  1. Not to derail (or anything like that), but I'm getting REALLY SICK AND TIRED of folks denigrating news sites that DON'T agree with their personal perspective on the world situation. I'm not singling you out Hap, but yours was the last post I read here about this, so I'm using it for convenience's sake. I see this as an "on-going problem". So what if someone gets "news" from a source you don't care for personally?? Debunk the info therein, rather than the site that offers it. If you can - - - great. If you can't, don't attack the news site rather than the content being offered. This should apply to both sides of the topic-at-hand: Poster A quotes from one news source ---- Posters B through (ad infinitum) ridicule Poster A for even subscribing to the views mentioned there. Before you know it, it's the veracity of the news source in question rather than the topic at hand, and any and all discussion about the "problem" grinds to a halt, while accusations of the source escalate. Too many are fixated on ridiculing another's source of info, and "dissing" (whichever) news network that info came from. Keep it up, eh? Sounds like all the old arguments revisited between Corps and Wow as to which was better and why, with neither faction listening to the other, each convinced they followed the "correct path" to "spirituality". Now - - - back to topic, if possible. <_< Oh - - - edited for speeling misteaks, in kase you wundered.

    Song of the moment

The tune is SALLY GOODIN. Had the privilege of sitting under banjo picker Alan Munde's tutelage once many years ago. Here he is, fooling around with a "pick-up band" at some place in Texas.

    Caption Contest

There once was a girl who begat three triplets, named Mat, Paul, and Tat. It was fun in the breeding, but hell in the feeding when she found there was no tit for Tat.
  4. < < < ----------- My real name. No smoke or mirrors here. Hey there Caleb. Welcome to Grease Spot. I'm old enough to be your grandfather, so (if I may) I'll offer some advice here. Are you wanting to share your experience with SOWERS? If so, folks here will be interested in hearing about it. I saw your retraction about the "fighting issue", and was glad to see that. Antagonism never gets you anywhere. Especially here at GSC. You need to realize that many of us were burned by twi, and have little (if any) love for the org. You can extoll the virtues of what you went through/ are going through all you want, but if it sounds like twi - - - You need to realize you're going to be facing criticism from those who have gone through the same, albeit in a different time and space. So - - - have at it. To say you've taken on a monumental task is an understatement. Good luck, and God bless.

Happy Independence Day. It's time to regain it, eh?

  8. Oh. Good. My "humor" has run a bit dry (these days). I didn't catch yours.
  9. It's posts like this that denigrate the authority of Grease Spot as "TWI's morning cup of reality". Anyone with half an ounce of sense in their brain would clearly see this as - - - nothing more than speculative rhetoric designed to humiliate, with NO substance to it. I guess you can't "kick em in the balls" anymore, since Rosie is in charge, eh?. Regardless - - - It makes more sense to me to point out REAL BS propounded by twi, than it does to speculate about things like this. Just my IMO. :B)
  10. "Just" is a four letter word that seems to have permeated the Christian community. I think it's become "mandatory vocabulary". The more Evangelical/ Pentecostal/ Apostolic a group is, the more you hear the word "just", both in prayer and everyday speech. There's times I'll JUST tune into Christian radio, and JUST listen to whatever programming is going on over the airwaves. I hear it used more and more (these days), than ever before. And it was also quite prevalent "back in the day", there in twi. I remember a branch meeting of the WOW's here in 1979 with Rod Mc@** delivering a directive from Hdqtrs, disguised as a teaching. He used the word *just* JUST as often as he could, to tell us that we should knock it off. Far as I can recollect, it didn't work. Tune into any (your choice) bible radio teaching, or go to a church you've never gone to. I'm betting you'll hear *just* said quite a lot. Twi folks certainly did use it often, but they didn't have the corner on the market (then or now), when it comes to *just*. :)

    Thank you

Words of advice from a friend of mine (non-way), but they're applicable. "Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - coffee in one hand, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO HOO, What a Ride" Welcome aboard, eh?

    What a Crock!!!

