  1. Yeah, I took that class ("Blessings of Liberty") many years ago - in 1976 or 1977. I think it was Albany NY (I know it was a live class), and was in the Fall of the year. I even recall taking it or portions of it "again," on audio tape. Odd, how that there seems to be a "class" for every purpose under heaven. But then, without classes . . . -I'll stop that train of thought there. I don't remember whether Hayes' org. at that time was called Christian Political Alliance, or Constitutional Political Alliance. I know the name was changed to the latter at some point. Anyone remember a weekend in the word, or maybe it was a heartbeat festival in Philly (April 1977) where on the last day (Sunday) someone suggested to VP to take up a collection to benefit Hayes? As I recall, VP was hesitant at first, then said ok, as long as it wasn't done using the Horns of Plenty - I seem to remember they used water pitchers. -------- Per

    Breakfast Recipes

Oh, Zshot, that sounds tasty. I have something similar to that for breakfast (or at least a major portion of bkfst) mostly every day. I like to take a banana, container of lowfat fruit yogurt, a little milk, 1/4 cup uncooked oatmeal, and maybe a kids chocolate cookie and mix it all up in a blender and make a shake out of it -- sometimes even add a scoop of ice cream!! I prepare the shake the night before, and fill a kids thermos full, with and the leftover (about 10 fl oz) going in a plastic cup. Both go into the fridge. I drink the cup of shake first thing in the morning (around 5:00 am) before going to work, and drink the thermos contents later in day (afternoon) at work for an afternoon snack. :)--> Per
  3. Thanks Johniam! I've exchanged emails with one of her sisters ® about a year or so ago, who, at the time, lived in the STL area, too - good to hear Dorothy is out, married with kids, and happy. _____________ Per
  4. I've got a few ROA memories of ROAs from '75 thru 94). I was only 14 at my first rock - '75 at Lima - wet time, but slept off the ground in my bro's van - my bro went wow that year, and i caught a ride back with some of his friends to upstate NY. '76 sidney - the Doulos Dennis Root Beer Saloon (root beer, peanuts) Other years . . . singing in the "Way Chorale International" - did that for a few years, even had a blue t-shirt from it, although the guys had to wear black pants and white shirt. -- "Hearts and Crafts" tent - some really neat stuff, or so I thought at the time. -- All manner of T-shirts - I think my favorite had a very simple design - a silkscreened "Christ in You" t-shirt with Uncle Sam pointing his finger. -- Lot's of the States and areas within states had their own t-shirt designs. I can remember some of the ones in NY state - I was from NY's "Area 5" ("The Jive 5 is alive," or some such stuff). -- All-time Favorite job - conductor on the people transports. You got to sit in the shade, and pretty much got to see everyone you wanted to see. I really did get some job satisfaction from helping people be safe while riding (kindly telling folks to wait until we stopped before boarding or getting off, etc.)- did that job for a few years in the late 80s. Being the conductor on the front wagon was best - as I recall, we didn't move until i gave the OK (received ok signal from rear wagon person, made sure no one was between wagons, etc., then signaled tractor driver). In the early 90s I worked at one of the beverage stands for a few years in a row (North Bev. Stand, I think) That was a so-so job, and looking back, I was puzzled that we weren't "allowed" any free drinks, or snacks while we worked, we had to pay for them. I thought it was cool when they had the motorcycle raffle - I can still remember the sound when the guy, who won a years use fo that old 40-something Harley, started up the bike. The sound is also on the "Rockin at the Rock" cassette - one of my fav albums. Family tables - even got to sing with a quartet at one of the tables. Running down Wierwille Rd. - had to keep up the exercise. Meeting people from different parts of the country, and seeing old friends. I think this was my favorite part of the experience - sure, at the time, I thought the teachings were good, but those you could slap those on a tape and hear them. Kind of hard to put a person on a tape and enjoy them. That's one part of the experience I miss - seeing all manner of folks from all manners of places. But now, we have the internet that allow similar interactions in real time. Tenting was fun - except the times when it rained - always seemed difficult for me then to keep water out of the tent - one time woke up to find my Bible floating. Wish I knew then what I know now - the Bible wouldn't have floated, but then I might not have been there in the first place. Well, there are probably a lot of memories that don't come to mind right away. Oh, someone earlier in this post mentioned meeting someone named Dorothy P. from Jersey - I knew a Dorothy P.from Jersey -- gotta be the same person. The time frame for me would have been '79 -'81 when I'd have known of her. She had several sisters and a brother, too, as i recall. A really wonderful family. Anyway, the Rock was certainly an experience for that part of my life. Basically, was the annual vacation for me for many years. There are many memories from that time that I'll hold on to. Per.
  5. Paula Smith was the name of the tennis pro. I think she won a Virginia Slims tournament back around 1983 or so - also was part of a doubles team with . . .who was it, Candy Reynolds? Martina N. and her doubles partner beat Paula and her doubles partner on a few occasions. Per

