3. Just so you know, I put the quotation marks around it to indicate those are not my words.
4. Glad you stumbled in, Leafy. I always enjoy your posts.
5. You just had to ask, didn't you? The "believing against someone" idea comes from page 10 of the AC syllabus ©1971 ************************************************ KEYS TO WALKING BY THE SPIRIT 9. It may be essential to put unbelievers out of the room. Matthew 9:23-25 **************************************************** As far as believing "for someone", I think you were allowed to believe "for" someone if they were dead, like Lazarus, or mentally incapable of believing for themselves. I don't recall where that one was taught but I'm thinking it's in the collaterals. Just for fun, though, here's a gem from page 17. (15) Devils believe. James 2:19 So, I guess, not only do you have to believe for yourself, you also have to OUT-BELIEVE the devils who are believing against you in some kind of spiritual believing show-down.
6. They easily dismiss such scriptures by virtue of the phony dispensationalism to which they subscribe. In other words, "It ain't written to us folks who are living in the Grace Administration."
7. "Collective believing" Yes, how well I remember that line of B.S. In Fellow Laborers, we were scolded for our lack of "collective believing", told that we (FLO) were the reason Word Over The World wasn't happening. It just had to be because of our *negative* collective believing because we were in "the birthplace of the ministry" (Ohio). Yeah, I suppose God was sitting there on His throne, looking at maps of the U.S.A. and noticed that our meaningless little program was being conducted within some arbitrary lines on the map, otherwise known as state borders. Geeze! If He would have only given us some revelation, maybe we could have moved across the state line into Indiana or something. Then "The Word" would have prevailed and we'd all be living happily ever after instead of posting on GSC.
8. And it's not just the actual affairs. It's the very idea that a guy could do this 17 times and still not have a clue he was doing something wrong. And he wants to be someone who gives spiritual guidance???? Maybe it was a case of "don't ask (myself), don't tell (myself)."
9. "Most forums don't like users bumping threads." I don't think you need to worry about that here. We bump threads on a routine basis.
10. Baby hair with a woman's eyes I can feel you're watching in the night All alone with me and we're waiting for the sunlight When I feel cold, you warm me And when I feel I can't go on, you come and hold me It's you... And me forever
11. Do you want to know about the growth? I'm always interested in growth, in many areas of my life. Understanding of Biblical nuances and spiritual mysteries is not one of them, thank you very much. And do you still seek the Truth but perhaps just not through The Ministry? Seeking "The Truth" is like trying to find that place in the distance where the railroad tracks meet. Be happy where you are and enjoy the space you occupy. ************************************ I highly recommend this audio: http://www.greasespotcafe.com/gsradio/audio/gsradio-2008-06-11-80766.mp3
12. Hey there, Heckler Glad you stumbled in. That's how I found this place, too, only I was looking for a copy of PFAL at the time. I usually recommend starting on the front page and reading some of the articles, editorials and such to get up to speed with what The Way is/was really all about. Have a cup-o-joe on me
13. Start Wearing Purple <param name="movie" value=" name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344">
14. Although I personally left The Way before it became prevalent, I have read here that, in later years, there was a complex protocol surrounding gift giving and gift receiving. The essence of the protocol was that gift giving can be used as a tool of entitlement and control. There are plenty of examples cited here on various threads. On the other hand, during the years of my involvement, it was taught that you should never deny someone the opportunity to give to you because it would subsequently deny them the opportunity to "get blessed" through reciprocal receiving. In other words, you would be cutting them off from a chance to practice "giving and receiving". This was formally taught in twig leader meetings as the reason there was always an offering made available at every meeting. If you, as a twig leader, failed to take up an offering, you would be chastised. Looking back, of course, it was all about rationalization. In addition, Wierwille taught the aforementioned concept that, once you receive a gift, you can do whatever you want with it. This was used in the PFAL class to guilt people into "manifesting" and, also, to elicit more commitment from followers. Wierwille, of course, used it as a means of justifying his use of ministry funds to fuel his materialistic lifestyle. My conclusion is that, if you wanted to learn something about the essence of gift giving, The Way was not a very good place to learn it
15. Probably his rapidly increasing level of debauchery.
16. Speaking only for myself here: I think sometimes people can give a false impression of being detached if they have a tendency to explain things in too much detail. It's something I personally struggle with constantly when I'm dealing with customers. I have to keep telling myself, "Keep it simple. Keep it simple-----"
17. How about this one? If you feel like leaving You know you can go But why don't you stay until tomorrow? If you want to be free All you've got to do is say so
18. Gee, you mean it doesn't fit like a hand in a glove? I'm shocked! Thoroughly Throughly shocked!
19. Sometimes "sitting on the fence" can offer the best seat in the house.
20. It's much easier to understand the reasoning behind this thinking when you finally accept that the whole thing was simply a veiled, business driven MLM scheme designed to generate profits for VPW.
