  1. Dooj~ My total Bad~ I haven't been around for so much as a donut in a while, and this thread just caught my eye. I wanted to post the link to caringbridge as I found it helpful and thought many here would too. In re-reading my last post, I realize I was very "snarky" and I apologize. I also read the thread from the Prayer Forum and am very touched by the outpouring of heart and prayers. Best to you, and all, Cinder~
  2. Please keep in mind that Sam was where he was when he took the bullet to defend your right to sit at your computer and say whatever you want, on whatever forum you want. ~Cinder
  3. For those who care-Sam was shot in the head in Afghanistan and is fighting for his life. He's previously done 2 tours of duty in Iraq and is a marine Re-con. His unit was ambushed last Wed./Thurs. There is a website for updates: http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/samschoenheit Blessings~ cinder
  4. In 1986, my pal and I, who had a 3-Twig area, decided it was insane to send the ABS to HQ, when our local fellowships had single moms and others who were chasing disconnect notices and med/grocery bills. We decided where to stand on the issue, got some guff from the BC's, but support from Jo& Guar!n! (LC). The area was growing until the Tape with CG blaming the WC for all of the ministry's problems. We left the area shortly thereafter, but there was still an unaffiliated fellowship.

    Guitar Talk

Don't mean to derail the thread, but FYI, Dan Fogelberg passed away a few days ago. I appreciated dmiller's posting of one of his songs a while back, "The Leader of the Band", and figured d and I were not the only ones interested enough in the strings to know and appreciate his contributions to the music world. Thus closes the door to another chapter in my life that brought me joy and deep grounding in "things of the heart". "The leader of the band is tired, and his eyes are growing old. But his blood runs through my instrument and his song is in my soul~ My life has been a poor attempt to immitate the man. I'm just a living legacy to the Leader of the Band." I loved this song for its validation of family ties, even through the twi years. I equated the "Leader of the Band" as God, and later, when I started to get to know him, Jesus. (Not that I thought God was tired, except, maybe of our "stuff"). Music is a very powerful thing. It can reach into the depths of even a very hard heart and bring forth tears. I am a living legacy... ~Cinder
  6. johnUR: "The bible does not directly discuss vulgarity; it DOES discuss being offensive." Actually, it discusses both: Ephesians 4:29 (King James Version) King James Version (KJV) Public Domain 29Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. Ephesians 4:29 (New International Version) New International Version (NIV) Copyright © 1973, 1978, 1984 by International Bible Society 29Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. Ephesians 4:29 (Amplified Bible) Amplified Bible (AMP) Copyright © 1954, 1958, 1962, 1964, 1965, 1987 by The Lockman Foundation 29Let no foul or polluting language, nor evil word nor unwholesome or worthless talk [ever] come out of your mouth, but only such [speech] as is good and beneficial to the spiritual progress of others, as is fitting to the need and the occasion, that it may be a blessing and give grace (God's favor) to those who hear it. I didn't see your comment as accomplishing anything close to the above. My first thought was, "And you kiss your wife with that mouth?" johnUR: "Matt. 15:12 - Then came his disciples and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying? It doesn't say Jesus was vulgar. It doesn't say he was trying to be offensive, either, but it's clear he wasn't exactly trying to NOT offend them. Somewhere else it says Jesus called them whited sepulchres which outwardly appear white and beautiful but inwardly are full of dead men's bones. That time he WAS trying to be REALLY OFFENSIVE to them." I personally wouldn't presume that Jesus was TRYING to be REALLY OFFENSIVE with them, nor would I use that to justify such vulgarity as what rolled off your fingertips. Just my opinion. ~Cinder

  8. Cinderpelt is from a fictional series I'm reading with my kids, about feral cats and the structure of their society. Cinderpelt is a deeply reflective, kind, and honorable "medicine cat" for "Thunderclan". Thus, From: Thunderclan Territory. It's a good series for young teens. I have been asked about the Logo in the signature area. "Fireglass" is the title of a novel my daughter is writing and hopes to have published. It's the 1st in a trilogy, and she's written 21 Chapters, thus far. ~Cinder
  9. I stand corrected~ "kits" would be the proper term for squirrels. And I doubt you ever even gently threw them at the wall. General rule of thumb: After cooking for 18 years, there done-RARE. If they're lucky enough to maintain good relationships with parents throughout their lives, they'll probably end up well-done! OK~ Back to our regularly scheduled program. ~Cinder
  10. Sick, indeed! Do you have kids? Or should I ask, did you have kids? Do you have cake? Did you have cake?

