  1. So you're aware that hurts delivered by others can be lasting ones. However, the anger at vpw, lcm and others here range from the PERSONAL (as in "he looked me in the eye as he ruined my life") to the offended ("he ruined their lives without a moment's hesitation") to the chagrined ("everything he said about himself was a lie") and so on. Most of us are convinced that vpw should have served hard time in jail for the felonies he brilliantly concealed. Most of us are convinced that lcm was taught by vpw to do the same things, but lcm was tricked into thinking they were right to do, and wasn't aware they were wrong, so he wasn't so elaborate in covering his tracks, and was caught. It can be shown beyond REASONABLE doubts-and it has been-that vpw's image of himself was wholly constructed, "his" "unique" teachings were more than 90% lifted directly from a handful of other Christians, and when he was "original", he was generally inferior in material to the original authors. vpw made up doctrines that permitted himself to indulge in vices, and sin all he wanted, and say it was all right. Anyone who looked like they were going to tell someone was kicked out FAST and their reputation RUINED so that they were cut off from everyone. Small wonder that a few people committed suicide when kicked out of twi. I'm not even hitting all the main topics. Let me know if you need pointing to them. Many of us are still Christians, and consider vpw to have been a faker, a charlatan, who copied the work of legitimate Christians and at points served God IN SPITE of being a worker of iniquity and setting himself up as Lord over God's heritage. (I'm in there somewhere.) Many of us were burned badly, and have looked in other directions for answers, and have found answers that they believe serve them better than the ones they got in twi. Considering they're not committing the same crimes vpw did, I'd say their answers are at least morally superior to his answers. Oh-and those of us who are still Christians often conclude that a relationship with God isn't as heavily dependent upon either daily Bible study or SIT as we were taught. Feel free to look around and catch up. Or not, as it suits you. The GSC allows for free thinking, unlike twi.
  2. What if I wasted all your time-time? "Just What I Needed", by the Cars.
  3. He was a member of the Legion of Doom! Oddly enough, Green Lantern's ring energy seemed to be effective against Sinestro's ring. He also popped up once out of the air, saying GL couldn't find him because he was hiding in the anti-matter universe of Qward. As if it was that easy to go back and forth. BTW, there's a GL Corps and a Sinestro Corps now, and Alpha Lanterns, which seem to be based loosely on Alex Ross' Kingdom Come GL. I wish this Kingdom Come worship would end. The story was different, but the closer you look at it, the more some glaring deficiences become obvious. I liked the story before all the hooplah.
  4. "How long have you had the beard?" "About four years. I think I just got tired of hearing how 'young' I looked." "We are conducting a survey of gaseous anomalies." "How interesting. So are we." You've guys have been in the zone lately, so I think this might do it....
  5. I know that-as early as the end of the 1960s, when he met D**p and H33fn3r, vpw had rationalized that orgies were accepted by God, because D**p reported that vpw had offered his rationalization for them to D**p, who wasn't buying it. If there were orgies, I would have no idea-I wasn't where or when I could have found out about it. All I know is that vpw was cool with them-according to vpw, and according to vpw, God didn't think they were "BEST", but made them "AVAILABLE."
  6. Well, it was definitely a big one for vpw, we know that. He described a video of two women- and a DOG- to students in the CFS class, and those he didn't describe it to, he SHOWED THE VIDEO. I don't buy this "he had to show them a video of two women having sex with a dog so they knew what was out there" excuse. Frankly, he said more than I needed to know just when he DESCRIBED it. I know what women look like. I know what a dog looks like. I know what sex looks like. Just tell me the components, I know enough about what's on the video, thank you. And he was AMUSED describing it. My brain was screaming "WHY ARE YOU TELLING ME THIS?" at the time. We had different attitudes towards this subject, it appears. I don't know if vpw bought videos when he visited San Francisco, during his "House of Acts"/Haight-Ashbury tour. J1m D**p said vpw visited "adult" video stores there at the time. That's PROBABLY when he got the video I just mentioned, but I'm speculating. Now that my head isn't screaming about vpw describing a video about 2 women and a dog, I can actually ask myself what should have been some obvious questions. Why was there no corresponding story about a video of two MEN and a dog? Obviously, one fit what he wanted to say, but the other one didn't. And either ONE is condemned by Scripture, or NEITHER is, logically. But, yes, it was NOT about God or Scripture- unless that "god" was "vpw's lusts" or that "scripture" was "vpw gets to do whatever he wants". It indeed WAS about power, and the women were DISPOSABLE to him.
