The difference between Wierwille and Martindale: Wierwille told you what he thought YOU wanted to hear. Martindale told you what HE wanted you to hear.

How long has man been on earth?
waysider replied to What About It's topic in Doctrinal: Exploring the Bible
There is a scientific theory that states that birds are not merely "descended" from dinosaurs, but, in fact, actually ARE dinosaurs. So, in a sense, if this theory proves to be true, you could say that man has and continues to walk amongst the dinosaurs. -
Wierwille tried variations of this same thing. It never worked for him either.

So how could VP (You know he wasn't really a doctor, don't you?) Wierwille stand in front of auditoriums filled with eager AC students and proclaim that this and that were caused by devil spirits when all the while his own lifestyle was an epitomization of what he was teaching? Simple. He didn't really believe it himself. He was like the used car salesman who tells you the car that has caught your eye was previously owned by a little old lady who only drove it to church on Sunday morning.

Perhaps his Freudian slip was showing.

Thanks, but, I think you should go again.

By the time we got to Woodstock, we were half a million strong.

I think it might be a CCR tune. ----No idea what the title is.

It was all just part of a cleverly crafted scam that was run by a dirty old drunk with a twisted, sadistic mind. (In my opinion)----- -

I think you have to hang onto the concept of "inerrancy" for the 6,000 year thing to make sense. -

I don't think that was exclusively offered to the Corps as I remember taking it and I wasn't WC. It also had materials from "Tremendous" Jones and Og Mandino, if I remember correctly. "If I ACT excited, I'll BE excited!!"

VP (You know he wasn't really a doctor, don't you?) Wierwille wanted them to HAVE it.He just didn't want them to USE it. I learned how to sprout Mung Beans and make my own salad dressing. :( -

Well, you wouldn't want them recruiting hobnobbing with the common folk, would you? -

We can't wait that long. Post something NOW! -
Well, it got me to sign The Green Card, though, in my case, it was a platonic relationship. Whole 'nother story, I guess.

I dunno. It seems like having "more that you could ever ask or think" would somehow violate the "needs and wants parallel" concept. Oh, they'll be "checking" that, too, if you fail to make your payments on time. -

Good point. It begs the question: Does anyone "need" to live ABUNDANTLY? Seems like the genuine "need" for most people would be to live ADEQUATELY. -

I wasn't trying to be facetious with that photo. It accompanied an article at THIS link that briefly examines the misconception of cult members being zombie-like. To read the full article, click on The Myth of "The Zombie Kool Aid Death Cult" in the upper right-hand corner
