  1. speaking of Trolley Dodgers, I sometimes refer to them as the 'Superbas', another early name for them. Especially when they're playing like they have lately.

Manny is unbelievable. Whaddya know-Mstar was right. You would think some of it would rub off on the others. I do think the Superbas have a very good nucleus of players built from within. Martin, Loney, Ethier, Kemp, even DeWitt. They really should be playing better than this.

But then, so should the Dbacks...

  2. I need some ideas on some activities that can help a person with stress.

I have a new job that is going to require that I find some outlets.....I LOVE to read....but with being in a masters degree program, my reading time is usually delegated to assignments from classes (though I DID get some trashy reading in this summer while off from work and school!)

What I need is something I can do to help with stress while I am working full time, going to school full time, and having a husband and kids full time.

I LOVE to cook...in fact my kids and I have an ongoing challenge of finding recipes for each other that we don't think the other person can do.....and then doing it! However, I need a few other de-stressors for my new current job.

    Any suggestions?????

Sleep is number one. Do NOT let yourself become sleep deprived. Sleep deprivation will aggrevate every potential problem you face, most significantly, your physical and emotional health.

Exercise is also fundamental. At minimum, find time for walking.

There are plenty of other possibilities, but those two things are essential.

  3. That's not the whole story... something about air samples from the trunk of her car that tested positive for a decomposing body being present there at some point....

Sorry, she's nuttier than squirrel poo and needs to be locked up - for good.

Yes, but she was out on bail for the charges related to her daughter's disappearance. She was rearrested on the fraud related charges... indeed, locked up for good... that's the idea of throwing away the key...I think!

  4. Not a baseball day goes by that I'm not thankful for Vin Scully. One of these days he's not going to be there, and I fear it will be sooner rather than later.

Jeff Kent made no friends a couple of weeks ago , when he dissed Vin, saying he 'talks too much'. Kent was hitting over .400 batting ahead of Manny. My 7 year old granddaughter could tell you he was getting better pitches to hit because of it, but Kent threw a tantrum, contending that no one gives him credit for 'improving his game'. When he heard Vin refer to Manny hitting behind him as an aid, he got indignant. Of course the big question was how Kent was hearing Scully in the first place, while the game was on.

The fan reaction was as expected. You don't disrespect Vin Scully.

    I agree completely.

Daren Sutton, one of the two Dbacks TV guys (main guys, others fill in when Grace is doing Fox Saturday games) PLAYFULLY got on Scully's case a few weeks ago... but made it very clear it was only playfully, because, as you said (and SUTTON KNOWS) You do NOT disrespect Vin Scully.

And Sutton and Grace are VERY playful during game broadcasts...

  5. Let's see, the Dodgers have lost 7 in a row, and I think are still only 3 games back. It's not the NL Worst for nothing. If they get lucky in AZ this weekend they'll be tied for first.

I don't think those Trolley Dodgers are feeling very lucky these days... they made it 8 in a row and are now 4.5 behind the Dbacks.

Manny didn't do half bad tonight... 4-4-4 and scored two of LAs 3 runs. He had two strikes on him with two outs in the 9th. Instead of being the last out, he doubled... only prolonging the agony.

that's hilarious! ...the only thing it lists is that he's married to Jamie... which is something to be proud of IMO!

(I have some other thoughts about her, but this is a family place after all!)

Yeah, wasn't she just nominated to be Vice-president or something? :biglaugh:

  6. I found something fun the other day and thought some Grease Spotters might get into it too. It's a website to determine your personality type. It's a system that describes nine personality types and according to Wikipedia is used in many mainstream publications on the subject and is being applied in a variety of applications, including business, psychology, psychotherapy, organizational development, career coaching, the arts, health care, parenting, education and spiritual growth.

When I took the online test [it's the first link I've pasted below] – I scored highest as a thinker and second as a peacemaker. Interesting enough, I scored lowest as a leader – I'm sure I'm gonna hear about that in my next Corps evaluation :biglaugh: . I imagine we've got a few overachievers on Grease Spot who will claim they operate all nine all the time. :biglaugh:

    Take the personality test here:

    I'm a peacemaker.... (NOT!) :biglaugh:

  7. :biglaugh:

as i was saying--the human element---

IMO It has to stay part of the game

"Baseball is a game of adjustments." I don't know who said it first, but it's said a lot these days.