  7. I think people, in their own fashions, are trying to say they don't think it's going to work. You see, first of all, current twi people aren't ALLOWED to go on sites NOT approved by twi, to discuss twi. GSC posters who posted on the GSC while in twi were kicked out of twi. One fellow IN twi made a messageboard, and there were some POLITE (I read them-they were polite AND tactful, if you can believe it) posts there by non-twi posters. Immediately after that happened, twi clamped down on the messageboard, and he wasn't permitted to allow posters who were not current twi members. As for non-twi posters, those already being served by the GSC get post-trauma flashbacks when someone shows them pictures of lcm and vpw without warning them first. They REALLY, REALLY don't want to see them, and don't think much of either man. (Feel free to ask me to point you to WHY they don't think much of either man.) So, this board can serve, possibly, ces/stfi, cff, and other organizations' ex-twi, as well as independents who aren't in any ofh them. That's supposing ces/stfi and cff allow their people to post. And they and independents want to post. And can FIND it. If they know it exists. That having been said, hey, it's your messageboard. Have a good time with it.
  8. There's got to be a "Journey" fan here SOMEWHERE....
  9. "How long have you had the beard?" "About four years. I think I just got tired of hearing how 'young' I looked."
  10. In 1989, lcm sent a letter to all of us saying that he was firing a bunch of our leadership, and included a list of everyone from Branch level on up to the Limb. He said they were all evil and corrupt, and serving themselves rather than serving God. We'd interacted PERSONALLY with them. We were hard to convince THEY were corrupt. Me, I went to the following ROA. I expected a chance to buy at the bookstore, and either a correction-which I'd be present for, or more of the same as the letter-in which case I'd get a chance to PERSONALLY review things, ask questions, hear answers. The answers were all phrased politically, the events all felt staged and empty. It was as if that ROA was put on by people working from a description of one, and never having attended one. And the low points were all when people got to the main stage and spoke. I used the opportunity to say my goodbyes to a number of people who all attended that one as their last, and we all faded away after that. I "left" the official organization in Ohio, but I "stayed" with the unofficial organization in NYC. lcm's foolish decision to boot the leadership together meant we had a unified structure to work with, and more people LEFT from 1989-1990 than stayed. (lcm did that with every state at once.)
  11. I'm so used to being able to access information effortlessly, that this didn't strike me as amazing. A few centuries ago, access for EVERYONE to any of the codexes would have been amazing, flabbergasting. I think that the printing press and the internet have been the 2 most amazing inventions for the Bible student. It's so amazingly amazing that we don't even find it shocking at all.
  12. Yes. I forget how literate some posters are....
  13. That means anyone who WANTS to be 'next'-is 'next'!
  14. "He who permits himself to tell a lie once, finds it much easier to do it a second and third time, till at length it becomes habitual; he tells lies without attending to it, and truths without the world's believing him. This falsehood of tongue leads to that of the heart, and in time depraves all its good dispositions." "I never submitted the whole system of my opinions to the creed of any party of men whatever in religion, in philosophy, in politics, or in anything else where I was capable of thinking for myself. Such an addiction is the last degradation of a free and moral agent." "There is no act, however virtuous, for which ingenuity may not find some bad motive." "I agree with you that there is a natural aristocracy among men. The grounds of this are virtue and talents."
  15. A suggestion-if you quote your first set from a show, then erase the "quote" tags, then add the new set, someone can read them as one post. You can keep doing that until you have a lot of stuff there..... Ok, let's see. At first, I didn't think I could narrow it down from the 2 episodes. However, I think the second one was enough to narrow it down after all. This is when Worf exercised the Right of Vengeance to kill Duras after Duras killed Ambassador Kehlayr. Worf agreed to bring in Kurn's task force on Gowron's side of the civil war- the side NOT being supplied by the Romulans- in exchange for his family's honor being restored. Part I of a 2-parter. Frankly, I had expected Picard and Riker to have stopped Worf at the last moment when he killed Duras. Instead, Worf-like a real fighter in a battle- finished off his opponent before finding out what the distraction was-since Duras might have turned the battle around if he hesitated. Did I get it?
  16. That's when they ignore you and immediately pick a fight with someone else, hopefully loud enough to drown out what you just said.

