life if you kept forgetting which pitfalls to avoid.
  6. You have to wonder what the word "forgive" meant in Biblical times. Did it mean the same thing as it does today? It just seems to me that people today tend to use it interchangeably with "excuse". Is forgiving someone the same thing as excusing them? I wouldn't think it would be.
  7. One question...Who should ask forgiveness of whom, on behalf of who, for what transgressions exacted on whom?... ----------------------------------------------- Original question: "Is there any category small or large that TWI's Board of Directors has ever asked for forgiveness in? To any group?"
  8. Once again, the question was not whether you have forgiven them. The question is whether they have ever apologized.

    John 1

It's in The Word's Way (Studies in Abundant Living, Volume III)-----The Brown Book. Chapter II Who Is The Word ? John 1:1-18 I don't have a scanner. :(
  10. Wierwille (former BOD member) could have said, "I'm sorry." thousands of times over. He had ample opportunity. Instead, he chose to say things like, "Take off your clothes, honey, I'll show you what's good about being alive." as quoted from Losing The Way.
  11. Here is the original post: So a topic that often comes up in conjunction with this website is "forgiveness". The accusation being, people on this site don't "walk in forgiveness". So I thought I'd start a query into that, by discovering if somewhere the BOD of TWI has asked for forgiveness and I've just missed it. Did they (VP, etc.) ask for forgiveness when they were alive? Has the current BOD/BOT asked for forgiveness? The question is not whether you forgive them or not. The question is whether they have ever acknowledged their wrong doings. (ie: sought forgiveness.) It's been my experience that they never have.
  12. Nah. My waysider "handle" is derived from The WaysideTruck Stop,an establishment that the Fellowlaborers used to frequent. It was a real greasy spoon kinda joint.
  13. You know. I wasn't quite sure how this topic would be received. I must say, though, that all the responses have been great.
  14. Thank you, Thomas. You said it much better than I could.
  15. The problem with the "fits like a hand in a glove" approach is that hands can vary greatly. Blues guitarist Hound Dog Taylor, for example, had six fingers on his left hand. What sort of glove fit his hand? Jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt played all his solos with only two fingers due to a serious injury sustained in a fire. And then there was Jeff Healey who put the guitar flat on his lap and used his hands in a manner you might expect to visually associate with a piano player. But, that's only the mechanical aspect. I'm also thinking about the lyrical content. Songs from the 1920s through 1950s were notorious for hidden meanings, double and triple entendre. Songs like Fishing Blues. Who knows how differently these songs might be interpreted a century from now?
  16. Well, there are "live" recordings and then there are LIVE! recordings.
  17. I've never had any friends who are Muslim. But, I have done service work in lots of homes with Muslim residents. Some are really nice, some are total byotches and some are someplace in between. Ya know? Just like any other group of people. They don't seem to live a life that is all that much different than mine except for their diet. I should probably be asking them for advice on how to eat healthier.
  18. God only knows which box it's in down in that dark cellar
  19. I doubt they would ever want me for lunch----unless they have some perverted fetish for truckstop food.
  20. You can learn more about da werd of gawd by breaking bones than you can from reading Genesis! Dat's Riiiigghht!
  21. Like it or not, our generation has grown up with a soundtrack of various and diverse music. Have you ever watched a bit on television, heard something in a conversation, read something in the newspaper and thought. "Hey!, that reminds me of (insert song of choice here)"? For example, while reading the "Bridge To Nowhere" thread, I automatically thought about the Talking Heads song Road To Nowhere. Not just the similarity in titles, but, the similarity in concepts. I feel pretty safe in assuming that the Talking Heads weren't making any sort of reference to The Way in this song. Still, in my mind, I could draw similarities and parallels. Someone involved with a decaying business venture or a sports team having a losing season might read an entirely different slant into it. So, this brings up a question about scripture. How can we be so sure we know what the original, intended message was? Maybe, like the aforementioned song, it was meant to include intentional ambiguity. Food for thought. -----and that would make it impossible to "know that you know that you know" beyond the realm of your own private understanding.
  22. I still have a vinyl copy of Working Man's Dead. It was purchased because it included Uncle John's Band. It's only been played once. Know what I mean, Vern?
