  1. I remember that teepee at the ROA quite well. :) I don't remember it being there in the mid 1980's, but it sure was a "centerpiece" in the campground area in the 1970's.
  2. Housed with others and forced to live on the grounds? Hmmmmmmm. I think I found a picture of the housing. Did I get the right one? I'm not sure.
  3. AOS?? It was all about Craig's ego, and his "supposed" ability to dance. (my imo).
  4. Hey there No longer in Limbo. :)
  5. Seriously - - - if there was a guy/ gal/ whomever/ of "national recognition or importance" that had either taken the class, or was hanging out with twi (in any shape or form), You can bet your bottom dollar that twi Hdqtrs would let you know they were there. It happened with Hayes Gahagen (political guy from the Norrth East), several football players for the New England Patriots, etc. If ANYONE from the Airplane/ Starship/ or whatever/ was hanging around twi, they would've had the red carpet rolled out for them. AND - - - - you'd have heard them on the SNS teachings too. Folks like that are a "money ticket" for twi. Like I said earlier - - - "Big fish, in a small pond". Twi doesn't waste any opportunity that is favorable to them. I was still "in" and around in 82, and I never heard that. Not meaning to "diss" you, but it's inconceivable to me for that to be, and twi to have NOT advertised it to milk the most out of it to the "faithful" back then, which included me. :) (edited to add - - - - ) They (twi) made a HUGE deal about the music group Takit, and all the "worldly" accolades that had been accrued by some of it's members. Like I said - - - they didn't let a (money) opportunity pass them by. Personally, I think that to work at twi (in the upper echelon), the main qualification for work there, was to be able to hear a dollar bill drop on a shag carpet rug!
  6. "Jaws harp", or "Jew's Harp"?? ;)
  7. My first ROA was in '75, and my last was in '85. 11 years of having "fun" in Ohio, in August. I only went that last year in "85, because it was docvic's memorial. I never planned on attending another after that. The first few were fun, but it got more and more "legalistic" as the years passed. I didn't need that, or want it. With each passing year, I wondered why I was packing up, traveling 1,000 miles, and going to the thing anyway? I never was corps, or a "volunteer" there at ROA, so I never had "duties" there. By the time I found out they'd discontinued it, it was a "thing of the past" for several years. I never was very good at keeping up with "present truth". WordWolf gives the most complete explanation you're going to hear on the subject.
  8. Interesting. What year (time frame) would that have been in? I never did hear that myself. And - - what leads to me to believe it's probably not true is - - - - - - - - > > > Anyone famous (in any field) was usually "paraded" out in front of the masses of "faithful". Kinda like a "photo op". "Lookee here at THIS BIG FISH we caught" sorta thing. :) I personally would rather study the "circle of fifths" with an accomplished musician, rather than the bible.

Here's John Cowan singing and picking bass, with the New Grass Revival. <meta charset="utf-8">Thomas Loy Bumgarner, on 21 March 2010 - 04:01 PM, said: love Doobie Brothers' China Grove(actually city in NC). Also love Jim Morrison and the Doors' Riders in the Storm. gee, getting a little nostalgic for late 60's and early 70's. now thinking about tune Maggie May. yikes, flashback Waysider, if you or David Miller can download this, would appreciate it. Why does my downloading things from YouTube and ITunes to Facebook, mySpace, and myYearbook does fine, but not here at GSC? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Here you go Thomas. :) This is from 1993. I just realized I know the bass picker for them! John Cowan is in this video of theirs, and is going to pick with them again while their bass player is out for a bit. I met John back when he was the bass player for the New Grass Revival. <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=04hznhL1yZQ&hl=en_US&fs=1"></param><param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=04hznhL1yZQ&hl=en_US&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=04hznhL1yZQ&hl=en_US&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
  12. It's too bad WhiteDove isn't allowed to post here anymore. He lives in the same town as Phelps. His insights on Phelps and his "ministry" were most insightful, and first hand reports/ accounts. A "window into the world of Phelps", as it were.
  13. Back in the very early 1970's, I actually met this guy. He made it a habit to come to Indiana University to "preach". He found a convenient spot (by Ballantine Hall - one of the major classroom buildings there) to stand and preach SHOUT at the students passing by, of which I occasionally was one. Lot's of students stopped to listen and laugh on their way to classes. I'll always remember one time, he was standing there bellowing out against dope/ free sex/ homosexuals/ and the world in general. This was pre-twi days for me, but I had a few minutes between classes. Going by on my bicycle, I stopped to enjoy the show. Phelps would say one thing/ a question was shouted from the "audience", and he would castigate the questioner for being an "unbeliever". The thing that makes that one time so memorable for me is, one guy walked right by Phelps and said in a LOUD voice: "HEY!!! Your fly is unzipped", and then just kept on walking away. Phelps stopped dead in his tracks. He had his right arm upraised, index finger pointed heavenward while "expounding his gospel", and they remained there as he bowed his head to check his zipper. When he realized he'd been duped, he immediately yelled at the departing "commentator ": "WHY ARE YOU LOOKING IN THAT DIRECTION!!!??? Everyone there got a good laugh from it, and we all went to our classes. We were used to PAYING for entertainment like that! Now - - - thinking about that from the past, makes me think about this (not to derail this thread, but) - - - - There's something about Bloomington Indiana that attracts folks "with a religious bent". Twi had a HUGE following there in the early 1970's. I actually took the class there in Ballantine Hall (pictured above). There were about 60 of us (1975), and it was a film class. Mine was one of many, that were run that year. Plus - - you had Phelps out there spewing his crap. These days - - - CES headquarters is located 15 miles away, and Schoenheit lives there at Camp Vision. CES Camp Vision is right there on the outskirts of town, a little more than 5 miles from Ballantine Hall. I guess there's something "in the water there" that attracts folks like these. There's certainly an abundance of them. Past and present! (edited for clarification about 1975)
  14. Socks is not "stretching the truth" (no elastic Socks here, right?) Kris was our branch leader back in Indiana, in 1976. A wonderful lady.