    Band of Gold

I vaguely remember a song by that name - from circa early 1980s. I probably still have the cassette the song (the one I'm thinking of) was on. The one I'm thinking of was sung by a male vocalist with guitar or other musical accompaniment. Might have time in a week or so to dig it out. Per

    Virginia

Looks like northern Virginia is the place to be on Saturday evening (2/19). Per the Open forum and the "Let's have a D.C. Gspot party," several Gspotters are getting together to party with Steve! and Cindy!, as they visit the Nation's Capital!!! Per
  12. Steve!, I'm game!! Would love to get together - and I'd love to be able to bring the peruserettes (life just isn't the same without the little ones to accompany--they are so much fun!!) We might be late depending on timing, because we have swim team practice in early evening. Thanks, Flow7, for your offer of holding this at your place. I'll keep tabs on this forum for more details on timing and location! Per

    Its Groundhog Day!

Then, back on the farm, we didn't honor groundhogs (woodchucks) in the same manner as Phil and his peers are coddled. We honored them by termination. Either allowing other people to come and shoot them, or by gassing them (plug all their holes in an area but one, then connect a pipe from the tail pipe of the tractor to their hole and let it run for 20 minutes or so.) Can't have those chuck holes on the farm, they do a serious number on cow's legs, and also serve as "potholes," jarring you if you drive over them with a tractor. Per

  19. I enjoyed 'Atlas Shrugged,' read it just a few (~5) years ago. Also read 'Anthem,' but much longer ago - high school. "We" liked that book, too. I admit skipping over several pages of of 'Atlas Shrugged,' I just didn't have the patience to read every word of those "streams of conciousness." 'The Fountainhead' is one of Rand's I haven't read yet, but plan to, once I finish the LeCarre' and Clancy books that I'm currently reading. ---------- Per
  20. I knew a Joel Palmer - not tall, nor overly short either - but definintely a very nice person. The Joel I knew was in, i think, the 22nd or 23rd corps. He also has a brother named H***y, and used to live in NY. Last I knew (4 yrs ago), he was in Colorado. Per
  21. My hat made it in one time while I was standing near the gazebo where "New Horizons" was singing - at the 1981 rock. Then another time, I was singing at the rock during Chorale practice but, someone (vp) about 10 feet away from me was between me and the camera. That was sometime in the early 1980s. Oh well. Per
  22. Nametags - yeah, and those lapel pins. I had a bunch of name tags as did many here (wow tags, AC tags, AC special tags, pell my name. I recall jokingly thinking (many moons ago) of getting a sash to wear to put all the name tags on - something like a scout merit badge sash. aaaaaak!! Then there were the lapel pins. The old style WOW pins with the Americas on the right side, and the newer pins with the Americas on the left side. Also, outreach athlete pins. A pin for every occasion. I put plenty of holes in my lapels, until i got "smart" and used the name tag clips - the little plastic thingy the nametag goes on with an aligator clip on it to clip on the lapel. ----- Per