I don't think that added anything positive to the discussions. Inclusionary online communities get this from time to time, depending on how tolerant the staffis to let things go before stepping in. So, I've seen this outside of ex-twi circles. I haven't seen it TOLERATED this long, but I've seen it. IMHO, making it a "twi thing" adds complications we do not need. If we need to discuss conduct, then so be it. I don't see this as being twi-specific NOR twi-exclusive. I know I took a day or two off from participating in them, since I didn't see any way for me to improvethe situation, and thought a little time off would help me balance my perspectives, which would help me to post civilly. I don't think this added anything positive to the discussion. Are you daring us to join your discussion? I prefer to wait on a post until A) I have time, B) I have something to say that I think is worth posting. I don't always have those at the same time. The moderators here are fond of letting the adults work things out for themselves, as I see it.That hasn't changed the past week. I think the difference here is in where one draws the line. You've chided some people for how they approach what they considered to be callousness towards the suffering. Perhaps the answers aren't quite as easy as you'd prefer. Me, I'd prefer they'd be easier as well, but I'll work with what I have. Actually, I made a case that this was happening-and that it was the fallout from what was alreadychasing off people looking for answers. I'm willing to look at some other answers- so long as they're different from what was tried already-since I'm convinced the old approaches got us here. "If you disagree with me, you're 'flaming me', making hurtful comments for no reason, and lacking regard and compassion for me." Cute-trying to get in the last word. I don't think this post was particularly POSITIVE- since it included a few digs into the other posters. For someone who wanted to have a dialogue on polite discussion, you sure didn't wait long enough for people to log in who might have been, I don't know, busy for 24 hours or anything. How serious were you about it? Actually, I was figuring I'd have something to add to it today, but if the main person interested in it is running off, that's not exactly going to motivate me to bother...
  18. I have it narrowed down to 2 episodes, so I'm hoping the next quote will break the tie.
  19. I think the legitimate supernatural incidents are hard to find when they're surrounded by so many overinflated claims that were the product of exagerration and a desire to find SOMETHING to label as supernatural. In case I was unclear, I'm saying that was the case with twi. It's no longer the case, IMHO, since virtually all the genuine Christianity has been bleached out, so the current twi has no legitimate claims to mix in with all the exagerrations now.
  20. You have to restart the computer to install any new antivirus or firewall ANYWAY, so you restart, and then uninstall AVG before opening the internet connection again. IIRC, right-clicking on AVG icon will give the option to CORRECTLY and COMPLETELY uninstall AVG from the ENTIRE computer, including the Registry, with one click of the mouse. A) I did it my way the other week.B) My way means the pc is protected the entire time it's connected to the internet. ZA is fine-it just conflicted with the Microsoft Hotfix, and immediately released a new version that doesn't conflict.
  21. Ah- I would install the NEW antivirus program, THEN delete the old one. Another thing is that Windows' last hotfix was incompatible with the old version of ZoneAlarm, so it was causing ZA to block my internet access entirely. (It was denying the ISP.) ZA's home page explained a bit. So, I had to uninstall ZA and reinstall ZA's new version. That or use a different one-but I've been happy with ZoneAlarm. I wasn't worried too much about my pc while that was down. First of all, I had an antivirus and other programs working. Second, I activated the Windows Firewall so I had SOMETHING working while I added a REAL firewall. If you don't have SpywareBlaster and Spybot:Search and Destroy, you should get both. Each has a function that protects the pc like a firewall from certain spyware/malware. All you have to do is download it, update it regularly, and activate the protection, and they both will do that 24/7. (Spybot also has a scanner you can use. You should run that, and AdAware, regularly, every few days, or everyday while you're having pc trouble.)
  22. We've all got our favorites. Dan Didio announced that his FIRST thought when he got the "big chair" in DC was to KILL OFF NIGHTWING, since he wasn't Robin, and wasn't Batman. THEN he found out the gut response of the fans was to collect rope, torches and pitchforks. He was completely unaware that Nightwing has had a loyal, vocal fanbase for most of the existence of the character. When DC first made messageboards, Nightwing was the ONLY character who had a busy messageboard but did NOT have his own series. (So they gave him a one-shot. Then a miniseries.) Nightwing's "only" been around since the 1940s, is a mainstay of the DCU, and FRIENDS (not just an "associate" with, like Batman and a lot of others), but actually FRIENDS with a lot of heroes. He's even better at leading teams than Batman, and he's a sort-of legacy to both SUPERMAN and BATMAN. And he's led the Justice League. Both the main team, and the Task Force. But Didio is clueless. Frankly, I've been wondering for years what qualifies him to hold his job- I can trace every misstep in DC back to his office, for the past several years. To be honest, though, having Hal Jordan snap after the past few years wasn't a complete shock- it was a reasonable response to having been driven beyond reason. He needed a mandatory leave of absence until he was fit to work again, and instead the Guardians lashed out to punish him. THAT's when he actually snapped.