Good grief. You live in the Land of Obama. He may have moved to the white house but his residual droppings (metaphorically and politically speaking), are still a stench there in Illinois. Did you really expect better?
  15. For what it's worth - - - this is an EX-TWI board. Yes. Twi is the main focus of concentration here. As it should be. I suppose you've heard the term "There's bigger fish to fry"? Is that the suggestion being promoted here? There are forums here that allow folks to express political opinions. Wear your asbestos undies when you go there. Garth and Hap both (with whom I disagree with constantly on political issues), just gave you some good advice. Were I you, I'd heed it and take it to the bank. Their advice is a check that will not bounce :) (edited for a spelling mistake) :o
  16. Mark - - - Well said. :eusa_clap: Though flippant in my earlier post, I'll echo your thoughts here. 24 years ago, I was on L.E.A.D. out in the Badlands of South Dakota when an armed, uniformed Park Ranger came looking for us. Seems Headquarters had gotten hold of the South Dakota Park Service to search us down, in order to let us know of docvic's passing. Knowing only what we did then, we (I) felt sorrow. Knowing what we (I) do now, anger followed. Anger was healthy then, but less so now with the passing of the years (just my imo - - - as usual). Like everyone else here on this site, I've wondered if he ever was a Christian/ born again/ etc. My conclusion?? I neither know, nor do I care. It's NOT up to ME to judge. Someone else has that job, instead of myself. You probably haven't heard of a bluegrass group called Daily and Vincent, but here's one of their songs. It's called "I Should Have Known You Lord". Listen to the lyrics of this tune. Apply it to "life as you know it". It would have been a fitting epitaph for docvic's gravestone. Along the lines of the one there now. Something I can agree with. (PS --- Who'd a thunk it that I'd make my 14,000th post "defending docvic"???) Well -- I'm not defending him here by any means. Perhaps doc will be singing this song at the throne. There's a chance he'll have his say. If so -- I'm sure he will be heard and judged accordingly (as the rest of us will). Oh ---- Here's the song I mentioned. Daily and Vincent "vocalizing" what's on docvic's tombstone.

    Sistine "Chapel"

Am guessing if docvic REALLY made the "big time", the vpwwow auditorium mighta looked like this?? Regardless -- got this in an email from my cousin. I've never been to the Sistine Chapel, but this looks like it might be a close second to an actual visit. ;) Here's her email to me: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Subject: Sistine Chapel THIS IS GREAT!!!!!!! Use the displayed arrow keys to move around the chapel; don't forget to look at the ceiling. Also, click the end button to enlarge the image to full screen. This is the most incredible scan I have ever seen. Absolutely wonderful and beautiful. Go up and down and all around. And look at the ceiling from the various alcoves and aisles. A unique view of the Sistine Chapel. Click on website link below: http://photoartkalmar.com/Photoart%20Kalma...ircheflash.html ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Enjoy. :)
  18. Hey there Mstar. Happy birthday! That Deering Goodtime banjo must've been your present to you from yourself, eh? ;) Here's a few folks playing "Shove That Pig's Foot A Little Further Into The Fire" No banjo on this, so feel free to jam along and add your own break to it! Again --- Happy birthday and happy picking. :)
  19. Dear Dave, HUH? I am marginally better with music than computers and I fully realize that is not saying much. Hey there Jeff. I was agreeing with Waysider. :) The concept that twi taught (as Geo pointed out), was "give it your all", while ignoring what's going on around you. It's a fine line between "doing your best" (as taught by twi), and recognizing the reality that happens to be occurring right around you at any given moment. Sure -- It's good and admirable to "give your best", but in the musical context given above --- "giving your best" requires the musician to take an occasional break from playing, so that the entire song has a sense of cohesiveness. Whatever music you like to listen to, listen to how some folks come in strong on their instruments or vocals, and then back off so the rest of the band can fill in, so as to make it (the song) a complete entity. Sure --- It's a recording from a recording studio, but the principle applies. By giving 100% doesn't necessarily mean playing all the time. I can't speak for Waysider, but what I meant by my comment was merely saying that "pausing" at times within a tune or song or an orchestral score keeps you "in sync" with the rest of the band and one doesn't have to go "balls-to-the-wall" the way twi taught us to do, in order to be giving 100%. Hope that makes sense. :)
  20. Both Belle and I were responding to a question posted by now I see. Nothing more, nothing less. :)
  21. Playing "devil's advocate" here --- It's the rests and stopped measures in music that keep you in line with the rest of "the tune". Usually what you DON'T play, keeps you "in step" with the rest of the band, as well as with the one conducting too. In this case --- less is actually conforming to the "norm" and thus it's more than "good enough". It's what's required. :)
  22. The link is in the thread ETANOD, which spells DONATE, backwards. :)
