  1. Oh my gosh, that was a good game. I must confess at the start of the game, I was rooting for the Packers, but then I quickly began cheering the Giants. It was like they were executing better than the Pack - with the exception of that one long TD play by Favre - and they seemed to play with more heart than the Pack. I was surprised the Giants were able to overcome all the mis-cues during the game, and still win it. The Pack at Lambeau is usually formidible. The Giants should bring a good game against the Pats - although this game will most likely be played in much warmer conditions than up in New Jersey/Meadowlands - unless Arizona has a cold snap. Should favor a good passing game, which both the Giants and the Pats possess. Ok, will wait this one out - GO PATS!!
  2. The Patriots-Chargers game was a little closer than some probably expected - even me. The Chargers gave a good game, but in the 4th quarter, the Pats just had it together and put the game away.
  3. AFC and NFC championship day!!! I'm looking forward to an exciting game between the "new America's Team" Patriots and the Chargers. Be interesting to see how the Chargers play their first game of this season in below freezing conditions - although I don't think the weather will be much of a factor, as long as it's not windy. Being a Pats fan, I'd like to see the Chargers get annihilated - although a closer game would be more interesting. Now the Giants at Green Bay - I'm not sure who I want to win that one, although my leanings are toward Green Bay - I'd like to see a Farve-Brady stupor bowl. I hear it's going to be brrrrrr cold in Green Bay tonight, so should be fun! GO PATS!! Per
  4. Yeah, I can remember stations signing off - and there being snow or a test pattern. We had 3 maybe 4 stations that we could get reception for - usually a little snowy too. Ah, and the radio shows - I know there were some good ones that were very popular before I came of age, but I do remember some of the more recent ones - like story time with Art Linkletter, some 30 second or so spots of "Chicken Man" - you know he's everywhere, he's everywhere!! -- good ole Benton Harbor - mild mannered something or other. Never had the "sound of the milkman's truck" early in the morning, but do recall the sound of milking machines on our farm - the electric compressor motor that made them run had a slow stacatto noise - something like "psh-psh-psh." Cows milk - fresh/raw - whatever you want to call it - was pretty good. That, and farm fresh eggs tasted good. And I can remember hearing the noon-time siren blowing at the fire station every day - from the village a couple miles away. I don't know if small towns still do stuff like that, certainly not around where I live now. Ah the memories - if you're gettin old, you'll have them, hopefully. Per
  5. Yeah, he did have some extra time back there . . .five on three - guess that was the gamble the Jags decided to make - maybe to keep extra secondary D-guys on Moss. Well, guess that gave Welker and others more business. I just loved Brady's acting play where the Jag defense would have sworn the running back had the ball, and then realized . .. "Oh Crap, he doesn't have the ball . ." and, then "oh crap, it's a touchdown!!! One heck of a clinic. Was good to see the Chargers down the Colts. Be interesting to see a rematch of SD against the Pats - this time for the AFC title. Another team for the Patriot grinder. On a futher note, it was nice to see the Giants beat Dallas. I didn't see the entire game - I wonder if TO was truly healthy? Anyway, I don't think the Giants have a prayer against the Packers - but that's just my opinion.
  6. It was a good game. Garrard and the rest of the Jags showed some poise - but, then the Pats showed poise, too. Curious who will be next (SD or Indy) for the grinder?
  7. MStar1, I can almost feel your pain . . . it's been soooooo long since Tom Brady has had a football in his hands in a real game. . . just take a few deep breaths, and think about Jaguars getting "shaved" in Gillette Stadium on Saturday evening. Should be an exciting game!!!! I am really looking forward to this . . once again to witness the greatest NFL team of the modern era, and this time they're on safari - hunting Jaguar. I hope it's nice and cold for the game. - just checked out a weather site (wunderground) and the temp will be in the mid thirties with light winds. Per
  8. Glad that I'll finally be able to watch it. I was peed-off over the last two weeks that i couldn't watch the Pats games against the Ravens and the one against the Dolphins w/o having to pay to view, or go to a sports bar. Guess I'm just spoiled over the years with being able to watch on regular network stations. I was almost aghast that those games weren't on the networks - I thought to myself on my soap-box - "what, are these network execs brain dead - and miss the chance to televise to our great nation the greatest team in modern NFL history play for yet another record win????" I know they want to make more money by not giving the game "to the masses," but doing so can certainly improve image. Heck, the Pats are the new 'America's Team'!! Guess the execs got their noggins popped out of their nether reaches. :) Per
  9. I just had to get a Patriots thread rolling - to honor the "one of the greatest NFL Teams of the Super Bowl era (I just know that statement will fire up the rhetoric with some folks, just as it fires up my son who is a rabid Redskins fan) -- if a thread on this has already started elsewhere, i beg your pardon and I will go and clean my glasses. I'm jazzed the Patriots have done so well this year. Even with a few bumps in the season's road where the games went "down to the wire," it has been an exciting, sometimes nail-biting, season so far. Games are more exciting when it comes down to the last minute or so to decide the game. Now, with just one "giant" game left for the Pats in the regular season . . . all I can say is YEAH, GO FOR IT Pats! Although, the Pats don't have the super bowl wrapped up, I think it's very highly likely that they'll be there. I'm curious who the NFC will send . . . might be nice to see the Redskins there It truly is a good year for New England sports fans! Yeah Red Sox, Go Pats, Go Celtics . . . Per
  10. Thanks folks! :) :) :)
  11. I just finished watching the game. A nail-biter until near the end. The Colts played very well, or so it seemed. Their running back just chewed up the defense of the Pats. I was happy with the final result, as I like the Pats. Brady seemed very methodical at the end of the game, engineering the comeback and victory. The defense also seemed to play tougher in the 4th quarter, finally getting to Manning. It'll be nice to see the Pats go undefeated. Per
  12. Saturday's game: 10 - 1, BoSox!!! Yeah!! I luv it!! Per