Replay is just one more thing to adjust to... and WE have to adjust to it at least as much as the players and coaches and umpires. And we will... eventually.

But I understand the need to vent about it. :wink2:

  8. Thanks, Rocky.

You *can* revoke bond and that's what the bounty hunter is most likely going to do, now that they've got proof that Caylee's decomposing body was in Caylee's car.

I thought this bizarre story had made it national. Sorry, but it's just about all you see on the news when they aren't talking about hurricanes down here.

It is national, but not with as much emphasis as it must be in your community.

How a mother (or a father) could do anything like this is just beyond my comprehension. Imagine how bad Caylee's grandmother must be feeling now.

  9. Air sample tests from Casey Anthony's car show a decomposing human body was inside the trunk, a sheriff's office official just confirmed.

Meanwhile, California bounty hunter Leonard Padilla said Anthony has made no effort to help him find Caylee, he told the Orlando Sentinel on Wednesday.

"She has not communicated with us at all," Padilla said. "She has no interest in communicating with us."

Padilla, whose nephew posted Anthony's $500,200 bail last week, said if he knew what he knew today about the case, and that the 22-year-old wouldn't cooperate with him, he probably would not have helped get her out of jail.

    ****

DUH! Anyone in Orlando could've told him (and did) that he was an idiot for doing posting bail.

Can he now revoke the bond and send her back to prison? How does that work?

I've never had to deal with anything like bail/bonds, but it would seem reasonable that if he wanted to say "never mind" he should be allowed to do so...

  10. I am not sure exactly what information you are looking for, is it just what kind of discharge a person has? Also, is this for a relative, yourself or a deceased relative? Next few days is gonna be tuff to get it so quickly I thihk, privacy rules and all,

also, are you looking for OFFICIAL (like from the Navy itself) info or just some verification

    ~HAP

Jim and Hap are correct. Unless you are the person, there's not much you can get, let alone get ahold of quickly... regarding military history that is... Military records, for the most part, are NOT public records available to everyone.

And yes, as Rumrunner said, the DD-214 is THE form that has the information you are looking for, but unless you get it from the person him/herself, good luck.

  11. The edit involved removing information posted on this thread about a private communication from another poster. That poster did not wish the message to be made public. Since it was a private discussion I said it shoud remain private.

    Oh, okay... thanks.

  12. Hey, I haven't been able to access the John and Hope's Ning site.... tried last night and now tonight. Anyone know what's going on?

The site is finally back online! :)

  13. Well, anything I was thinking or potentially implying can be found in the essence of what dooj added.

Yet, RG, it's quite obvious that before the most recent history of modern civilization it was difficult to even IMAGINE exploring space. So, to me it's understandable that no one writing down scriptures could have even seriously considered what's in Genesis to have included space exploration.

I personally would prefer more of a focus (in the scientific community) on what is now the recognized field of Sustainability, than on space exploration. But it's absolutely inevitable that mankind would be needing to expand the (actual physical) boundaries of what we know. And as soon as people were willing to IMAGINE exploring space, doing so became inevitable.

To me, it seems that what C.S. Lewis did was to read scripture and use his imagination.

Can you IMAGINE how long Galileo must have took after gazing into the sky with telescopes, fighting with his own mind trying to avoid the realization that the earth is NOT center of the universe? But at some point, he could NOT avoid the realization of what he was observing.

Change is difficult. For one person as well as for society. But it's in our genes to explore. Set a new horizon, and someone is going to find it necessary to explore beyond it.

  14. I remember LCM ranting about "the only reason for a space program is military dominance!" I disagreed, of course; and it was one of the reasons I got booted from TWI. For me, Psalm 19 is plenty of reason for a space program (i.e., to learn more about God). No particular reason to LIVE on other planets, though.

    George

Well, didn't God say something to Adam and Eve about going forth and multiplying? Was that limited to earth?

I could rattle off a couple of things I've gleaned from interesting cable/sat channels (like the Science channel or Discovery HD theater) but that would only provide fodder (IMO) for people to suggest God would not want that or if we trusted God we wouldn't need this, etc.