    What a horse's a$s.
  16. Absolutely! Welcome to any and all, regardless of thoughts/ doubts/ questions/ admonitions for GSC that you may have. You don't get answers, if you don't ask questions. If you were "in" for 10/ 20/ 30 however many years - - - you have that much CRAP that you need to unload, and that might take some time, eh? :) There's not much that can be said here, that hasn't been said before. There's freedom here to speak your mind about twi. You're welcome to be angry/ hurt/ wondering what-the-hell-happened-to-my-life/ why-didn't-I-see-this-twi-"sucker-punch" for what it was. Join the crowd. We (and i include myself) were all there at one time ourselves. "Freedom's just another word, for nothing left to lose".
  17. I thought that staircase led to the "upper room" and the last supper, where Jesus changed the water to Drambuie?
  18. Congrats for getting out, HappyGay. I was in for 10 years, and can't imagine (now) being there for 25 years. Now that I think about it, it's been 25 years (thereabouts) since I got out. You sound like some other folks I know of on the Ex-Jehovah Witness boards. Proof. Proof. Give me Proof! Few there "believe" anymore. I used to try to explain why I still believe to them, but have given up. A guy (or a gal) needs to find their own path. Carpe Diem. Asking anyone to "prove" Jesus or God is real, is like buying a lottery ticket. You have a 1 in 5,687,000 million chance of getting an answer. It's like that Harley Davidson bumper sticker you see on trucks/ cars that says: "If you have to ask, you wouldn't understand".
  19. Waylaid - - - what it means is that the "top yes men" around the "mog" usually engaged in conceal/ carry. (All nine all the time could've meant 9mm, not just the "9 manifestations"). It's easy for the "man-of-god" to be abrasive and "in your face" knowing they have "protection" right there. Does that explain the "beretta" comment? If it doesn't, ask away. Others here know more about this than I do. :)

One of my BIGGET PET PEEVES about songs, concerns my most favorite "ballad" ever written. <div><br></div><div><b>Ginseng Sullivan</b> , by Norman blake.<br><br>The words were changed (from the original), and due to an abundance of recording the "error", it became "gospel".<br><br>Norman Blake wrote this tune. I'll provide a youTube of him doing it as originally written,<br>with an explanation of the words (as he meant them to be).<br><br>It's been done by a "plethora" of bluegrass musicians. Most sing it wrong.<br>Some get "Batelle Yard", vs "Battle Yard"/ and "reverse curve" instead of "river's curve" right,<br>BUT the MOST egregious error is - - - "it's a long way FROM the Delta", instead of "To" the Delta.<br><br>I guess I'm "pickier about song lyrics", than I used to be about the Word. So sue me. <img src="http://www.greasespotcafe.com/ipb/public/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif" class="bbc_emoticon" alt=":)"><br><br>Here's the "popular" version of Ginseng Sullivan, done by Tony Rice (and friends).<br>Even this "stellar" group of musicians, get one word wrong, in the chorus. And it makes a difference.</div><div>As good as they are (instrumentally), they sing "From" and not "To" in the chorus of the song.<br><br><object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value=" name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object><br><br>The song (as written by Norman) was all about an old man who collected herbs (ginseng) to make a living that might help him to realize his dream of going back home TO the Mississippi Delta (from north Georgia), rather than be-moaning the fact that "It's a long way "FROM" the Delta. The emphasis of the song is it's "A Long Way TO the Delta. I've YET to figure out how all these great pickers got the main lyric in the chorus wrong, without Norman correcting them about it.<br><br>Anyway - - - Here's Norman with the original version complete with explanation about an old guy wanting to go home:<br><br><object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value=" name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object></div>

Tony. What a legend/ what a talent/ and what a voice. He can barely speak (as I guess you know) these days, but he continues on with that amazing guitar playing. I had the privilege of seeing him in concert several years ago with Peter Rowan. Tony could barely croak out the words "Thank You" in response to our applause. His singing was sorely missed that night, but he made up for it with his virtuosity. The guitar he's playing in that clip looks like #58957. The Martin D-28 formerly owned by Clarence White, of the Byrds. Such a sweet guitar, in the hands of yet another "better-than-average" flatpicker. Thanks for sharing that one, Mstar. :)
  23. Is he unethical? Yes. Very much so. what he proposes sux. Big time. Should you move on? Yes. Everything he does now is suspect. Find a church that will serve while "truly caring for the flock", rather than being so self-serving and self-centered with only their interests at heart. Should you confront him about this? I dunno. Perhaps. However it sounds like he might be ill disposed to listen even if you did. Do you have a local "talk radio station"? Or a local newspaper that has an opinion page? We have both here, and both are accessible to locals who have a gripe. A letter to the editor of the paper exposing this guy would be in order. If there's a local talk show, get an interview with one of the hosts there. This transcends being just "a lousy church". It's a matter for public concern. Folks in your area should know what he's up to, but I have a question? Does the rest of the church support this decision, or is he on his own here? If the entire church supports this, go at em with both barrels blazing. (wasn't that a Way Prod song way back when?) If the pastor is on his own in thinking like this, he should be confronted and held accountable by the congregation. Good luck (can I say that here?) ;) in whatever happens.
