  1. The salt covenant was a real big deal for me when I got divorced because I felt, at the time, like I had broken a promise to God.
  2. Ok---Now picture yourself living in a commune with about 50 other people, half are men, half are women. You can't marry an "unbeliever" and you can't date outside the commune. (There were exceptions made for people who married Corps.) And there was a "no sex" policy for singles. That's a pretty darn funky situation to find yourself in at 25 years old.
  3. Yes, the "being on the down low" expression came to mind as I was posting. Maybe I should have used a less ambiguous cliche.
  4. Wierwille had direct ties to a white supremacy political group called Liberty Lobby (now defunct). Liberty Lobby evolved into The Populist Party. When Populist Party member, Bob Richards, became a U.S. presidential candidate, he came to speak to the Way Corps. Another notable, high ranking member of The Populist Party is the former Grand Wizard of The Ku Klux Klan (KKK), David Duke. Wierwille frequently used information he gleaned from Liberty Lobby propaganda, such as The Spotlight, to formulate conspiracy theories and pass them on to Way members under the guise of Divine Revelation. Wierwille kept all this well hidden from the general populace of The Way. Personally, this all came as a tremendous shock to me when I discovered it here at GSC. One thing that especially appealed to me when I became involved with The Way was that the organization seemed to be promoting a message that was in favor of racial and ethnic equality. I dare say that the vast majority of other members I knew at the time held the same false assumption. One thing that really aggravates me to a large degree is knowing that some of my well intentioned abundant sharing may have been diverted to these organizations Personally, I had no idea about his ties until I found out here on GSC.
  5. Can't remember who, but I seem to recall one of our posters has personal ties to someone involved in the logistics of bringing the bodies home.
  6. I doubt we'll ever know. Don't hold your breath while you wait for our young friend to give us that insight.
  7. My intentions in starting this thread really have nothing to do with the issue of homosexuality. My intent is to show that wierwille could just pull things out of his butt and convince us that he knew the "real" insider low down. Plus, it further demonstrates his genuine lack of credibility. If he couldn't even get the basic facts of biology straight, how in the world could he have known intricate spiritual truths?
  8. That's how I see it, too. Ironic, though, he seemed to have forgotten that only four years prior (1976) he tried and succeeded to sell us on the idea that the gvt. was "out to get" The Way.
  9. Yeah, but I can see where that might escape your notice if you were hiding out in the woods so as to avoid doing chores.
  10. "You won't find same sex arrangements among animals" (Heavily paraphrased.) http://www.columbusdispatch.com/live/content/science/stories/2009/08/09/sci_samesex.ART_ART_08-09-09_G3_FREMHLP.html?sid=101
  11. Hmmmmm--- Model T's were made from 1909-1927. Maserati made its debut in 1926. thinking---thinking---
  12. Maybe not, but they made very clear who you were NOT supposed to marry.----Kinda limited the field.
  13. Does it have anything to do with The Dixie Highway?
  14. Speaking only for myself, I can tell you that does not describe my involvement at all.
  15. FLO was a two year, in-res. program that was the brain child of E.B^rt*n, the first Ohio limb leader. It ran on the TWI year, not the calender year. (ex.: August,1974-August,1976 =FLO3) We (the 50 or so FLO) lived communal style in an off-site apartment complex about a half hour away from limb HQ. The program, itself, was based at the limb HQ in rural Ohio, about an hour and a half drive from Int. HQ.. The property (5 or 6 acres?) had an old "party/banquet house" that we called the BRC. This is where we had our FLO meetings, held classes and ate dinner each night as a group. There was also a farm house that served as home to the limb leader and family. In addition, we worked a rather large "garden" on the back potion of the property. This served to provide the 49 or 50 of us with quite a bit of our fresh food supply. B^rt*n was in charge during FLO1, FLO2 and the first year of FLO3 (1974). There was also a coordinator for the men and a coordinator for the women who were chosen from amongst our ranks. It was E.B. who recruited me with the concept of spending two years of study in the Book of Acts with a view toward returning to our home areas as better prepared leaders. In 1975, the last year of FLO3/first year of FLO4, E.B. went back to Int. HQ and was replaced by H@w!e Y, who was called back to Int. HQ after one year. At the end of that year (all years started in August, right after The Rock)H.Y. was replaced by J!m M!ln3 who was in charge of the last year of FLO4 and both years of FLO5. (FLO4=8/1975-8/1977//FLO5=8/1976-8/1978) After that, I think Pat and Donna S. became limb leaders but I am not certain of that. Things got especially "intense" during the last year of FLO4 and during FLO5. Is that enough information to answer the question? edit: There was a guy who posted here a couple years ago (LNM) who said he was FLO1. He said it was a one year commitment and more like a Way Home, which is an entirely different animal.
  16. Well, Garth, I believe the point she was making was that, when you joined, you were unaware of its true nature.

    "Security"

Think about how close it is to the infamous "Hanger 18" at WPAFB. In fact, here is a little known recording of the original Vesper Chimes Hour that was recently unearthed in The Way Woods.
  18. Almost forgot. Every Wednesday night was a scream-fest and humiliation session in Fellow Laborers. We were never "good enough" to please the MOG.
  19. We had a weekend long "break you" session, with guards at the doors, in FLO. FLO was a "leadership" training program that was loosely fashioned after the first couple years of Way Corpse. ( 2 year in-res., food co-op, communal living arrangements, "run to the tree and back", 5:30 AM fellowship, night twigs, work assignments, isolationism, blah, blah, blah, blah.) It was out in the middle of Podunkville. I never heard the session given a name, but the accounts I have read describing Momentus sound strikingly similar. To say we were yelled and screamed at would be a gross understatement. At one point I was asked to stand in front and answer a rather vague question. I prefaced my response with, "I think---". I never got to give my actually response because the person doing the interrogation immediately proceeded to verbally rip me to shreds and humiliate me in front of 50 other people. No one got missed that weekend. One person "snapped" and was never the same again for the duration of the program. Is that the kind of stuff you're talking about?
  20. DISCLAIMER The following is second hand information, conveyed to me, personally, in 1979, by the individual involved. 1979 (during "the wierwille administration") A friend of mine who had recently graduated from a Way leadership training program returned to his hometown to resume his life. He was quite disillusioned with some discrepancies that he had seen and some that had been brought to his attention. Mind you, now, this was 1979, pre internet times, so he obviously knew even less than the average GSC frequenter who has been here awhile. He began to speak out publicly against The Way. Within days, literally, an armed goon squad appeared at his door, hundreds of miles from HQ, and made it very clear to him he could suffer dire consequences if he didn't stop immediately. They did not sugar coat it with "spiritual" talk of the hedge of protection. When he told me, I was flabbergasted. I tried to bounce the information off several people, both "rank and file" and "leadership". I suppose you can imagine the sort of reception and rationalization that ensued. Who is to say what might have happened if that incident had escalated? ****************************** "Wierwille manipulated an "army" to jump at his command. Don't ask questions, don't ask how high to jump.........just jump. Thaaaaaat's riiiiiight." ****************************** Believe it if you want to, or dismiss it completely. Makes no difference to me.
  21. I think we may have come frightfully closer to similar outcomes than many people care to admit to themselves.
