  1. In Arizona we have a "stupid motorist law" for those who ignore posted warnings about floods and still try to drive through the flooded area. They are responsible to pay fines and for the rescue workers who have to save them.

The same should hold true for those who refuse to leave an area that were given evacuation orders due to an impending threat. They put themselves in harms way by there choice. They should pay for there decision if they need to be rescued.

I think it's probably a bit more complicated in the case of evacuation orders... for some people anyway.

With the stupid motorist law, the situations are significantly simple, cut and dried (pun intended) and therefore not likely to generate legal challenges to the assessment of rescue costs.

  2. I used to "time out" every once in a while, but I'm careful to refresh a window while I'm

composing long posts now, so that doesn't happen.

If your Firefox configurations are set to "refuse cookies" you may have trouble with

messageboards. I had accidentally set that, and was wondering why a different

board wasn't letting me log in. I figured it out when I checked my settings.

I understand that concept... that's NOT the case with me...

The good news is that I did NOT have to RE-log in this time. So, maybe someone here at GSC fixed something...

  3. Doojable said the same thing last night. I don't get logged out while on the forums like she does, but the "Remember Me" thing seems to not work all the time. I have to reenter password at least twice a day when I open the greasespot bookmark using IE. Mozilla seems to keep the cookie just fine.

    ~HAP

    I use (Mozilla) Firefox exclusively.

  4. Micah Owings, one of the "players to be named later" in the Adam Dunn trade, hit a pinch hit double for the game winning rbi against the Dbacks in Phoenix (in extra innings) tonight.

It serves the Dbacks right for giving up on Owings.

  5. For you history fans Sports Illustratedthis week has an article linking baseball to England in 1755...

So there you have your first baseball review. Being from England Im sure that the Origins researchers are having a great time with it.

Who would have ever figured that the first baseball names would be

    "Miss Molly Flutter" ?

    or "Jelly"?

    :biglaugh:

What Great baseball names! ---bet they couldnt hit the breaking ball though.

Okay... the journal uses the expression "base ball." But do they know whether the game he named has any resemblance to what started in the US in the 1800s?

  6. Well dont Forget Yogi

"In baseball you dont know nuthin"

    and

"It aint over til its over"

Im not saying things will change.. its probably not likely---but you never know

...the Mets and Rocks had completely unpredicatble finishes just last year

Im sure its especially hard after tough losses like that,

but you never really know----baseball can change on a dime

    Good Luck

Well, fret not. My pessimism about the remainder of the Dbacks' season will not be the determining factor. If they get it together, I'll rejoice with and for them... I'm not going to hold my breath, however. :wink2:

  7. Sorry there Rock

thats about the worst day of the year for me.

I'll lift a beer in your direction tonight....

    How over is over?

    over over?

Now 3 games behind the Dodgers, after now losing 6 in a row, two of which they had engineered 9th inning come from behind rallies... one to tie, the last one to go ahead. They couldn't finish off the GIANTS. 0-6 road trip.

I'd be VERY surprised if the Dodgers fell apart and the Dbacks came back to life to make the playoffs.

That's how over over is. :cryhug_1_: (yes, it's sad, but no, I'm not overly depressed about it).

  8. Yeah, Francona's line in there's pretty good.

btw, the Dbacks season ended today. They lost their 6th in a row and second in a row in which they had come from behind. Last night, they got a two run HR to tie in the top of the 9th, only to lose to a walk off hit in the bottom half.

Today, they came from behind 2-1 with a two run triple in the top of the ninth only to lose to a walk off two rbi hit.

    RIP 2008 Dbacks... :(
