  1. It's been missing for years. I'd thought about it time and again and looked for it in vain. Wasn't really a big deal, but I knew that it was something I never tossed with the rest of the stuff, so it had to be around here somewhere and it kinda bugged me that I couldn't find it. Fast forward through the time I looked for it until last week when I decided to purge my bookshelves of books I will never read anymore. Books destined for Goodwill/ troops overseas/ etc., anything I knew I wasn't going to read again -- color those babies GONE. So --- I'm cleaning out the bookshelves, and I see something hiding back behind a row of books. Small. Blue and Gold. Oval. Can it be?? Yes it was. It was the WOW pin I earned (30 years ago) and had been looking for (half-heartedly) staring me in the face from behind forgotten books. How it got there I've no clue, and I had mixed emotions when I picked it up, looked at it, and held it once again. I thought about 1978-79 and all that the year that little pin signified. So many good times. So many bad times. Mediocre times too. Regardless of the *times* I had that year, here was tangible proof that I had gone through it (for better or for worse). Got to thinking about the org books I've gotten rid of. Thought about all the SNS tapes I've recorded over. Those were dispensable. Looking at that pin reminded me of so much that happened that year, and I'm glad I found it. I don't have a suit to put it on (or an occasion to wear it anymore), but it's a keeper. :)
  2. I was looking for (and couldn't find) the pictures from the 2nd Southern Comfort Weenie Roast. Bunch of nice photos from the past there, but they seem to have all disappeared. I'm probably wrong, but from what I remember of those pics, I'm guessing (just a WAG -- mind you), that you're the fellow wearing the vest (based on the smile), but having said that, I'll say also; I'm not discounting the pens in the pocket of that other guy either!
  3. Dark humor. OK. I'll take it as that, and you at your word. :)
  4. Hmmmmmm. And this is a from someone who works with technology for our space program/ exploration/ etc. (excuse me if I didn't get your job description entirely correct). Please --- stumble on, on your way into work.
  5. Minney-soda has a few left up here. Couldn't give you a number or anything, but I doubt if it's significant. Last I heard, Minnesota was now part of a "region" rather than in a limb by itself. Too few folks for limb designation. I know of a "twig" 25 or so miles away from me, but nothing else here in town or in the surrounding area. Nothing like it used to be, that's-for-sure!
  6. Does "Favorite Flavor" have anything to do with Drambuie, or is that even flavored?? I haven't a clue.
  7. Mine was stolen from the back seat of my car, 7 years ago. Nothing else was taken. CD's/ cassettes/ all other *stuff* left right where it was. Bullinger KJV bible --- Missing. Go figure - - - - eh?
  8. Imagine hauling this BBQ grill down the road behind your truck, en route to a "get-together"!
  9. Not sure about lcm's rants, but if you get hold of "The Red Thread" (SNS tape #800, or was it SNS tape #801?), docvic *lost it* at the end of the teaching. I think it might have been Drambuie withdrawal, or sumpthin!
  10. Personally - - - I think they'll all get their "rewards" (cough! cough!), in heaven. However - - - if you have some tar and feathers handy (these days), count me in. :)

    Song of the moment

Ron Block (banjo), Allison Krause (fiddle), Jerry Douglas (dobro), and a very young Sierra Hull (mandolin). On the stage of the Grand Old Opry. :)

Cool Mando!! Solid spruce top can't be beat!! I agree -- small neck, but fun to pick! This is me with mine. (1917 Gibson F-2) :)

Yes. Your chin (pressed down on the chin rest), should be supporting the fiddle more than your hand. The left hand does so (somewhat), but it isn't the primary source of support for the instrument. Arch your left wrist. Palm away from the neck. Fingers vertical to the fingerboard. I've never taken fiddle/ violin lessons, but that's advice given to me by my grandmother (who taught me piano). Arched wrists are where it's at, so you can "attack" the string/ keyboard/ etc. with maximum efficiency. :)
  14. Dorian --- As the saying goes, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. Sounds like you've done your best. The rest is up to her. It's up to her to decide if she wants to "drink" from a stagnant pool of water, or a fresh one.
  15. They don't have to, since the offshoot leaders have their own mailing list (well --- at least one I know of does).

    Guitar Talk

Hey there Rick. Sorry if I offended you by my post. I certainly DID NOT mean to, and I apologize if I did. :) Somewhere back (many pages ago in this thread) there was a discussion going on about how this thread turned into a you tube posting of people playing guitars, rather than talking about ax's, amps, strings, and anything pertinent to picking the guitar. Some of us felt that the instrument (and all it's *accessories*) were being passed over and forgotten about, while the pickers thereof were becoming the limelight instead. I'm as guilty as the next person of posting you tube stuff here on this thread, since that has now become the "norm". The part of my post that said: Was directed towards myself as well as the thread in general. This thread has gravitated from guitars, to guitar pickers. Besides -- I was (mostly) making comments about Dan Seal's guitar, and not about Quinn Sullivan (and I agree he is an amazing picker)! I couldn't tell you what I was doing when I was eight years old, but it CERTAINLY wasn't anything like Quinn! Thanks for sharing that video. I'm not a real big fan of the blues, but I'm a huge fan of talent - - - especially in youth. :)

    Guitar Talk

Saw that Dan Seals passed away (wayyyy too young), and realized after watching videos of him --- he picked left-handed. Plus --- the videos I saw showed him playing a 12-string guitar, with two pick guards. (One upper, and one lower). I'm a big fan of NO pick guards on acoustic instruments. They're a d@mn nuisance, and impede the sound of the wood. (Just my imo). Here's a pic of my 1968 Martin D-35 (sans pick guard): The pick guard is gone (I took it off 2 or 3 decades go), and the sound improved DRAMATICALLY once it was gone. I guess it is all about *show biz* to have two on the guitar while on stage, eh? <_< Don't mind me. Merely trying to get this back to Guitar Talk, without YouTube videos. But -- I might as well try to tell twi to teach accurate doctrine, eh?? Might get the same response from them too.

    Song of the moment

I read his obit in the paper today. Another good one gone. :(
  19. Computer files?? No wonder the internet was "off limits". Besides finding out info about the org (and the lechers/ drunks/ and other abysmally derelict characters running the twi operation), shucks --- you might find out what they knew about you, eh? Can't have that now, can we?? <_<
  20. Hey there Ham. It's on the front page of the site here. Death of Don Wierwille

    Obama on Leno

It was orchestrated, and manipulative. He said all the *right* things, while his current actions tell a different story entirely. Kinda reminiscent of ole docvic, eh?? Say one thing/ do another/ promote *abundance*/ and lead to poverty. If it was truly *informative*, perhaps he shoulda been asked why he signed the bill authorizing those bonus'. Naww - - - that would have been a *hard* question, and Barry isn't fond of them. His tele-prompter isn't programmed for *truth*. ^_^ ^_^
  22. I agree. What's more important --- the message, or the messenger? While you're at it -- cut off your nose to spite your face, eh? :o Some stories need to be heard --- regardless who tells them (just my imo).