    Seminary

Their web site states they are accredited by the "American Accrediting Association of Theological Institutions" (AAATI). While I read Akribos' discussion on accreditation, and agree in general principle that one may not need the rubber stamp of approval if one is truly competent, I wonder whether AAATI is themselves recognized in the field? Or, is this an example of a "circle of recognition," if you'll pardon the expression, where one non-recognized organization "approves" another? Just my musings . . . Per

    Another Accent Test

What American accent do you have? (Best version so far) My Results: Northern You have a Northern accent. Yah, that's right. Up there in northeastern NY.

  16. Wouldn't suprise me if the knuckleball was a little more effective as the weather cooled - the cooler air is slightly more dense - and the nature of a knuckleball - tossed around by every wind of doctrine - would likely jump around a little more. Anyway, I luv to "hate the Yankees" - esp. to see the Red Sox beat them. That's my $0.02. Per

  18. Neat site. I got 100% - but had to make tick marks on a paper as I recited the NT books to get the count. Oh well.
  19. Baseball - yeah!! Our local little league’s opening day is coming up in mid April – with a big parade followed by opening ceremonies attended by local politicos ( usually our US Congressman attends and throws out the first pitch) and a bunch of games. This is my son’s third year doing little league, and he’s jazzed to be on a AAA team. At almost 9 yrs. old, he’s again the youngest, and about the littlest, on his team. He’s feisty and approaches the game with a passion. He loves playing infield, vacuuming up grounders. It’s a pleasure working with this team – we’ve got a great mix of coaches and players. Plus I get to run around, throw, and hit with them. Per
  20. I agree, the "Kid" probably has better insight to issues directly affecting students than some adults might have. His inexperience in tackling other school board issues should be minimized by his familiarity with the types of things he's heard over the years that he has attended meetings. Being an Eagle Scout should speak volumes about his character and his ability - depending on the quality of his Troop's leadership. Attending board meetings over the years should have taught him practical "rules of order" and other such formalities, plus some familiarity with issues typically brought before the board. Also, the board is more than one person, so there is the team to address issues - and as long as the board can work together - and not be at odds - positive things can happen. Around here, I think the only criteria for candidacy is to be a voter, be 18 yrs old, and have resided in the district you want to represent for at least a year. Also, depending on the population of your respective district, you may need a certain number of signatures on a petition for candidacy. Out of curiosity, did the "retired teacher" have the "Kid" in any of her/his classes in previous years? If so, that might be an interesting dynamic. Kudos to the "Kid"! Per
  21. My ROA years were from '75 through '94. That included two wow send offs, and two returns. I have many positive experiences at those events - mostly related to seeing old friends, making new friends, the music, food - mostly the social aspects of the times. Things like the "Doulos Dennis Root Beer Saloon" with root beer and peanuts - at Sidney in '76. I can remember the music group "Agape" (or maybe a portion of the group) doing some numbers at the "saloon" on an evening or two. Also, the "Ambassador One" fly-overs were pretty cool - at least they were at the time I saw them. Not so much fun memories included: wet tents and floating Bibles, over-zealous b.p.'s with the colored caps, and the heat. I did enjoy working the "people movers" - those blue covered wagons where I had the pleasure of working as a "conductor." I got to see lots of buddies I might never have met up with just hanging out, and also help keep people safe while the tractor was pulling us down the road. Working the drink stand was ok (good in that I got to see lots of people), but I could not understand why we weren't allowed to have a cup or two of drink (on the house, as it were) during the shifts. 22. Mr. Hammeroni, I remember a lunar eclipse - a full one too, at the Rock- I think it was 1989. The eclipse peaked sometime around 10:30 or 11 pm. I sat down with my fiancée in the grass in a dark area, either near the parking lots or the basketball courts - can't recall the exact location, but it was dark enough. We laid back and watched the eclipse and several "shooting stars." Per

    New York

Hi Mdsnpp, we just might know each other: - I was in northern NY in late 70s - I sent you a private message on the board. Canton (St. Lawrence, ATC, townies) was sure fun - lots of seemingly excited folks. Per
  24. Ha ha, Jonny!! I also like PB, bologna (or basically any cold cut meat) and mayo. . and add some cheese in it too. Better even if its 'grilled'!! Another combo I like with PB, cheese and mayo is bacon . . nice crispy bacon, and with bacon, the sandwich definitely needs to be grilled. I'd have to agree, Hellman's is the cream of the crop for me with mayo brands. I've only met a handful of people, apart from my siblings, who like PB and mayo . ..one of em here at gspot (tho I haven't seen the person here in some time), two at the office, and some others over the years.
