  1. Now, if you know anything about me... I LOVE MUSIC. ...So, this no music thingy for 4 months almost killed me. In a cage and with no music.

So there I was in my room, alone and I happen to put on a clock radio. Along comes some sr. corps person. They say... YOU know there's no listening to music. I said, 'Yes'. She walked away.

The next thing I knew, some big corps branch leader hauls me into Pat Lynn's office. It was over.

A la, what was their b*lls**t reason for not letting you listen to music (I'm assuming they meant secular music)? And why was this such a big infraction that you needed "talking to"?

I swear, every time I read crap like this, I thank God I never went into the Corps!

  2. Not sure if it was already mentioned but it always seemed to me that one unwritten rule was that any and all religious groups other that TWI were simply wrong if not devilish. This included the likes of Oral Roberts and Billy Graham and any major denomination.

I don't know about unwritten, but Mr. Wierwille certainly left no doubt in my mind how he felt about Billy Graham and Billy Bright in that SNS tape, "The Way of Life and Death". I believe I am accurately quoting him when he said, "To hell with them! That's exactly what I think!"

  3. Children should have no inconvenient needs and should act like they've been sedated at all times.

I'm surprised no one in "power" suggested giving depressants to children with 'inconvenient' needs. They could have even marketed their own brand, maybe along the order of, say, "Doulos Downers."

    :asdf:

  4. Belle, I'm happy for your growth, for how far you've come in these last 2 years.

Having left in 1987, before the entire Way structure was systemically poisoned by overreaching control and mistrustfulness of the individuals who actually made up the "ministry", I have read the posts of you and others who have had your trust and dignity abused with horror and sadness.

Yes, I know (now) there was lots of abusive things going on even back in "the day", but it seems like it became the way of life after LCM came out of his "fog funk". What the "leadership" demanded of you was never within their right to do so. Maybe someday, they'll figure that out.

"When WHAT flies out of my butt?" :biglaugh:

Perhaps one positive thing you might take away from your Way experience is, How sweet freedom is.

And how you must guard it every day.

  5. Perhaps it's time for someone to have a "red-balloon" revelation, declare the Corps program to be an old fores.., uh, I mean old wineskin, and dismantle the program. Even in their "rosiest" daydreams, the Corps program has to be considered a failure. The vast majority of people who've gone through that program are not only not in "leadership" positions in the Way, but no longer even associate with that organization.

There could even be a bright side to this: They would no longer have to pretend they're training leaders to go forth spreading their message. They could consolidate their efforts into focusing on their primary mission.

    Whatever that might be.

    :who_me:

  6. On the surface, this would actually seem fairly innocuous. Refreshers in grammar, automotive maintenance, world history (Early history of New Knoxville? <_< ) etc.

But with anything connected with the Way, I just haveta ask, "Why?"

First of all, why haven't they converted from tapes to CDs? Easier to store, probably more widespread personal applications (home, car, portable), might even be cheaper to produce.

Then, as some of these topics are of such a general and widespread nature, have they included weblinks or some other resource material not directly produced by the Way. If not, why not?

Is this material available to non- and/or ex-way people? If not, why not? Maybe some "outside the Household" might have something to offer which would actually enhance and enlighten.

Shortfuse, you may be correct that this is much ado about nothing. Certainly there's nothing wrong about the topics themselves, and may be of interest and practical application to their intended recipients.

But I wonder about the motivation of an organization whose primary mission (biblical research, teaching and fellowship) is such a failure.

  7. LOL - Howard came to Chicago in the early '80s - talked about toilet paper at an area meeting on the south side of Chicago - you can image how that went over.

Not sure if this has been discussed before, but what's the deal with HA and toilet paper/JAL's toilet paper holder?

  8. Check out Criterion's release of 1927's "The Passion of Joan of Arc" if you haven't already. It contains the greatest performance of an actress ever captured on film, IMO.

I second that! I'm not normally one to rave about silent movies, but that one's a real find. I was most impressed by the clarity of the print and the relative subtlety of the acting. And also the history of this particular print, thought to be lost but amazingly was found in a Norwegian mental institution.

  9. Happy Belated, excie! I hope you had a great one.

Have you gotten your invitations from AARP and the Red Hat Society yet? Doesn't seem right, does it?

    We can't be this old!

I'd say more, but it's time for my nap. :sleep1::biglaugh:

    <<<<Big birthday hugs!>>>>

  10. ...my last supervisor sucked all the joy out of scrubbing toilets.

    :asdf:

How sad do you have to be to do that to someone else?

I sincerely hope your last supervisor has found a life and perspective outside of the Way, cause that's just wrong. Oy!

(I was going to say, "How 'anal' do you have to be..." Aren't you glad I didn't? :) )

  11. I've noticed that the Mormons are being regarded less and less as a 'cult' nowadays.

I wonder if being more 'mainstream' might have anything to do with that?

You have Donny and Marie to thank for that. :biglaugh:

Seriously, when your religious group tends to be hard-working, positive, cheerful, low-pressure to convert (at least in my area and in my experience) and prosperous, most people tend to gloss over the more "non-mainline" beliefs.

  12. Sprawled,

Peter Wade also occasionally checks in here. If you like, you could ask him in a Private Message.

Or maybe he will answer you in this thread. He seems to be a genuinely nice individual.

Or you could take my class on Contacting Peter Wade. :)

  13. Once the ministry got involved (at least locally), it was a nightmare.

And that, unfortunately, is the pattern of the Way International. When people are doing things of their own accord to bless and fellowship with other like-minded people, natural growth may or may not occur of its own accord.

When TWI gets involved and starts making the rules, natural growth and excitement come to a screeching halt.

Ah, well. When people finally get tired of being pushed around, they'll do something about it.

  14. You all are sooooo hellbound, you know that, doncha?

I can already smell your "chestnuts" roasting on an open hellfire.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nice try at deflection, MDVADEN. Too bad most people on this forum aren't buying it.

The things of which I'm guilty is physically, financially and emotionally supporting an organization which ostensibly offered a greater and better understanding of God and Jesus Christ through their own "unique" research methods (not knowing the leaders of this organization were woefully deficient in their understanding and application), ignoring the "red flags", and not always treating people in the manner they should be treated - with kindness, respect and open-mindedness.

You want to compare that with the practiced evil that went on at the highest levels of the Way? Be my guest.

  15. :offtopic:

My parting words were, "I wouldn't take this crap in 'the world,' and I'm certainly not going to take it here, where people are supposed to be loving each other."

Boy oh boy...I wish every "innie" could read that. Not just the ones working at New Knoxville, but in every "household fellowship."

You don't have to take the accusations, the lies, the innuendo, the character assassinations, the inordinate and (dare I say it) insane demands upon your life and time. There are kind, loving, decent people outside of the Way International sphere of influence. It's time to re-join the land of the living.

Sorry for the derail, but Linda's statement spoke loudly to me this afternoon, because I always felt that treating people kindly, warmly and compassionately should be the absolute minimum standard of behavior in a home-run fellowship. If it's not, then perhaps it's time to re-think a few things.
