  1. It was 104 today, and is still 97 as I type this, at 10:30 at night.

AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH. Give me a blistering hot summer day over a cold winter one, any time!! Yes, we're a bit sweaty, even though we've been inside with the air conditioning. Drink lots of water. Hydrate with tomatoes from the garden; they are at their peak right now. Bring it on!

I have noticed that something else is growing. I planted an Obama sign in my front yard a few weeks ago, and now they're popping up all up and down the street. Several of them, and my street is only one block long. Could lead to dancing.

  2. it's 101 degrees at 9:03 and there's some idiot in a full gorilla costume at the game...

I can't imagine he's got a Phoenix Suns jersey on too... THAT gorilla knows better than to do his thing when the a/c isn't on!!!!

  3. Okay... there's one inning... Chamberlain got the call on everything remotely close. Padilla got nothing.

I can see it now... Padilla is gonna start plunking NYY and then maybe the ump... Padilla's not the most popular guy with umps, sure looks like that might play into it...

my money is on Ron Washington not making it through the night on the bench...

And it's another 100+ scorcher in the Big D today, isn't it? That can't be helping...

  4. Lost in Manny-mania is Casey Blake, who is quietly hitting .364 since coming over.

Hokey smokes-I'm starting to think the Dodgers can not only win the division, but get to the Series ! Somebody hit me ! (I know Rocky will offer)

Of course Nomar just went back on the dl, after a brief return to the lineup, so some things never change.

another double post-maybe I just can't take the excitement

Naw... maybe I'll just offer to give you a gentle elbow jab in the ribs to wake you up. >;-)

However, I'm sure it will take more than just two games to tell whether adding Blake and ManRam will be enough. The Dbacks are still pretty good and yesterday's game just got out of hand. So, hopefully it will be a good race to the end of the season for those two (Dbacks/Dodgers) and no doubt the better team will win. And if that ends up being the Dodgers, so be it. I have to still like the Dbacks' chances because they do still have good pitching and overall reasonably good hitting.

  5. really nice piecs on Bill James on 60 minutes right now... says David Wright of the Mets is his favorite player...

I saw that before... I know CBS says this is a new episode of 60 Minutes, but that story is not new. It IS very interesting.

  6. I was at the Dodger game last night. Manny owns LA right now. The home run was one of the sweetest I've seen at Dodger Stadium, and he also hit a rope up the middle. The fans are going crazy for a change, and Manny seems to be having fun.

I enjoyed watching him and Don Mattingly interact. They seemed to be deep in conversation throughout the game. Wish I had that bugged.

A fine night at the ballpark.

He certainly makes it look easy... but we all know it's certainly NOT easy.

Wierd play just now... Casey Blake knocked Chad Tracy's glove off as Tracy went to catch Blake's infield pop up... finally, after the umps conferred, Blake called out.

  7. wow... I just looked and we're almost at 200 pages and 4000 replies... good work folks!

uh-oh, just saw the seven day forecast, here it is (starts on Sunday) 107, 106, 102, 100, 101, 102, 101

and this isn't that "dry heat" like Rocky and Simon have... when I got home from golf (2 gatorades, 3 32oz cups of water while out... still haven't peed) the temperature in the shade on my patio was 108.3... kind of makes the 93 that it is right now feel comfortable... anyone want my electric bill?

Do you need any more freon? Blocks of ice for your backyard pool, perhaps?

  8. Is it against the current rules for me to suggest that AnotherDan lighten up a bit? ...have a sense of humor? :biglaugh:

    My gawd peepull!

Probably not... that's something you're good at. I'd hate to see you get in trouble for it. :)

  9. As has been pointed out (by Groucho, I believe), this is not a public site. It's owned by Pawtucket, and if he wants rules, there will be rules. Yes, there are already rules. There are apparently going to me new rules. Perhaps he will "boot the Wierwille apologists" as Groucho votes. Perhaps he's smarter than that. We'll see.

Badges? We don't need no steeking badges!

edit: the Rules are posted under "Rules" in the top bar of this web page.

Methinks our stRange friend knew already... :)

  10. I'm on the side of that cop in the video.

I'll bet you a dollar to a doughnut that he had a reason to do that.

Of course he had a reason. But was the reason related to the actions of THIS rider? I doubt it VERY much.

Now as for that cop throwing down the cyclists, that's a different matter entirely, and sorry DMiller, I break with you on this one. There was no reason whatsoever for what that punk pig did. At all. One can be against a lot of what Critical Mass is doing, yet still bust that cop's balls for what he did. Hopefully, he'll get thrown off of the force.

I agree... especially about the conclusion.

  11. Just a thought:

If you carry out the "I won't condemn" thing too far you have a problem.

