  1. Ralph, You were the man then and you are the man now. Thank you. This is the first installment of GreaseSpot Radio that I have listened to. It ends at the time I left. So, it is extra special to me as it concerns my final days. I did not know my corps coordinator had been fired a month before I left. I first heard of this activity shortly after vpw's passing. A woman in my twig that had been involved longer than myself had been on staff at hq. She was approached by vpw and turned him down. Naturally at the time I was shocked. I cannot recall what I said to her if anything. Then I recalled a late night bless patrol shift at Emporia. At least I wasn't stuck out in the back forty this time! I was to watch the coach behind the library but not approach it. During the night a tall slender girl with long straight hair approached the coach. She was not carrying anything in her hands. She entered the coach. I never saw her come out before my shift ended. Of course this doesn't mean anything other than it made me think. What was going on that night? My hat if off to Pat for contacting people over the years. I do hope God will heal her heart also. It brings tears to my eyes to think what my corps sisters had to deal with. Along with so many other members outside of the corps household. I do hope their hearts have healed over this.
  2. 30 yrs ago I was a wow in MN. I believe the snow was beginning to melt about now. Rock 78 was our home coming.

Yeah it was like the cool hippy days then. Once I arrived at Emporia however, it became all business from then on. Too bad. No that's not it. But, that house is only the next block down. The yahoo map on the real estate site is totally wrong. I last saw the house about ten years ago and don't have a pic. I'll have to cruise down there and take one.

I grew up here and took the 'freedom' class in '76. We had some wonderful people in Bham as WOW's on the 75-76 wave! The house the branch leader lived in later became a Way Home in which I lived until going WOW in 77. This home was probably built in the 20's or 30's. Someone has since restored the house and it boasts a Bham Beautification Board Award. Several other great people came to the area following my WOW year. All of which I have fond memories of. :)
  5. I hope TX is spared from damage. We could sure use the rain in AL so I hopefully Humberto will visit us. I lived in Houston for a year (87-88) after leaving the Way in Dallas. Recently I looked on google earth for my apt on Ella Blvd north of Rankin Rd. It appears they are gone. They were very nice at the time.
  6. Six months after graduating from the 12th corps, I landed a job requiring coat & tie. I asked to borrow 1k for a wordrobe. They were willing to go 600. I recall telling the person on the phone my grandmother would be happy to loan the rest. <_<
  7. Just finished watching an Elvis concert on TV Land. I was at the Rock as well getting ready to go out WOW. What a F'n waste of time. However, the folks in the WOW family were pretty cool. Particularly my WOW brother. I also have fond memories of some of the local believers, a guy who worked theatre in town and a gal in high school. So, it wasn't a total loss. oops, almost forgot Paul Bunyan! Hello Brainerd!
  8. Most of my in-res corps nights were at Stalag Emporia with JAL, and DB. There was one corps night that did not suck. Our area had an all day work day followed by the brown bag dinner and corps night. I did not have time after work and cleaning up to make it from UH dorm to the cafeteria and back to the library. Man was I hungary! Dr. W was there and began by showing some film. While it was playing he walked out of the teacher's room and pointed out people to go to the teacher's room. He pointed at me, I mouthed the word ME? He then mouthed YES, YOU. So I got off my arse and went into the teachers room. In there were burgers and beer for us! The best part came later when LCM called him from HQ. I have no idea what the conversation was about, but Dr. W reamed him like you would not believe for the longest time! I had to hold the beer up to my face to cover the grin. Eyesopen thanks for sharing. We were dialed in from a way home when POP was read. I have often wondered what that time was like residence.
  9. Dearest Lisa, My name is Wayne. I knew your father George in Irving TX from 1984 - 86. You were a precious little thing then, the gleam in his eye. I am so sorry to hear he has passed on. It is however, comforting that he went peacefully. George was a wise, honest, hard-working man. He will be missed by many. My heart goes out to you over your loss. I lost my father a few years ago. It doesn't matter how old one is when it happens, it is not an event one can totally prepare for. You can have comfort in knowing your father was loved by many people who knew him personally, and via this board. I wish you only the best. I know you will do well. If there is anything I can do, please let me know.

    I'm Dying

:( George I am deeply saddened by the news and near speechless. I admire your courage to post this at the cafe. Last night I was reminded of our twig in Texas such a long time ago as I heard a favorite hymm, How Great Thou Art. Lisa was a baby then. I remember Alice L. baby sitting for you and Dee a few times. From the pm's we have shared, I have learned you have done an outstanding job raising Lisa and she has grown into a woman with a good head on her shoulders. What an accomplishment! I tip my hat to you sir! My thoughts are with you and your family. If there is anything I can do please let me know. Wayne

    awesome wonder

Just sitting here watching a 'corny' Christmas movie. They had a church service scene and sang one of my old-time favorites. Just thought I would share. I hope the song is special to you also. Merry Chrismas! :) O Lord my God! when I in awesome wonder Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made, I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder, Thy power throughout the universe displayed: Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee: How great Thou art, how great Thou art! Then sings my soul! my Savior God, to Thee: How great Thou art, how great Thou art! When through the woods and forest glades I wander And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees; When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur And hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze: Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee: How great Thou art, how great Thou art! Then sings my soul! my Savior God, to Thee: How great Thou art, how great Thou art! And when I think that God, His Son not sparing, Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in; That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing, He bled and died to take away my sin: Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee: How great Thou art, how great Thou art! Then sings my soul! my Savior God, to Thee: How great Thou art, how great Thou art! When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart! Then I shall bow in humble adoration, And there proclaim, my God, how great Thou art! Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee: How great Thou art, how great Thou art! Then sings my soul! my Savior God, to Thee: How great Thou art, how great Thou art!

  14. Craig is partying with Mick as we speak!
  15. I may have the buildings. Right to left Emporia Hall Kipp Student Center (Allen Gym behind) Anderson Library Kenyon Hall Weirwille Library Owens Hall Uncle Harry Church out front
  16. I repaired a corner from the copper rain gutters on Kenyon. And all that time M*ke L*g*l and me spent sanding the floor in the auditorium.
  17. What a treat! 15 or so yrs ago a former employer had them in for a sales rally in So CA. It was Lots-O-Fun!
  18. My grandfather hauled some large rocks for 600+ miles for that place. I believe this was roa 79. If I recall correctly, each state brought rocks native to the area to help build a walkway or wall. Only saw the finished product from the road.
  19. Reminds me of friday nights at a house in irving. Where 'hot bible' was taught by a loving, caring, tender branch coordinator. Well, at least his wife was. Signed, 12th_Scum

  22. Excuuuse me while I whip this out!
  23. M*dford H.? I think that was his name. He lived at the limb in Bham in the late 70s with Ell#n He**ing 4th corps, M*cky Wi**ens, and a some others, nice guy. He was originally from Evergreen.
  24. As part of the 12th corps I do not recall seeing the dog flick. I do however, remember hearing of it before in residence. Glad I missed it or forgot about it whichever the case may be. But the suicides... :(
