I'm not sure about rock "stars". Quite a few top notch professional rock musicians were once part of The Way, though. There is also a jazz star/icon who was involved at one time. If I'm not mistaken, his daughter is a WC grad.

The man was a self centered pig. "Ohhh, but he taught me The Werd!" Pffffffft!

What's there to go on about? Wierwille used the money to buy stuff and exert his control. It fits like a hand in a coin purse.

I went to my first ROA the year that it became a weekend event, rather than one day. I think that was 1972. (I used to have a tee shirt around here that said "Rock of Ages, 1971", but, I think somebody gave me that one.) I was 21 years old and had been to several secular music festivals. It was the parallel similarity of the two that attracted me. As time went on, though, the ROA resembled those events less and less. The disparity grew with each passing year. After a while, there was essentially NO similarity. So, whatever it was that I found appealing at that first one was no longer in evidence. I think I went to my last one in about 1980. I had no desire to ever go again.

Money and power-----they're intertwined, in my opinion.

Is all opposition to twi deemed as spiritual attacks?

"It just sits there like a duck!" -
Watered Garden has posted about that sort of idea crossing her mind. I think she made reference to using mouse traps. :P

Well, if your name actually happens to be Peter, maybe they were written to you. I'm just sayin'

That's all it really was, ya know? It was just a commune, with a religious twist. (Sorry for dragging this off topic.)

Middle of the night, white glove inspections. I suppose the severity of it might have varied according to the "house" you were in. Then again, I think inspections were done by F.L. coordiators. Too many years ago to remember all the details.

Yes---It sucks. One particular time, we were locked in the BRC for a Momentus type weekend. I made the ghastly mistake of using the phrase, "I guess-----". Got my arse publicly reamed, six ways til Sunday.------"We don't GUESS, we KNOW!!!!!!"
-
It was used as a way to control you and keep you in a subordinate position.... not too unlike barracks inspections in the Army.
-
Hell, we got "busted" for improperly folded under-shorts!!

Geeze, I wish you guys would quit being so negative. VP (You know he wasn't really a doctor, don't you?) Wierwille said right there in PLAF (the wonder class) that if The Way ever discovered evidence that contradicted their previous teachings, they would immediately make the necessary changes. See? That's why it's called The New DYNAMIC ("ever changing") Church. Please save all your questions until the final post of this thread. And remember, if you are ever in a position of just needing to know, feel free to write: The Lecher P.O. Box 328/Cloud #9 Old Dead Guy, Ohio 45871

They sold them at the bookstore. Anyone with cash-in-fist could buy one.

Yes, there were very specific rules that regulated "the proper manner of display" for the dove pin.
-
Wierwille considered himself to be above the law.
-
Correct----They used it to control present and future behavior, not to explain how the past was affecting you.
-
Yes, there is a long history of the "grace will cover it" attitude in The Way. They used it as a license to do things that most Christians would take for granted as being sinful. Things like having sex with someone else's spouse. Wierwille is known for frequently saying, "Do what you like as long as you like what you do." Most honest people would recognize such an attitude for what it really is...... rationalization.

songs remembered from just one line

You know that it would be untrue. -
Yes, I absolutely remember VPW teaching about the sins of the father being visited on his children and his children's children. This was all tied up in the idea that if you "tripped out" (left TWI), your progeny would have to pay for your indiscretion.

Albert Cliffe, Medium and Psychic - Influence on VPW
waysider replied to kizka's topic in About The Way
Yes, it sounds suspitiously similar to a track from All Aboard called "Do The Best You Can." -
Yeah, I think he made punch cards for the loons, too, the loons that lived in New Knockwurst, Ohio.
