"After graduating he was invited to study at Oxford University, in England, but would complete his doctorate sometime later under Dr. H. Ellis Lininger, a well-known homiletician, at the Pikes Peak Bible Seminary and Burton College in Manitou Springs, Colorado." Based on the information I've seen online, this institution appears to be a bogus degree mill, as well.

Number in Scripture was heavily promoted as extra reading in The Way. I found it to be a "wonder cure" for insomnia.

So, if I am to understand this correctly, it's not enough to have word of knowledge, word of wisdom and discerning of spirits. One must also operate this special sort of "turbo charged" believing (that is not synonymous with the "law" of believing.) in order to bring to pass the impossible on command. And, it is a "special" kind of renewed mind.

I think the only "mathematical exactness" Wierwille was ever truly concerned about involved a different kind of book------his bank ledger.

AC Syllabus-----page 26 The manifestation of Believing is your operation of the God-given ability whereby you may believe to bring to pass the impossible at your command according to what God has revealed to you by Word of Knowledge, Word of Wisdom and Discerning of Spirits. It also inspires believing in others. It is special renewed mind believing according to WOK, WOW and DOS.----- Is this included in the "other 6"? Just asking.

New front page article: Nostalgia for TWI Research Raises Questions

"Study to show yourself approved------workmen------rightly dividing-----" My, how we lauded the importance of that verse to the sky, never stopping to consider that what TWI was teaching us about that verse was, in fact, mistranslated, misinterpreted and misrepresented. Yeah, we scoffed at other denominations who were doing "good works". We were too spiritual to do "good works" because salvation comes by grace and not by "works". And, the whole time we were oblivious to the reality that we were actually obsessed with "working" the word. How did we show ourselves approved before God? Well, we "worked", of course. I'd call it ironic, but, I think that may be too soft a description. -

"It's everywhere, Amen, Bow Wow." Yes, that's letting the firefly loose. -
I met a woman recently of Middle Eastern ethnicity. She, indeed, had tattoos on the entirety of both her palms. They were very intricate. At first glance, I thought she had some sort of medical condition. (I didn't want to let my eyes linger too long.) I suspect there was some spiritual relevance to them. I was not in a situation where I could ask questions. I have no idea what expectations she had for their longevity. I immediately, upon realizing that what I was seeing was tattoos, thought of that VPW interpretation of tattooed palms. She was a rather frail lady, not someone you would think of as enduring excruciating pain.

The problem with this statement is that it assumes Christianity to be the only vehicle of communion with God. Can you learn the secrets of the firefly by holding it captive in a jar? -

When I read that, I thought Taz was saying VP expected entirely too much from his followers. Yeah, I know, "the closest pronoun" and all that stuff. But, that's how I interpreted it, none the less. I guess we'll have to wait for Taz to clarify. -
Ahhh 'cmon. You had to know I would post , no?

Just for the record. I never said Paul lied or that he was a con-man or perverse in a manner that resembles VPW's depravity. I said "what if." What I alluded to is that we accept his credibility based on a criteria that he, himself, established. That doesn't necessarily make him a liar or a con-man or anything else. It certainly dilutes the value of his credibility, though. -
Well, it is, after all, just a cult. Know what I mean?

Yes. There's always an element of credibility. Paul said we should all speak in tongues so we all spoke in tongues. Why? Because we trusted his perceived credibility. And why have we concluded Paul was a credible source? Because we have accepted that "holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit"/ "All scripture is God-breathed"/ "The epistle were written directly to us as The Church of God"/ etc. And who was it who introduced us to Paul's criteria for scripture valuation? Well, what do you know? It was Paul. Of course, he must have been credible because the epistles depict him as a "holy man of God" who spoke to "The Church of God". -

"You lived it"??? What does that mean? We didn't live it. We only pretended to live it. There is nothing about the way we tried to mimic "life in the first century church" that even remotely resembles the original. Not the culture, not the structure, not the daily routines. Nothing. I spent multiple years in a program that was supposed to replicate the way "believers" lived in the first century. You know what? It was really just an exercise in communal living. That's all it was. A commune with a religious twist. -
I think that class was like the Emperor's New Clothes. People came out of it with a "WTF?" look on their faces but didn't dare reveal their true evaluation with each other for fear they would be thought of as "spiritual lacking".