What about sitting on a jury for a murderer?

I'm more willing to say that I get to use my brain and common sense and assess people and situations as they arise.

Will I always get it right? Nope.

I'm not so sure the "judge not, lest ye be judged" admonition relates to our duty to serve on juries...

  12. So far ManRam has been no factor in his first game as a Trolley Dodger... unless you count letting a Chris Snyder bloop drop in front of him for a base hit... Snyder later scored the second run for the Dbacks who now lead 2-1. Both starters are out of the game... Chan Ho is on the hook for the loss and the Big Unit is in line, at this point, for the win.

But Manny's dreads sure look good in Dodger Blue.

    Bottom of the 9th:

Russell Martin singles to lead off.

    Manny grounds into a 6-4-3. 2 outs.

    Kent out F-4, game over.

Win number 293 for the Big Unit.

  13. It seems to me that Dr. Wierwille had many opportunities to turn from his wickedness. Just DWBH's posts alone about confronting Dr. with the abuse that was starting to come to light in the ministries councelling efforts seems like God was at work to help Dr. turn. It seems to me that Dr. was incapable and/or unwilling to change.

In most cases like that IMO God doesn't have many options besides letting the offender go head-long into the mud, so-to-speak. Not that it's good to put God in any kind of box in our thinking, let me say that God CAN let someone continue in error and therebye be a BASTARD biblically speaking. It seems to me that in Dr.'s case the SHOE FITS.

I have to imagine that wierwille had many more situations present themselves wherein he was given the opportunity to turn from his wickedness...

  14. What is so very telling to me about Victor Paul Wierwille is that God left him alone. He didn't correct him, he let him bury himself up to his neck and wallow there.

God doesn't violate free will, right?

Like Balaam and his mule, one only accepts correction when one becomes open to it... which poses more serious questions about that man's ministry.

  15. (yes, we'll still be here talking baseball... the great game!)

  16. Dumb question, I'm sure....

Can you still drink on these diets? Like is an occasional beer or glass of wine or cocktail okay?

In terms of "strictly speaking," I don't know.

In terms of common sense, given that any such "diet plan" is primarily a guideline (or set of them) for developing lifelong healthy eating habits, I'd say (based on discussions with nutritionalists/dieticians) that it would depend on how frequent the occasion.

Indeed, there are some benefits to the occasional beer or glass of wine (especially red wine).

  17. I just wish the stRangers were in the NL West... we'd be in the playoffs for sure!

    A likely story...

reminds me of the time -- on the golf course -- I hit a nice 4wood t-shot that went straight at the pin... but was a bit too strong... I made some sort of "if I had done... it would have..." statement. Was playing a round with a friend and another twosome we didn't know... the one guy barked out, "yeah, but you didn't!"

    Yeah, but they're NOT!

  18. hey, I'm thinking I may become a Manny fan-which makes me wonder if we're living on the Bizarro world now !

There are times when home runs in Dodger Stadium are as rare as a Gagne save.Of course it doesn't hurt to have players that can actually hit them !

I'll keep you posted on any Manny news you may not get otherwise, mstar.

Speaking of Gagne, I was watching the Cubs/Brewers game yesterday on WGN as I was waiting to be unchained from the ICU and Gagne takes the mound for some mop up time with the Cubs ahead 9-1. On a 3-0 pitch to Edmonds (who had homered twice earlier in the game) the first batter of the inning, Gagne throws behind Edmonds. The ump didn't hesitate even so much as to breathe before giving the ol' heave ho to Master Eric. Pretty quick meltdown for the hairy youngster, I'd say...

He's in his own world and it took some time around here to undertsand his rhythms and to get used to it..and what it was... I really hope there is enough time for him to do his thing in LA and for you guys to see it-Its tons of fun and the just the pure joy of baseball when he is on----of course he could also be the second coming of Nomar too--nobody really knows--

It would be good for Manny and good for all of LA if he ignites though....i wish you guys didnt play so late I wanna watch!

    Hey!!! I heard that!!!! :P

  19. Its been a helluva few weeks--I got food poisoning about 10 days ago, then contracted Lyme Disease last weekend, then Manny got traded.... :(

This will all pass, but Im still stunned...

I better start sending in my ABS to Tom or something.. <_<

I'd be happy to facilitate godly distribution of your ABS for you! :spy:

Don't have a cow... but I had a coronary, and it wasn't about Manny going to the trolley dodgers!

Fortunately, the Dbacks have been playing well lately (probably -- at least in part -- because they again have Tony Clark in the clubhouse)... so, it MIGHT be too late for the Dodgers anyway (I hope so anyway)... but if the Dbacks can win this series with the Dodgers, that might make it a bit harder for those in Blue to over take the snakes.
