Lucky Man----(not sure if that's the exact title) Emerson, Lake and Palmer -
I must have "checked out" before Wayne M. was limb leader. (At least mentally, because I don't remember that) Earl B was the first Limb Leader there. Then, there was Howie Y., Jim M, and, I think, Pat and Donna S. I lost track of statewide doings after that. Rathbone is about an hour north of the state capitol, Columbus. At that time, it was in the middle of nowhere.

You've got a point there, TC. The Way of Ohio Limb Home was in Rathbone, Ohio. Now there's a booming metropolis if I've ever seen one. <_<

People have often wondered the same thing about many controversial historic figures, such as Hitler, Mussolini,Castro, Jim Jones, etc. I don't think there is an easy explanation. Early on, these kind of people develop and surround themselves with an impervious core of dedicated loyalists. They are very careful not to divulge their true nature in the early stages. They tend to eliminate malcontents quickly and quietly to divert harmful attention away from themselves. It seems to be a common phenomenon with political figures. You find yourself wondering why someone didn't just step forward and end their madness. I can tell you from personal experience that if you wanted to discuss such matters regarding TWI, in the mid 1970's, you had to make darn sure the person you confided in was trustworthy.

I honestly don't believe wierwille ever had any lofty or long term goals in mind. The Corps, WOW program, Fellow Laborers, series of classes and advances were all just grease, meant to keep the ABS train on track and running on schedule. If wierwille had truly believed his efforts were the greatest thing the world had witnessed in 2,000 years, he would have sacrificed the motorcycles, the hot cars, the airplanes, the rolling bordello and everything else for the sake of his "cause". After all, that's what he expected us to do, wasn't it?

Roy UNEXPLAINED MYSTERIES, the site at which you initially posted this, is very different from GSC. From their FAQ page: ********************************** Q. What is this site about ? Unexplained Mysteries is a site which explores the unknown, the unsolved and the unusual. We cover subjects ranging from the mysteries of ancient Egypt and frontier sciences to the more controversial; such as conspiracies, metaphysics, spirituality and the paranormal. We provide a place to discover and discuss alternative topics and meet other people who share similar interests, as well as offer somewhere for those who have experienced phenomena first hand to come forward with their stories and discuss them. Unexplained Mysteries is one of the world's leading destinations for paranormal news, multimedia and discussion. *********************************** On GSC, most of us share a common element in that we were involved with the same organization, The Way. That involvement had an impact, whether large or small, on each of our lives. UM differs from GSC in that sense. Comparing GSC with UM is, to use the old expression, like trying to compare apples and oranges. Our purposes for posting and our expectations of responses are not the same at GSC as they are at UM.

Well, I guess that settles it. VPW must have been a Christian because he exuded all those characteristics.(cough, cough, cough, cough)

I suppose if one really wanted to, one could even find something kind to say about MUSSOLINI.

In my neck of the woods, this is a common sight: And about a hundred miles north, these are the common variety: They're really just variations of the Grey Squirrel. -

Another Way myth is laid to rest. HERE And an added twist of irony: If you want to hunt squirrels as a food source, why choose the tiny red squirrel? Wouldn't it make more sense to take the Greys or, even larger, Fox Squirrels? -

Maybe they're trying to escape the spiritual boogers.

The tales of spiders crawling into your open mouth while sleeping have been proven to be mythical. http://www.snopes.com/science/stats/spiders.asp So, if they don't crawl INTO your mouth, why would they crawl OUT of your nose?

Was it a wetland? If so,maybe that's why it was initially passed over as being unplantable.

Gonna throw a monkey wrench in here. Page 48 of the PFAL syllabus states that, based on Eph. 4:11, there are ONLY five gift ministries.I don't really see any hard evidence that the number was limited by this verse. It's simply P.I. that VPW probably picked up from one of the sources he plagiarized. Furthermore, Wierwille states, on the same page, that the gifts are not to the individuals, but to the church. The context of verses surrounding verse 11 does seem to substantiate that line of thinking. So, in essence, he (VPW) is indirectly implying that he, VPW, is a gift from God to the church because he is bringing old light to a new generation. In simpler terms, being a "plumber" does not mean you have the "gift trade" of a plumber. It just means you ARE a plumber. edit: (and VPW was no plumber!!)

Man! It was all so long ago. I don't recall VPW ever saying anything that implied we weren't Christians. What I recall is that he other Christians for not living as if "grace" excused them from what would otherwise be concidered sinful behavior. Remember in PFAL how he criticized "the average Christian" for carrying the weight of the world on their shoulders?

Don't be too tough on yourself, WL. Lots and lots of us had no idea what was going on.

Well, that in its self demonstrates the dichotomy of the whole thing. In other words, how can hearing this one quote have such monumental impact if the original concept holds true?

Hello there, waylaid I'm sure by now you know that there were women in the corps who were LITERALLY drugged and raped by the top dogs. Date rape drugs and such. Some were coerced into abortions so that the "ministry" wouldn't be blamed. VPW was a sexual predator who used his office to violate unsuspecting women. I don't say this out of bitterness. I am simply stating the reality of what happened and offering an explanation of what I think may rile people up regarding your handle. Maybe that's the sore point that revisits the pain. I really don't know. My handle, also, conjures up a bad image if it is not accompanied with an explanation. It looks as if I am someone who sides with The Way. So here goes. In Fellow Laborers, we weren't allowed to question authority, either directly or amongst ourselves. If you did question decisions amongst yourselves, someone could rat you out and put an end to your stay in the program. So, we would sometimes walk to a nearby truck stop to talk privately without an unwanted audience. The name of the truck stop was The Wayside Truck Stop. Hope you can stick around and bring a personal perspective that is unique to your experience.

I remember the first time I visited The Way Woods. It was a beautiful, cloudless August night. Being a city kid, I had never really been anywhere that didn't have "light pollution". I had never seen such a star filled sky in my whole life. I felt like a kid who went to Disneyland and got to shake Mickey's hand. Of course, as time went on, I began to suspect that Mickey was really just some schmoe in a cheap, sweaty costume.
