  1. There seems to be a lot of unanswered questions in Jonestown.

Bottom line -- what is YOUR point?

There's always, in the historical record of ANY significant event, going to be more details and issues than can easily be documented or summarized. What of relevance to the issue of religious cults are you presenting or suggesting?

  2. I just finished watching my recording of this documentary (skipping the commercials).

My primary impression, based on my experience in TWI and what I've read about how things went after I left, I believe that Wierwille never had a degree of psychopathology, including paranoia, that would have or could have caused a tragedy on the scale of Jonestown. However, the raving maniac that Martindale became, OTOH, if he had remained unrestrained, likely would have ended in some kind of tragic events.

The fact that the Allens had the audacity to launch a legal challenge to TWIs unethical and immoral (and unquestionably NOT founded in scripture) practices served to provide that necessary restraint on Martindale.

Without question, many people suffered various degrees of harm because of what did take place, but I'm most thankful that it never got worse, or as bad as it could and would have without TWI having been effectively challenged when it was by the Allens.

  3. I never suggested that he did not own the place or that he could not do as he wants to. I just expected that the end result would be equal for everyone. I did not realize there were different rules for different people. I thought better. I guess I was wrong.

Or maybe you just view it differently than (almost) everyone else has...

  4. Ya know folks... THIS forum isn't necessarily a democracy. I know that Pawtucket listens to other view points besides his own, but it IS HIS WEBSITE.

There have been times when I have needed to accept that position. What would be the problem with suggesting White Dove accept that Pawtucket owns the place and can give direction as he sees fit.

Like Mstar pointed out... it was polite and gracious. Why would ANYone have a problem with THAT?

  5. I saw part of that I wonder if it'll run again? It is hard to watch that for me.

It's due to premier on Sunday... I'm pretty sure MSNBC intends to run it many times.

including 4 times on Saturday Nov 15

  6. I loved your post NIKA. We do have hope, and as a united country, we can accomplish so much more.

I voted for McCain, but not out of extreme support. I guess it was out of fear and indecision.

When I heard Obama's speech on Tuesday night, I was moved as I saw a man who believes and cares for this country. He even addressed those who didn't vote for him by saying "And to those Americans whose support I have yet to earn – I may not have won your vote, but I hear your voices, I need your help, and I will be your President too." That shows me heart. I believe he will work to unify this country.

Political party lines have divided this country in a huge way. Politics is an area which causes people to speak and treat each other in terrible ways. Maybe we can become one nation indivisible. Maybe we can learn to hear other points of view without tearing down.

It is impossible to have a President who makes every single American happy. That job is not one I would ever desire. But I have a huge amount of respect for Barack Obama. I did not feel that way until Tuesday night after he won. I look forward to the future again.

    And I love your post.

Wonderful insight. And apparently any fear and indecision you may have had wasn't overwhelmingly deep.

In addition to what you said, I saw a man with vision that hasn't been articulated so well since Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I have a dream" speech.

That vision has made him immensely qualified. And thankfully, he will not have to do all the work -- necessary for there to be a hopeful future -- by himself.

  7. The win was without question, but the popular vote was fairly split clearly a country divided. Thanks to the electorial vote system it won him the election. Now how that happened is another story.

Even the popular vote was more decisive than it has been... definitely a bigger margin than Bush had either time... 52-46 percent... and 364-173 is better than 2 to 1 electoral vote margin... that, to me seems VERY convincing... Clinton had bigger margins in 1996, but Bush was nowhere close to Obama's margins in either 2000 or 2004.

  8. Barack Hussein Obama

There all better, no matter how you spell his name it won't change who he is.

No, it won't change who he is... nor will it change who he is NOT.

Two words for you: COPING and STRATEGY... it's going to be just fine, even for you.

  9. Of course it is . It's the first step to voter fraud and ridicules concessions made in this election to buy and steal an election in any way possible. If that fails there is always the Black( Nightstick Panthers) to get the job done.

You forgot his real name didn't you .

    Barak Hussain Obama

I did not... but YOU misspelled two out of three of them...

You could take a lesson in graciousness from Sen. McCain.

  10. registering people and getting them to the polls and legally seeing their vote is counted is NOT stealing an election. Stealing an election is perhaps more likely what we saw to get Bush elected twice, if you really want to go there.

Enjoy your evening, I certainly am.

  11. From what I've been hearing if Obama wins either Fla or Ohio...it's over.

    Joe Scarborough at Huffington Post

Florida resident Joe Scarborough talked about Barack Obama's incredible get-out-the-vote initiatives in his home state, replicated nationwide, with David Gregory on election night at 5:30 pm. Quoting a top Republican official in Florida he spoke with last Friday, Scarborough said, "Forget about it. The race is over. Barack Obama won it and he won it early." He added that Obama's 7-week campaign to get-out-the-vote buried any attempts by McCain to win with a 1976-style 72-hour effort.

    ---

Obviously, that's not any kind of official declaration, but it probably won't be long before it becomes official.

A fun thing is to be able to vote for someone you know well. My oldest son's favorite teacher of all time(now retired) is running for the state legislature, and of course I voted for him. And you have to think that a race in one legislative district in South Dakota, a close race percentage wise could be decided by a very few votes, whereas in a national race, a one percent victory margin could be, what, half a million to a million votes? Anyway, it is not of the realm to think that my vote could really make a difference.

On the other hand, I think there is more involved here than that, like in the case of the presidential race if your state is a lock for one candidate or the other. I really do think it is important to be heard. Is it strange to get excited at a vote total of, say, 98.306 and think how that would only be 98, 305 without my vote?

    I concur.