I'll take the roastin' ears any day over the possum stew. Thanks for the biology lesson. They still look pretty darn similar! I met one (possum-probably a 6-pounder) while taking out the trash one night. Wished I'd had my Bersa at my hip. He gave me a nasty greeting!
  12. To Quote Ham: "I dunno.. What is the genuine.." I have it on good authority that: I Timothy 3: V2(A)An overseer, then, must be above reproach, (B)the husband (this would include fidelity, imo) of one wife, ©temperate, prudent, respectable, (D)hospitable, (E)able to teach, 3(F)not addicted to wine or pugnacious, but gentle, peaceable, (G)free from the love of money. 4He must be one who (H)manages his own household well, keeping his children under control with all dignity. (My take in that last phrase, regarding dignity, would exclude tyranny/dictatorship). It's easy to bully, but a greater challenge to lay down your "self" for someone else. And difficult to separate the two if there's a big ego involved. ~Cinder
  13. Quote: (Rascal) Outfield, I think that he was such a pervert by the time he made that class....that he had no idea how offensive and wrong that all was. He kept talking about how beautifully and wonderfully the human body was....and that if we were bothered by watching people having sex...we were just too immature to handle it. It just bothers me that he was so able to put my conscience and good sense to sleep to the point that I would accept that this was normal or acceptible in any way. (End quote) I was 17 and raised Catholic when I sat thru it, and had nary an idea about such things, except having been abused at 6 by a muckety-muck in our parish. I remember being repulsed, and don't remember much about the CFS "class", except that I survived it and was very glad when it was over. ~Cinder
  14. Extra tip for this waitress! Talk about yer fast service with a smile!! Belle, if I've read your story correctly, I was out before you were in, and it sounds like it was way worse (s'cuse the pun), in the 90's and beyond. I can't help but cheer on the sidelines for you, when I think of what you endured. Your healing and willingness to share it has been an inspiration to me. Interesting point about excusing some and booting others. Sounds like: Romans 2:15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;) ~Cinder
  15. Jeffsjo, I am SO sorry about what you have had to endure! Sadly, this was a widespread doctrine and practise, and even moreso from what I hear, after I left TWI in 1987. I'm amazed and ashamed that only recently it came into question for me. Not that I even gave it much thought in the past 20 years, but it pointed out to me thatthere are many things I still need to scrutinize. Part of my reason for starting this thread, was to unearth the awful hatred of this doctrine. Another part was to gain the insight of others who have been challenging it for years. (Thanks, all who've taken the time to post). ~Cinder Jeffsjo~ By the way, I wish you healing and wholeness and restored joy. The patrons of the cafe have helped me immensely in my journey, and I hope you will find the same! Waitress? A coffee for the man, please?

I hear there is a "proper" way to holler at a possum that stuns it, so you can catch it for supper. What's the difference between a possom and a rat on steroids? Just wonderin'
  17. And that is you, Ham, right? ~About to pontificate, excathedra of course, on the fact that it really was white wine at Cana?
  18. Whoa! Good eyes, Tonto! Where do you guys come up with this stuff? Instant Online Ordination? Almost feels sacreligious to capitalize! I caught the "point of passing" blurb too~ and the plug about the title, Rev. I wonder how many cults this site spawns daily.
  19. The first thing the Squirrel Division would encounter would be enough "Nuts" to distract them all! Bad idea, imo. Send the Rhino in FIRST.
  20. Waysider~ to quote you: "I felt like I was venturing out on thin ice, wondering when and if the ice would break underneath my feet. " I get that the ice is holding ~ kinda like in "Arthur", when the Saxons are marching across the ice after them, and they all recognized the dangers, the possibilities. To move forward took courage; to go back and crack the ice before the enemy could advance took courage. Just my thoughts~ Cinder
  21. "Well if it looks like a cult and certainly acts like one..... " It's probably a "QUACK!"
  22. I'll bet the phrase has a historical root. Buying a farm would normally be a pleasant experience if you're into farming, (and why else would you buy one)-unless the seller was trying to deceive you about the value of the package (like it's built on a toxic landfill or something-hmmm). I didn't buy the farm, but I bought a lot of produce from it- some of which was good, much of it made me sick. ~Cinder
